Reading + Writing Update!

Happy Sunday!

I ended up finishing three whole books this week. Yes, three! One was via audiobook but the others were ones I was super excited for and ended up flying through. This past week I read Save the Date by Morgan Matson, a fun, summer contemporary following our main character Charlie whose sister is getting married at their house before they sell it, and Charlie is determined to make it the best weekend since all their siblings under the same roof for once. I loved Save the Date, especially since it focused on the family aspect of the story more then the love interest, and that was really refreshing. I gave Save the Date a 4/5 stars so if you love contemporaries I would definitely give this one a read.

I also read, well listened to, Matched by Ally Condie. For this book I have very mixed emotions because I feel like I enjoyed it a lot more because it was fun to listen to and really well put together, however the story itself was pretty unoriginal and the relationships between characters felt flat for me. However, I did enjoy my time listening to it and I am sure thirteen year old Zoe would have loved it, but since it reminded me of literally every other dystopian ever, it was just okay. This is a dystopian story that takes place in a very strict society where at the age of seventeen, you get Matched with the most suitable partner for you. The entire story for me was pretty predictable and I don’t really have plans to continue on with the trilogy but who knows. It gets a 3/5 stars for me!

The last book I read this week was The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater, the fourth and final book in The Raven Cycle and wow, the feelings were REAL. Ugh, it was so fantastic and overall I really, really adored this series and am looking forward to a re-read in the future! This book was hard for me to rate, but I think I will settle on a 4.5/5 stars and also 4.5/5 for the series overall. I got lots read this week, but n ext week is the BookTubeAThon so expect some daily reading updates next week and lots, and lots of reading!

As for writing, I did not hit my 15k goal this week and ugh, I am kind of mad at myself but I fell out of my routine this past week and have desperately been trying to get back into it. I did manage to write around 10k so it wasn’t a total fail whatsoever, but I do really want to get this draft done by my birthday (August 16) and I am nowhere near done. Last week, I finished writing a short story for this contest but now that I am done, I am going to jump right into a brand new short story! The other day I went to the coffee shop and came up with three brand new short story ideas, or possibly future novel projects as well, and ugh, I am so excited to write them! Anyways, next week will be another reading and writing heavy week, not only because it is another readathon and I am trying to get a draft done, but because the end of summer is coming. Fast. And I need to get everything done before my time is up!

That is all for my reading and writing update, and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post and also all my social media accounts linked down below 🙂
