Reading + Writing Update!

This week was definitely a slower week, reading, writing, and really everything wise. It was a long and hard week and I can easily say I am happy it is over. However, I obviously got some reading and writing done so here is my quick update!

to-all-the-boys-ive-loved-before

Earlier this week I decided I needed a break from fantasy and was in desperate need of a fun, light hearted contemporary read. So, like always, I turned to To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han! No surprise there. I am actually about 30 pages away from finishing so I might even be done by the time this goes up…if that is the case, I will probably pick up American Panda by Gloria Chao next because who actually sticks to their TBR? Not me, that’s for sure. Like I said, contemporaries just sound really appealing right now so why not?

As for writing, I am still ahead! Although, not as much. I am about a day or two ahead because I ended up taking another day off. Like I said, it was a hard week but I am hoping to get back into the swing of things this coming week. If all goes as plan, and if I manage to push through the current scene I am writing which is a) unplanned and b) difficult, I should reach my 40,000 word goal by Wednesday. But does the writing stop there? Of course not! That puts me at maybe halfway through draft one so there is still a long road ahead. Anyways, enough rambling! Here is my daily word counts from the past week:

Sunday: 1,551

Monday: 2,770

Tuesday: 1,732

Wednesday: 0

Thursday: 1,281

Friday: 0

Saturday: 2,490

Weekly Word Count: 7,642 words

That is all for this reading and writing update and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out the blog posts linked below, as well as my social media accounts. I have been super active on Instagram and Twitter so definitely follow those 🙂

Reading + Writing Update!

Another week gone so it is time for another update! I am happy with what I managed to get done this week because recently I got obsessed with The Greatest Showman because not only is the movie beautiful, but the music…I am obsessed. If you haven’t watched it then drop everything right now and go do that, it will change your life. I wish I could write to the soundtrack but I can’t help but sing along every time it comes on thus I would never get anything done.

I finished another book! Three already this month which is a record compared to the last few months, and I think I will reward myself for jumping into another book, which is The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson, finally! I also plan on listening to the audiobook for Sapphire Blue by Kersin Gier, the second book in this time travelling trilogy. I really loved the audiobook for the first book, and am excited to revisit the books via audiobook. Other than that, I am hoping to finish The Girl of Fire and Thorns by the end of this coming week, because to stay on top of my reading goal I need to read three more books by the end of April. I can do that right? Even with Camp NaNoWriMo and homework and life? *nervous laughter*

As for writing, I am SUPER happy with my results. Most days I have been able to meet my goal…well actually not really but luckily the days I did pass my goal, I ended up writing 2-3000 words so I am still very ahead. Luckily I haven’t lost motivation for my WIP, but I do have a lot of ideas on what I will fix and change in the second draft because currently, I am just word vomiting whatever comes to mind onto this word doc. I also plan on writing a short story this weekend for the NaNoWriMo Young Writers Writing Contest because why not? It has a maximum word count of 300 words so it shouldn’t take too much time. Here are my word counts from last Sunday to this Saturday:

Sunday: 1524 words

Monday: 946 words

Tuesday: 2797 words

Wednesday: 3112 words

Thursday: 734 words

Friday: 1062 words

Saturday: 2136 words

Total: 22,373/40,000 words

That is all for this update and I hope you enjoyed. Good luck with your own reading and writing journeys, and don’t forget to check out the blog posts linked below! Also, I finally made writing accounts on Instagram and Tumblr so give me a follow so I can follow you back 🙂

Reading + Writing Update!

This week has been incredibly productive reading and writing wise so I am especially excited to share my progress with you all today!

It is currently April 8th and I have already finished two books already this month! For me, that is crazy because for the last month or two, two books is all I have managed to get done. It also means I am only reading one book instead of four, which is also a relief. Last night I finished The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and overall I enjoyed it, but I absolutely flew through those last one hundred pages because it was so good! Highly recommend. Now I will be finishing off Labyrinth Lost which I have about one hundred pages left of, and then diving head first into The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson, a book that has been on my TBR since what feels like the beginning of time.

I cannot believe the first week of Camp NaNoWriMo is done. It went by so fast and I am incredibly proud of how much I managed to get done, all on top of also writing a short story for a literary magazine. My daily word goal to achieve 40,000 words by the end of the month is 1,334 words, and the days I did write, I easily achieved that. My average was actually about 2,000 words a day which was great, because the words just kept flowing! However, I wrote absolutely nothing on Thursday and Friday because a friend from out of town came, but I managed to catch up on Saturday! I will leave my daily word counts below though just to see how well I did. Since I took two whole days off I am going to try and not do that again because catching up was a little stressful, especially this specific weekend when I have to study for a chemistry midterm and have about a billion assignments due…but it was nice to see I could actually do it.

Day 1: 2,086 words

Day 2: 2,216 words

Day 3: 1,344 words

Day 4: 2,000 words

Day 5: 0 words

Day 6: 0 words

Day 7: 2,389 words

Weekly Total: 10,035 words

That is all for my reading and writing update and I hope you enjoyed! What books did you just finish? How is your Camp NaNoWriMo going? Let me know in the comments below! Also, don’t forget to check out my last blog post and my Camp NaNoWriMo ones linked down below.

Reading + Writing Update!

This is my second time writing this because airport wifi is terrible and didn’t want to save anything I had written.

Anyways, I wanted to say sorry for falling off the face of the blogging world for the past week. I was on vacation and while I originally planned to upload during my time away (I even pre-wrote a few for the first few days I was on vacation in California), I ended up not writing anymore and not having any inspiration either for posts either. However, it was a nice creative break especially since April is going to be a month filled to the brim with writing and reading related things! So since I am on my way home and will be back tonight which is Saturday although when you see this it will be Sunday…anyways expect a normal upload schedule for next week!

I didn’t get as much reading done as I originally hoped, but I did manage to get some done while traveling. Going into this vacation, my original plans were to finish Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova and read about 100 pages of The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I did not accomplish any of that. I did get to about 150-something in Labyrinth Lost which means I am halfway through the book and still got a good chunk to go. The book started off really strong and I was interested and excited, but towards the middle things became a little confusing for me and the pace kind of just lulled. I do plan on finishing it though and I am really hoping it will pull through for the last half! As for The Book Thief, I think I only read about 50 pages meaning I still have 150 pages left to go, and all of that has to be read by Wednesday! Anyways, I also started reading an unexpected book that I picked up because I happened to be in the right city when a certain author was having a book signing for her new book…and that book is I Have Lost My Way by Gayle Forman! I just happened to be in San Diego the right day, and I was so excited to see her in person and listen to her not only talk about her new book, but also the writing struggles she had gone through in her career. I have read a few of Gayle Forman’s other books, such as If I Stay, Where She Went, One Day, and One Year, so I was really happy to meet an author that I thought so highly of. It was a lot of fun and was actually my first book signing! I would definitely recommend keeping an eye open at your local bookstores for events like these because it was worth it.

Wow, that was a long reading update so get ready for a probably lengthy writing update too! As this post is coming out, it is Sunday, April 1st, AKA Camp NaNoWriMo day 1! I have been viciously planning and researching and tying up all the loose ends of my outline this past week, and only just now am I (kind of) ready to write. I have left my outline loose on purpose because I have realized over the years I work better with less structure so I don’t lose inspiration and momentum throughout writing. If you too are just finishing your outline, or looking for some inspiration to give you that final push then check out my Camp NaNo prep posts which will be linked down below. Overall I was really proud with all the work I got done on my outline during my vacation, and it just proves to myself how passionate I really am about this project and now I just cannot wait to dive into this new world! Another writing project I want to start on is this really short story idea I have that was inspired by a literary magazine’s current submission prompt, so fingers crossed I can quickly pump out that story for April 6th which is the deadline! Hopefully I am not putting too much on my plate but I am sure I can get most of it done…right?

Anyways, that was my really long reading and writing update and I hope you enjoyed! Keep an eye out for my upcoming blog posts this Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday because I will be returning to my regular posting after my unexpected hiatus. Reading + Writing Update!

I finally finished rereading the first 3 books in the Shatter Me series and wow, it took me a while. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore every book in the series and had such a good time revisiting this world but I was just so busy and exhausted by the end of the day that I only read 30-50 pages a night, maybe not even. Hopefully I can pick up the pace because I need to finish the last 150 pages of The Book Thief by April 4 and also finally finish listening to The Son of Neptune audiobook! So many books so little time.

This week was so unproductive that it physically hurts me…but at the same time it is 100% okay because I spent the time catching up with friends I haven’t seen in a while. It was a blast but now that the week is mostly over and they have left, I am ready to jump back into outlining my novel and writing because Camp NaNoWriMo is only 13 days away…wow. I need to pick up the pace because not only do we only have 13 days left, but I also leave for holidays in 4 days and who knows how much I’ll get done while I’m away. I also have a few short stories I wanted to get done this coming week, so fingers crossed I am not putting too much on myself and will be able to get it all done!

That is all for this blog post and I just want to quickly apologize for not posting on Friday! I was barely at home Wednesday-Saturday and hadn’t even opened up my laptop until last night. Anyways, expect a post tomorrow as well as my normal days (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) and I hope you enjoy! Reading + Writing Update!

Happy Sunday!

I cannot believe were are already eleven days into March…like this month will be over before we know it which means I need to pick up the pace! This week I did manage to finish Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi, and am still making progress with the three other books I am reading. I am currently about two hundred and fifty pages into The Book Thief, over eight hours into The Son of Neptune audiobook, and one hundred pages into Ignite Me Tahereh Mafi. I am so glad that I am loving my reads, but I’m just hoping I can finish some of them soon because there are so many books I want to dive head first into like The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson and More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera!

Luckily I have also been pretty productive writing wise. Thanks to my handy writing bullet journal, I can say I wrote around 2000 words this week which now that I think about it, isn’t actually that great. Still, I was having a really tough week so I am surprised that I found the time to get in a few words. Hopefully next week will be better because lately I have been feeling on and off when it comes to motivation. Either I am bouncing off the walls or barely have enough energy to pull out my computer and it is getting really annoying. Anyways, enough with my whining and complaining, I just hope that I can get a few more thousand words in next week!

Reading + Writing Update

I really wanted to get some more reading in this weekend, but I did manage to finish Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi, the first book in the Shatter Me trilogy. Now I am in the middle of three books and there is still several hours left in the day so I am hoping I can get further into at least one of them. I’m reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi, and The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan which so far, are all fantastic books. I’m listening to The Son of Neptune on audiobook and loving it, so I am hoping I can get through a bit more today!

Lately my brain has been extremely scattered and I have no idea why. I don’t think I’ve written in two days, and it makes me feel really unproductive. Hopefully this is something that will only last another day or two at the most because I really want to get some more outlining done as well as some more words in. It just feels like my brain has been rearranged into patterns I don’t understand yet, but why? I have no idea!

Reading + Writing Update!

Another Sunday has come which means I have to write another reading and writing update. Luckily I actually managed to accomplish some things this week that I am really excited share them with you!

So this past week I was in the middle of reading three books, but I am happy to say that I finished one. The book I managed to finish was The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon, a contemporary following two characters, Daniel and Natasha, who meet one day and the story follows their relationship as it grows over the course of several hours. I had pretty high hopes going into this book because I love contemporaries, and also I have heard really good things about it. I did end up enjoying it, but it wasn’t amazing or anything and I don’t think I would re read it, but it definitely satisfied my contemporary crave for a few days. Apart from finishing that book, I am also about two hundred pages into Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi and one hundred into The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. My goal is to finish Shatter Me by the end of today or tomorrow, but as for The Book Thief I am reading it for my English class so I won’t finish that until the beginning of April.

For once I feel like I was more productive writing wise than reading wise, and let me tell you, that doesn’t happen often. I didn’t keep track of how much I wrote exactly, but I do know it was somewhere between three and four thousand words. I don’t remember the last time I wrote that many words, but I know for a fact that I will have more weeks from now on looking like that as I am taking my writing more seriously. I am paying for writing that many words in a short period of time though, because now the muscles in my shoulders and upper back are completely screwed. Even writing this now they are hurting and tightening, which means this may be the last thing I write for today. Hopefully it gets better soon because I have some contest deadlines I really want to make.

Reading + Writing Update!

Last night I finally finished The Lost Hero audiobook by Rick Riordan and while I can say it was definitely worth revisiting in audiobook format and that I had a blast, it was a very long one being about sixteen hours. I finished it though, which means I can start a new audiobook! I think I will be starting the next book in the series, The Son of Neptune, and I am really excited because it has been forever since I picked up this one. Another book I am currently working my way through is Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi! The new addition to the Shatter Me series, Restore Me, is coming out in only a matter of weeks and I am so, so excited. Saying that though, it has been over a year since I read these books so I think it is time for a re read before cracking open the new one. I do remember loving these books though so I am also extremely pumped to visit the characters and world again. Lastly, I will be starting a third book because in my English class we are doing independent novel studies. I am having some trouble choosing between The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson. Currently I am in the fantasy mood so I will probably end up picking up the Rae Carson book but we will see!

As for writing…well I am at a bit of a crossroads. I really like my novel idea but I am in the middle of outlining and I just have no idea how to carry the story on into the middle and then the end. I have an idea on how I want to end it, but it just isn’t something that makes me excited. I have been stepping away and thinking about it for the past few days but I think I have come to the conclusion that I need to rework my original idea. Today is going to be devoted to figuring out what the next step in my outline is, whether it is to fix a few things to make it flow or to scrap the whole thing…wish me luck!

Reading + Writing Update!

Happy Sunday!

I am currently in the middle of…three books, but honestly, I am almost done two of them. There’s The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan which I am listening to on audiobook and have just over four hours left of, and as I am writing this it is Friday afternoon (I will be offline over the weekend!) so who knows, maybe I will finish it by the time Sunday rolls around. This is a re read so obviously I am enjoying it so I can’t say more than it is as great as I remember! The second book I am working through is Just Listen by Sarah Dessen and I am a good 213 pages into it, meaning I only have about 150 or so to go. Again, another re read which I am really enjoying, however it has been years since I read this book and there is absolutely NO diversity in this book. It is just filled with straight, white people and it just isn’t very realistic. I find it pulling me out of the story often to question that, but still, it is a fun read. Lastly, I have started reading the anthology Meet Cute by a variety of authors. I am only two out of who knows how many stories, and its okay so far. I understand that this is an anthology so the stories can only be so many pages, but the incredibly short length really takes away from the story and I can’t connect to the characters or the stories at all. However, if you are just looking for a light hearted book for Valentines Day or whenever, maybe pick this up!

When it comes to writing I have done a bit, but mostly I have been outlining for future stories. I think I wrote around three thousand words at the beginning of the week, but as I said earlier the rest has just been outlining. I have also been doing some research on Aztec mythology and such, thinking about whether I want to incorporate it in a future story idea I have. I’ve been listening to podcasts and googling things, and their mythology is really interesting! Even if I don’t end up weaving any of it into my story, it is still fascinating to learn about.
