Reading + Writing Update!

Happy Sunday!

Since I didn’t update you all last week, I have a lot to update you all. Long story short, I am currently reading six books. Yeah, six. How did this happen you might ask? Well, I just kept picking up and starting books I wanted to read (some re-reads), and here I am. I am just going to roll with it though and focus on two or three at a time (still a lot, but some of these are books I have to read for school!) until I get through them all…hopefully by the end of October. Anyways, because I have so many books that I am currently reading, I am not going to write a paragraph because it would be MASSIVE. Instead, I will do a quick, to the point update.

Books Finished:

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia – Finished on October 6th – LOVED re-reading it 5/5 stars

Currently Reading:

Traplines by Eden Robinson – Progress: 70/215 pages (none since the last update)

City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare (audiobook) – 6ish/12 hours (4 more hours since the last update) – Still enjoying my re-read of this series!

Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden – 191/384 pages (started it on Oct 5th) – Not exactly my cup of tea but I have to read it for school so I am getting through it…slowly

Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi – 80/394 pages (started it on Oct 8th) – Enjoying it a lot so far, especially its atmosphere (college, coffee shops, and romance!)

The Light Between Worlds by Laura E. Weymouth – 50/325 pages (started it on Oct 10th) – Re-reading this hauntingly beautiful story for my review of it since it is getting released to the world this month on Oct 23rd!

Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier (audiobook) – 1.5/8.5 hours (started this today!) – I really wanted to re-read this trilogy during the fall and thought it would be smarter to re-visit them via audiobook. Loving it of course!

Okay, that was a lot easier than writing out a monstrous paragraph. Anyways, as for writing, I haven’t done too, too much. I have done a few hours of NaNoWriMo prep since it is right around the corner though. I have re-outlined the first act (almost), some of the magic system, and characters as well. I still need to finish re-outlining the second and third as well as a few more characters, but other than that I think I will be set for November! This weekend I actually did do a little bit of writing. I am re-vamping a short story I wrote almost a year ago for my writing portfolio, and have written about 700 new words of it so far. Hopefully, I will finish my first draft of re-writes for it this week, but I am not rushing it.

That is all for my reading and writing update, and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post, as well as my social media accounts all linked below. Thanks 🙂

Reading + Writing Update

Helloooo readers, writers, people of the blogging-verse. Today, I am back with my weekly reading and writing update so let’s just get into it! Here is everything I managed to accomplish this week and I am pretty proud with it all.

While I didn’t finish any books this week, I did make some progress in the books I started. I am about 2 hours into listening to the audiobook for City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare, and so far I am enjoying that. There are about 10 more hours of audiobook left I think so I still got a bit more to get through, but I have no doubt that I will finish it sometime this coming week. I also started reading Traplines by Eden Robinson, a book of 4 short stories, for my writing class. I am on the second story and am really enjoying it so far! My goal is to read the last two stories by Wednesday and then write my little write up I have to hand in with it by the end of the week. I love reading short story books because instead of trying to read a certain amount of pages, I just read a short story a day. Lastly, I decided to pick up Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia. I really wanted to get this done by the end of today, but honestly, that was not going to happen. I had too much homework to do and ended up only reading to page 150. Which is still pretty good though because that means I read around 80 pages of it this weekend! Anyways, I know I will finish it sometime this week so it’s all good.

As for writing, I have been working on rewriting and editing my first 20 pages of my WIP for just over a month now for a fellowship, and yesterday I finally submitted it! The deadline was today but I wanted to get it in a little earlier just in case, so I finished editing early yesterday and then sent it off! It felt so good because I have been working towards this deadline for months now and I finally have it done. Now I can focus on re-outlining my WIP during October so I can write draft 2.5 of it during NaNoWriMo, and also work on some short stories for my portfolio! It will also be nice to focus a little more on my homework and blog posts, and just take a step back from trying to write, write, and write. Even though I love, I still need a break sometimes.

That is all for my reading and writing update and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post as well as my social media accounts linked below. Thanks 🙂

Reading + Writing Update

FIRST OFF, before I get into this update I wanted to take a minute and ask you all to either comment on this post or head over to my Twitter and/or Instagram and give me some blog post suggestions! I really want to make content that not only I enjoy making but that you all enjoy reading so it would be really helpful if you gave me your ideas. If you have any thoughts or ideas on anything about my blog and what you want to see from me in the future, please let me know.  Thanks 🙂

For the first time since school started (for me, that was only 2 1/2 weeks ago but feels more like 2 1/2 years), I am excited to give this reading and writing update to you all because I have lots of fun reading and writing related things to update you all on!

I FINISHED TO KILL A KINGDOM BY ALEXANDRA CHRISTO. I know, it took me like 3 weeks to finish this book which is ONLY 350ish pages, and that is insane. I blame school and stress and also my tendency to procrastinate. However, I did really enjoy the story and how cut-throat and interesting all the characters were. I finished this book earlier today because I had maybe 50 pages to go, and I am just so happy to say I have read it because it was a great and bloody twist on The Little Mermaid that I was definitely in the mood for this month. Sometime last week I started listening to the audiobook for City of Glass by Cassandra Clare, and yes, I am still working my way through it. I have only 2 1/2 hours left and since I listen to it on double speed I have no doubt I will finish it sometime in the next three or four days so yay. Oooh, I also finished reading Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese (thankfully, because I have a class discussion on it tomorrow morning), but again, I finished it just before I sat down to write this post. This book took me through a whirl of strong emotions and sometimes I had to put it down for a bit because it was shockingly real and raw. I did enjoy it though and am glad my teacher assigned us to read it because it is a very important book covering a very important topic in Canadian culture; residential schools.

As for what I am going to pick up this week, I think I am going to start reading the City of Bones graphic novel as well as The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater…I read the first 100 pages around a month ago but got distracted and never finished it! However, due to all my classes and all that fun stuff, I might also be picking up a collection of short stories called Traplines by Eden Robinson. I am super excited to get to this short story collection but the realization that it’s for school kind of takes away the excitement. You know? We’ll see.

A lot of writing also got done this week because I am racing to meet a deadline that is next Sunday, Septemeber 30th. I need to have 20 polished and revised pages to submit to this fellowship I have been working towards for months, and while I am way more behind than I set out to be, that’s okay. I have been working really hard this month and finally finished writing those 20 pages this week and I am kind of…happy with them. This coming week, however, I will be focusing on rewriting and editing them like crazy. Overall, I wrote around 11,000 words this week and it feels good! It really does. I am kind of sad I didn’t have a chance to work on this short story I started writing this month (a fun but dark and mystical fairy story), but I knew I had to put what was important first and that was my 20 pages.

Well, that was my week reading and writing wise and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post as well as my social media accounts which are all linked below. Thanks 🙂

Reading + Writing Update

I was going to start this update off how I usually do, with “I didn’t get AS much reading done as I hoped, but that’s how it goes sometimes…” but then I realized I actually did get a lot of reading done. The thing is, I started 3 new books this week on top of the one I was already reading which is To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo. So, while I didn’t finish a whole lot of books this week, I did read a lot of pages. This is at the fault of my English AP class because of all the required reading I have to do, but I’m not complaining because so far, I’ve been enjoying what I’ve had to read for this class.

Let’s start at the beginning though. I am still not done reading To Kill a Kingdom, but I did read another 150 pages meaning I only have around 100 pages left. Again, still really enjoying it. I also started listening to the audiobook for City of Glass by Cassandra Clare and am about halfway through it. I really enjoy revisiting this series via audiobook while riding the bus to my classes or walking around campus because I spend a lot of my time commuting. As for my English class, we started off the year with the famous Greek tragedy Oedipus the King by Sophocles, and while it was a really weird story with really weird character dynamics (if you’ve read it…you know what I’m talking about), I did actually enjoy it. I’ll go into more detail in my monthly wrap up, but I was surprised at how quick and easy of a read (took me 2 days) it was for me. Phew, okay, the last book to update on is Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese, another book I am reading for English class. This is a book that follows a character who has dealt first hand with residential schools (a massive part of Canadian history). I am also really liking this book and it really touches your heart while reading it. I’m on page 110 out 221 so I have no doubt I will finish it this coming week…well, actually I HAVE to have it read for September 24 so I have no choice but to finish it this week.

Don’t worry, don’t worry. Despite all that reading, I did this week, I also did some writing. For my writing class, our first assignment is actually due tomorrow and it was a “polished prompt” assignment. The prompt was a picture and we were put to the task of writing a 250-300 word story (more like a scene, to be honest) based off of it. I wrote exactly 300 words for that story and had a lot of fun doing it. It required a lot more editing than I thought it would, mostly because I really want to do well on the first assignment despite it being a tiny, tiny fraction of my overall grade. I have also been scrambling to write my first 20 pages for this fellowship with a terrifyingly close deadline. Over this past week, I probably wrote 12 pages towards it but I need to pick up the pace. I still need time to edit it and make it (almost) perfect because I really need this. But anyway, I’m trying not to stress too much and am just enjoying the process of rewriting my WIP of 6 months.

That is all for this reading and writing update and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post as well as my social media accounts linked below. Thanks 🙂

Reading + Writing Update

Happy Sunday!

Thank the blogging gods that I prewrote this past week’s blog posts because I had absolutely no time to sit down and write. I also didn’t have the mental energy or creative juices because this week was my first week back at school, and that always means chaos. I started my first day of senior year on Tuesday and my first day of college (I’m taking a writing class) on Thursday. However, now it is Sunday and I have recovered enough from the week to sit down and update you all on my reading and writing progress of this past week!

As expected, not much reading really happened this week. I read about 100 pages of To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo this week which is more than I expected and so far, I am still loving the story and ruthless characters. It is an entertaining and yes, slightly violent twist on the Little Mermaid in Ancient Greek times. Maybe it isn’t supposed to be influenced by the Little Mermaid, but I’ve noticed quite a few relations and I am really enjoying it overall! For my classes at school this year, I am taking a few that have required readings so it will be a new challenge for me to fit my own personal reading into my schedule while still getting readings for school done. As far as I know, I have to read a book called Indian Horse by…I’m not sure who exactly, Traplines by Eden Robinson, The Life of Pi, Writing Home by David Carpenter, and a few others. That’s kind of a lot but I am still determined to read for my own personal enjoyment here and there, and I will make sure to update you all on those readings as the year goes on! Apart from To Kill a Kingdom though, I also listened and finished the City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare audiobook this past week. I re-read the first book during the BookTubeAThon and really wanted to continue on with the series but this time in audiobook format. I do plan on starting City of Glass this week so I am excited to listen to that whenever I go for walks or just on my commute to school.

As for writing…I did no writing. This week, like I said, was a hectic craze of new schedules, places, and people. I do have a few personal deadlines I really want to hit this month though, so I need to get a move on that before time slips between my fingers. I am re-writing the firsts 20 pages of my WIP for a fellowship (its deadline is September 30th) and I want to get that done in the next two weeks so I have time to thoroughly edit it. I also want to submit those pages to a local scholarship for a writing conference and that has a deadline of September 15th…I did get some writing done today though, about 3 pages of my WIP, and I am really happy with that! I want to keep that up for the rest of the week, and hopefully, by next Sunday I will have something writing related to update you all on. Secondly, I have a writing assignment for my writing class that will be assigned to us on Monday and basically, they just give us a prompt and we have to write a 200-300 word flash fiction story based upon that prompt. Since it is such a short length, this shouldn’t take too much time out of my day, but I do want to put a lot of effort into making it well, good because after all, it is my first writing assignment of the year.

That is all for my reading and writing update and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post as well as my social media accounts which are all linked below, and I will see you in my next post tomorrow 🙂

Reading + Writing Update

I wanted to get another book read in August, but ran out of time. I did end up finally finishing Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman earlier this week and loving it, and then picking up To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo. This was a book I had been anticipating when it first came out several months ago because of its Greek inspired, Siren story. So far, I am just over 50 pages into it and really, really enjoying it, so I hope to finish it in the next few days. I am just really enjoying the atmosphere and story of this book, including the characters and I am excited to see how it all pans out. Currently, I am helping my cousin move into her dorms for university and whatnot, so reading (and writing) probably won’t resume until later on Monday. However, To Kill a Kingdom is only like 340ish pages so I am sure I can get it done soon.

As for writing, this was the week of me getting back in the swing of things, and I think I am finally getting back into a sort of routine of writing a bit every day. This week I wrote around 7k; 5k of it being the rewrites of the beginning of my WIP, and the other 2k being words towards a new short story. I haven’t written since Friday because of family and all that, but hopefully I will pick it up again next week…well not hopefully, I need to!

That is all for my reading and writing update, and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post, and all of my social media accounts linked below. Thanks!

Reading + Writing Update!

Not a lot of reading has been done this month so I don’t have too much to update you on sadly… I am still trudging through Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman, which I have been reading since what feels like the beginning of time. It isn’t that I’m not enjoying it, because I really am! I love this world, the characters, and story but it is just that I kind of out read myself last month. It was the Biannual Bibliothon AND the BookTubeAThon, and I think overall, I read about 13 books. However, I am determined to get a few books read before school starts (which is in like 8 days) and Thunderhead WILL be one of them. Maybe I will have my own mini readathon to ensure I get some reading done even. I don’t have much left though and afterwards I want to pick up P.S. I Like You by Kasie West because I feel like a cheesy, teenage contemporary. Lastly, I want to get to and complete one more book this coming week and that is The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater. I picked this book up a few weeks ago and then I got sidetracked by other books AND DIDN’T FINISH IT. This is the last book in The Raven cycle and I really adore this story overall so why didn’t I just finish it? I don’t know. However, I do know that I am already about 100 pages into it so there is a chance I can finish, or at least get a good chunk, read by the time school starts. Anyways, not much to update on reading wise but lots of hopes and wishes for the next week so let’s see how it goes.

As for writing, I have done a tiny bit. I think I wrote just over 1,000 words this week which is a lot better than none, right? This coming week writing HAS to get done though. It is my last week of summer break before school and even then my cousin is moving into her dorms at the university in my city this Saturday and I will be helping her, so not much writing will get done this coming weekend. So, when you look at it, I have five days free to write. In those five days I have ambitious goals which are: write and edit one whole short story, start rewriting the first 20 pages of my WIP, and start on a second short story. While those are ambitious in comparison to the lack of writing I have done in the month of August, if I really put my mind to do it and try I know I can get most of it done.

Anyways, that is all for this reading and writing update, and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post, as well as all my social media accounts linked below. Thanks 🙂

Reading + Writing Update

This week was not a great reading week…like at all. I think I read about 100 pages total of Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman and that is it. That means I am only 300 pages into the book and still got about 200 pages left. So far of what I have read, I am loving it and super intrigued to see what happens. This week, I just wasn’t in the mood for reading but I do want to try and get some more reading done this week because I only have three weeks left of summer vacation! After that, reading will be very minimal because I will be trying to get back into school. There are a LOT of books I want to get done though so I need to get reading. Like now. My reading plans for this week though are to finish Thunderhead, finish The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater (I am about 100 pages in), and at least start Fullmetal Alchemist volume 2. Fingers crossed I get it all done. I have been feeling more motivated and productive so I have high hopes!

As for writing, I got one or two thousand words written towards my main WIP, Project Mystic and 1,500 words towards one of my short stories. Not as much as I hoped, but a creative break was desperately needed. This week, my writing goals are going to be realistic but I also want to make sure I get lots done. I am leaving to go camping on Friday so I doubt I will get much writing done that day, and I will be gone until Sunday. It is also my birthday this coming week, as well as my best friend’s and grandfather’s so lots of celebrating. So yes, goals are: reach act II of Project Mystic and finish and edit a short story to prep for submission.

That is all for my reading + writing update, and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post and also my social media where I post reading and writing related content 🙂

Reading + Writing Update – BookTubeAThon Days 6 +7

I have been TERRIBLE at updating y’all on my reading progress this readathon, but it is the last day of the BookTubeAThon and I am here to update you all on what I did manage to get done.

The last few days have just been a weird type of busy. I haven’t been productive whatsoever, but it has been a blur of going out with friends and kind of being social. Sadly, my reading and writing suffered because of it, and I did not get nearly as much done this week as I hoped…First off, I never did finish Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman but I am about 200 pages in and in love with it. Hopefully I will be able to finish the last half of it early this coming week, because there are so many books I am anxious to get to in the last few weeks of my summer vacation: The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater, Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, Love & War by Melissa De La Cruz…yeah the list goes on and on. I did get four and a half books read this readathon though, which is more than I would read any other week so I am not too upset about that. The books I did manage to finish were:

  • Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire – 4/5 stars
  • Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins – 4.5/5 stars
  • City of Bones by Cassandra Clare – 4.5/5 stars
  • Fullmetal Alchemist Volume One by Hiromu Arakawa – 4/5 stars

As for writing…I think I only wrote like 7k words this week which is a lot less than what I usually write, but still better than nothing. I am almost 70k deep into my current WIP which is crazy and I am so, so excited to keep inching closer to the end. I have not written in like three WHOLE days which is crazy, and I am itching to write, but I know my creative well really needed a lengthy creative break. Apart from my WIP, I also wanted to have a short story written and then jump into edits this coming week, however that definitely did not happen. There were a lot of gaps in my outline of it so I am going to go back and reshape it before attempting to write it again this week. Hopefully it will go quicker than the first attempt, because I really do want to have a good handful of short stories ready to send around by the end of August!

Anyways, that is all I have to update you on and I hope you enjoyed following me along my BookTubeAThon 2018 journey! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post, as well as all my social media accounts which are linked down below. Thanks for reading 🙂

Reading Update – BookTubeAThon Day 4 + 5

Sorry that I haven’t posted an update in TWO WHOLE DAYS…I got really busy and also, didn’t get much reading done but I am here now and ready to update on my minuscule amount of progress.

On day 4 which was Thursday, I did finish reading City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. I also watched the book-to-movie adaptation, meaning that challenge number 3 is complete! However, I am still FOUR books behind but since it is the weekend and I don’t have much to do, I am determined to get these books done. The books I need to get done for the readathon are:

Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman – Challenge #4: Read a Book with Green on the Cover

A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab – Challenge #5: Read a Book While Wearing the Same Hat

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – Challenge #6: Read a Book with a Beautiful Spine

Fullmetal Alchemist Volume 1 by Hiromu Arakawa – Challenge #7: Read 7 Books

Yes, so those are my plans and finger’s crossed I can get it all done by tomorrow! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post, and all of my social media which will be linked down below, and I will see you in my day 6 update later today 🙂
