2018 Biannual Bibliothon Day 4: Holiday/Winter Fantasy Bucket List

Happy day 4 of the Biannual Bibliothon! I cannot believe it is already day 4…that means we are half way through which is insane. I’m definitely really sad that it is almost finished because despite it being only day 4, I have gotten a lot of reading done and am extremely motivated to keep reading.

Okay, now on to the blogging challenge for today, which is to create a holiday or winter fantasy bucket list where you create a list of 10-15 activities you want to complete with book characters from at least 3 different books. This challenge is hosted by Cody @ thebookworminme so definitely check them out! So the characters I chose to complete these fantasy bucket list items with me are Mark Blackthorn from The Dark Artifices series by Cassandra Clare, Percy Jackson from the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, and Rose Hathaway from the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead…interesting group right? I just love these character and think that going on some wintery adventures with them would be a blast. Anyways, now onto the bucket list!

  1. Have a Snowball Fight in the Land of the Fae – Doesn’t this sound amazing? Thanks to Mark being half faerie, he would be able to get us there so we could have an epic snowball fight. Yes I would probably lose because I would be against Mark who is a Shadowhunter and Rose who is a vampire protector…I might have a chance against Percy? Maybe? Probably not but it would be epic still!
  2. Take Up the Hobby of Dhampir Training – The winter time is the perfect time to take up a new hobby, so why not some badass training? I mean, sure I would be the only one needing the training since Mark is a Shadowhunter who has spent his entire life training, Rose is already a trained Dhampir, and Percy is a son of Poseidon who definitely has used his sword more than once. I guess it would be fun for them to excel as I fail.
  3. Make Some Cool Camp Half Blood Necklaces – Nothing brings people together during the winter time like a good craft, and ever since I read the Percy Jackson series I have desperately wanted a Camp Half Blood necklace that all the characters have, representing the years they have been at camp. It would just be a lot of fun and a good bucket list activity.
  4. Visit Boreas in His Ice Palace – If you didn’t know, Boreas is the Greek god of the North wind and in the Heroes of the Olympus series, Piper, Leo and Jason travel to Montreal, Canada where he has a massive, epic ice palace. Not only would that be incredibly cool to see a magical ice palace, but we would also get to see Montreal! Even though Percy didn’t go there himself, he is tight with Piper, Leo and Jason so I’m sure he could hook us up because I have always wanted to see the ice sculpture contest they have during the winter in Montreal. It would be so much fun.
  5. Visit Idris! – Speaking of visiting places, Idris would be so gorgeous in the winter and I would love, love to see it. Mark is a Shadowhunter and we could get Magnus to portal us all in and we would just have a lovely, magical trip to Idris, the land of the Shadowhunters. We could go ice skating, go dress shopping…there are no limits.
  6. Ski Trip with Rose’s School – So in Frostbite by Richelle Mead (the 2nd book in the Vampire Academy series), Rose and Lisa’s school goes on a ski trip in the mountains. I mean, I’m not the biggest skier but I would love to snuggle up around the fire with my friends. Honestly, I can’t see Percy as a big skier, but Mark is very graceful and Rose is tough so I’m sure they’d have no problem.
  7. Go Christmas Shopping at the Shadow Market – That would be fun, right? The Shadow Market is part of Cassandra Clare’s Shadow World and is where downworlders tend to scheme and rip people off, and sometimes Shadowhunters wind up there too. I mean it might be a little sketchy and unsafe, but I think we would find some really cool gifts. Personally, I would be all over the fortune tellers and whatnot because it would be so intriguing.
  8. Dance with the Fae – Another trip to the land of the fae, and while going to their parties can be dangerous, but as long as you refrain from eating or drinking anything, you’ll be fine! I mean, we have Mark to pull us out if we fall into the trance of wanting to dance for the rest eternity so all would be well.
  9. Go Winter Cave Spelunking with the Strigoi – In Vampire Academy, the Strigoi are these evil vampires that hide out in caves because they can’t stand the sunlight. Yes, it would dangerous but caves are so cool to adventure into, especially during the winter. Also, I would have 3 strong fighters with me so they could definitely take them on. Maybe after taking up some of Rose’s Dhampir training, I wouldn’t be useless either!
  10.  Exchange Gifts with the Greek Gods – And finally, after all of these crazy, winter bucket list adventures, we will end off by exchanging gifts with the Greek gods! Maybe a gold, plastic crown for Zeus, a mirror for Aphrodite, and some sunglasses for Ares? It would be interesting and I’m sure they would feed us some fantastic food afterwards.

Those are my 10 winter/holiday fantasy bucket list items and I hope you enjoyed! It took me a while to come up with them but hopefully they are somewhat creative and funny. Top 5 Favourite Covers!

Sorry there were no blog posts on Monday and Tuesday but from now on there will be so again, I am so sorry about that. Anyways, now I am going to share my top 5 favourite book covers in order so I hope you enjoy!

#5. Winter by Marissa Meyer – Winter is the final book in the Lunar Chronicles series and while it is an amazing read, the cover is gorgeous! The cover has our new POV, Winter, holding a glowing red apple because if you didn’t know, each new Lunar Chronicles book is based on a different fairy tale. If you haven’t read the Lunar Chronicles definitely go pick it up, read it and then stare at the beautiful covers!

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Jonny Duddle Edition (1)#4. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by Harry Potter (UK Edition) – I bought the Harry Potter series in the UK edition because they are stunning but my favourite is definitely the third one. Prisoner of Azkaban used to be one of my least favourite Harry Potter books story wise and cover wise but now I love both. The blues and the patronus featured on the cover just make it that much better! Honestly, if for some odd reason then you NEED to pick up this fantastic series. alexandra-bracken-passenger

#3. Passengers by Alexandra Bracken – When I saw this cover I was like “I HAVE to buy this” and I did but sadly didn’t enjoy the story as much as I did the cover. Passengers is a time travel book and the illustration of the boat on the cover of the book is so incredible that I really wish I loved the story. I am going to give the book another try eventually but until then I will just enjoy its beautiful cover.

the-assassins-blade#2. The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J Maas – I haven’t read this book but the cover is so pretty! It has blues and purples that blend nicely but all of Sarah J Maas’s books are breathtaking so I am not surprised this one is also amazing! Please read all of Sarah J Maas’s books though because you will not regret it.

lady-midnight-by-cassandra-clare#1. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare – This is one of my favourite books EVER and it just happens to have a beautiful cover so that is double points to Cassandra Clare. The cover of Lady Midnight is a picture of our main character, Emma Carstairs floating under water with a sword in hand. The shot is so stunning and captures a certain scene perfectly in the book. Looking at the cover gets me super excited for the next book, Lord of Shadows coming out in May!

That is all for this blog post and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Reading Update.

P.S. I couldn’t put in a picture for Winter so sorry about that!

Favourite Books of 2016!

I don’t plan on reading many new books this December, so I thought I ought to share my favourites from this year! In this blog post I will be listing my top 9 favourites from this year and then lastly my all time favourite book from this year so I hope you enjoy! (P.S. The top 9 are in no particular order!)

10. Winter by Marissa Meyer. This was the first book I completed in 2o16 and I thought it was such a satisfying and epic conclusion to the amazing Lunar Chronicles series. I am a huge fan of this series and while in my opinion, it started off slow, it definitely ended with a bang! I am so happy with this book and it just had to make my list.

9. Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout. I absolutely adore this book which is the first book in the Lux series. It is so fun and entertaining to read and it also has a really awesome cast of characters that I love to follow so much!

8. Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky – Oh my gosh I am obsessed with this story! I watched the movie numerous times before I finally picked up this short book but I am so glad I finally did because it met all the expectations that the movie set up for me. I cannot wait to purchase my own copy of this book because it follows such an interesting and important storyline and overall is a fantastic novel.

7. Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead. This is the 3rd book in the Vampire Academy series and it is my favourite out of the entire series, with Spirit Bound right behind it. I love Vampire Academy and I thought the books were all so amazing but when I read Shadow Kiss I was fangirling and just devouring the whole thing.

6. Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. Everyone was raving about this book because the movie was coming out so I decided to pick it up and read it before I read the book…let me tell you it was not a let down! I finished this book in 2 days and I would not have put it down for even a second if I got the chance. I don’t read to many adult books but this book is definitely the way to go.

5.A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. This book came to a very close tie with my all time favourite book of 2016 because this book is just so damn good! I started reading it in 2015 but put it down because I just wasn’t that into it, but then this past summer I picked it up again and could not stop reading it! It is a very loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast and was just everything a book needed to be to be perfect.

4. Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier. This trilogy is a lot of fun and very intriguing. I picked this up at my library just because I have heard about it a few times so I thought why not? Besides, before reading this I hadn’t read too many time travel books but when I read this book, it made me ONLY want to read time travel books…it was just so freaking good and I love this entire trilogy so much!

3. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han.  I have raved about this book plenty of times on my blog but I just can’t stop. I love to read contemporary but this book made me love the genre even more. It is everything you want in a good contemporary book…it has an adorable romance, a quirky main character, and many, many relatable scenes. I cannot wait for the final book in this trilogy because they are so flipping amazing!

2. I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. Unlike many other contemporaries I didn’t devour this book in one sitting. I wanted to always put this book down because I wanted to extend the story for as long as possible which just shows how amazing it was. I loved the 2 main characters and watching them get through a very dark time in their lives was very raw and real and just made the story 100% better.

1. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare!!! This fantastic book was my all time favourite book of 2016, and let me tell you why. I am a massive Mortal Instruments fan but even I didn’t expect to love this book so much. It was all I expected and more and I am ecstatic for the new book coming out this coming May!

Those were my top 10 favourite books of 2016 and I hope you enjoyed!

Greek Gods Tag (original)

I love Greek Mythology so I decided to create a tag using the 12  Olympian gods + an extra goddess and god as questions! Hope you enjoy it and comment below your favourite of the gods 🙂 Mine is either Artemis, Athena or Apollo…

1. Zeus – Name a book that is the king of all the books on your shelf.

Zeus is the King of gods and is also the god of the sky and lightning, so for this one I am going to go with Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare because it is one of my favourite books ever, and the things is huge! It definitely triumphs by shelf.

2. Hera –  Name a character that seems sweet but is deadly.

Hera is the Queen of gods, along with the goddess of family but she can be quite…salty and evil sometimes. And for this one I am going to choose Juliette from Shatter Me because she can be really sweet but she is deadly because she can kill with her touch. Also, throughout the books she becomes less nice and more aggressive, thus revealing her deadly side even more.

3. Poseidon – Name a character that is pretty chill.

Poseidon is the god of the sea, earthquakes and horses and while sometimes he is extremely deadly, he tends to be quite calm and chill. So my answer for this one is Baz from Carry On for this one because he seems really relaxed and chill, and yes I know he is a vampire but his attitude is just like ‘I don’t care’ which gives me that ‘chil’ vibe I guess.

4. Hades – Name a book that is an outcast on your shelf.

Hades is the god of the underworld and of the dead and because of some reasons, he is also exiled from Olympus and being an outcast isn’t fun. My answer for this question I am definitely going to say The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancy for this one because I really didn’t enjoy it. It felt like a second book usually does in a trilogy (a place holder), and it didn’t meet my expectations at all. For that reason, it isn’t as welcomed on my shelf.

5. Athena – Name a character who always has a plan.

Athena is the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy and I really was tempted to say Annabeth Chase for this one but that would be cheating instead I am going to say Hermione Granger from Harry Potter because she usually has a somewhat concrete plan, but even if she didn’t have a plan she is smart enough to come up with something at least.

6. Artemis – Name a character that just does their own thing.

Artemis is twin sister of the god Apollo and is the goddess of the moon and the hunt that she runs where she and some other girls called hunters, swear off men and run around killing monsters, just doing their own thing which I think is cool. Right after I typed this question up, one character popped in my mind and that is Lola Nolan from Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins because Lola has very spontaneous outfits and hairdos  and she doesn’t care if people look at her funny because that is just who she is.

7. Apollo – Name a book on your shelf that impressed you in multiple ways.

Apollo is the god of archery, medicine, the sun, music, etc, etc so he has lots of talents. For this question I am going to say An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir because this book was absolutely fantastic! The plot was incredibly dynamic, the characters really stood out, the problems were totally messed up and the relationships were amazing. Ugh, everything about this book was satisfying.

8. Aphrodite – Name a book on your shelf that has a beautiful cover.

Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty and there are some books that seemed to inherit some of that beauty from her. The one cover on my shelf that I think is one of the prettiest cover is Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi just because the covers with the eyes are just so fricking gorgeous! They all are in the trilogy but Ignite Me is definitely my favourite.

9. Ares – Name a thick headed character. (No offense to Ares)

Ares is the god of war so he probably isn’t the smartest god around but he definitely isn’t alone. Now I wouldn’t exactly say this character is extremely stupid or anything, but in the first book she didn’t make the smartest choices, and that is Mia from the Vampire Academy series. She just pulled some stupid stunts that were not smart at all.

10. Hestia – Name a book on your shelf that makes you feel at home.

Hestia is the goddess of the hearth and home and while she isn’t technically one of the 12 Olympians, she deserves to be in this tag, so this question is pretty straightforward, and my answer for it is City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. I just adore this series so much and whenever I pick up the books I feel warm and happy.

11. Hermes –  Name a character you can never trust.

Hermes is the god of roads, travelers, thieves so naturally he isn’t the most trustworthy god. For my answer I chose Jacin Clay from Winter by Marissa Meyer because while he was trustworthy towards Winter, towards the other characters not so much. He did get better throughout the novel though.

12. Hephaestus – Name a character that is misunderstood.

Hephaestus, being the god of blacksmiths and fire doesn’t exactly seem like a warm and cuddly person but he is often misunderstood. So for my answer, I have chosen two characters because they both fit this question really well. Nico Di Angelo from the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series, and Neville Longbottom from Harry Potter because everyone sees them as what they look like on the outside, but on the inside they are different and more powerful then people know.

13. Dionysus –  Name a character you would party with any day.

Dionysus is the god of wine and partying so this seems like a fitting question. For this one I am going to have to say Percy Jackson from Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan just because Percy is a really fun and sarcastic person so I feel like it would be a good time being with him. Plus he can get people from Camp Half Blood to join us so it would be an even better party.

Hope you liked my original tag and if you would like to use this please give me credit but I would love to see your answers to these questions 🙂
