Readathon Recommendations!

The 2018 Biannual Bibliothon is approaching, so I thought it would be fit to make a blog post recommending some smart readathon choices if you are in need of some quick and fast-paced reads to add to your TBR. Hopefully you will give some of these a try and I hope you enjoy!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

This is a perfect readathon read because it is not only a fantastic book, but it is also fast paced and short, aka the perfect readathon read. It actually amazes me how many people have heard about this book or watched the movie (which is also really good) and yet haven’t read the book! Just do it! Even if you aren’t planning on participating in a readathon soon, just read it anyways. This book follows Charlie, a high school freshman who has never found it easy to make friends and tends to keep to himself because of that, but when he meets a group of misfit seniors he finds a place where he feels at home, and discovers the importance of having friends.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

I recently read this book, just a few weeks ago, and read it in only three hours! It was a fast paced mystery that had me flipping each page with so much anxiety (the good kind though) and anticipation. We Were Liars follows a girl named Candence whose “perfect” family escapes to their private island every summer, however she cannot remember what happened in the summer of her 15th year…all she knows is that it ended with her being found unconscious in the water. A few years after the almost unspoken incident, she returns to the island and to her family, trying to piece together what happened and we follow her along that journey as secrets unravel and truths are uncovered.

Me Before You by JoJo Moyes

This was another book that I finished in only a matter of hours, and also has a movie that is amazing! This book follows Louisa, a young woman in search of a job after being let go from her last one, and while job searching, she stumbles across an ad for a caregiver for Will Traynor, a young man who is quadriplegic. He is cold at first but they eventually grow a close connection, however their relationship is not without its hardships and tears. I love this book and really think it is worth the read!

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

The Wrath and the Dawn was a book I read during the summer BookTubeaThon back in July, and this was such a fast-paced and entertaining read and I was glad I finally got around to reading it. It follows a girl named Shahrzad who is the next wife of the young king, Khalid. However, each night Khalid takes a new wife and by the morning she is dead. When Shahrzad’s best friend is the next victim of Khalid, she volunteers and amazes everyone when she is found alive the next morning, and the morning after that. She soon realizes that there is more to the king than everyone thinks, and he may not be the monster she thought. It is a little slow at first, but once you hit about 50 pages the world around you will dissolve.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

vampire-academy

Once you start Vampire Academy, there is a good chance you will just marathon the rest of the series and that is such an amazing feeling. Vampire Academy is filled with action, romance and is the definition of fun and fast-paced. It follows Rose Hathaway, a protector of her vampire best friend, Lisa, and after a year of running from their school, they are found and brought back. They were always told the outside world was dangerous, but they ran away from their school for a reason.

Those are 5 readathon recommendations and I hope you enjoyed! Keep an eye out for my upcoming blog post on my TBR for the 2018 Biannual Bibliothon, coming sometime this week, and also check out my last blog post: Reading/Writing Update!

Reading/Writing Update!

wewereliars

I have read 3 books this week…crazy I know right. And they weren’t rereads either! Each one I really enjoyed, and have just made me more motivated to read. The last book I finished was We Were Liars by E. Lockhart, and I picked it up at around 9pm and finished it at 12am. It was so good I couldn’t put it down (except for the collective twenty minutes I had to get ready for bed and clean my room) but it was just so gripping I had to know how it would end. I don’t know exactly what to pick up next…I feel like an easy contemporary but I also kind of want to start on This Savage Song…hmm. I think I am going to pick up This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab because I have heard nothing but AMAZING things about it so I am curious to see if it lives up to the hype. Also this is my first Victoria/V.E. Scwab book so yay!

As for writing, I have been writing about 1000 words a day since Thursday, and am loving getting back into writing. Last night after finishing We Were Liars, I could not sleep because one, I was too sad and two, I really wasn’t tired at all, so I got my laptop and started writing. I wrote until about 2am and finished with just over 1000 words which I was really happy about. From past writing experiences I have realized that if I get the urge to write, I need to just write because otherwise it can be really hard to get myself to sit down and write. It is easy once I get going, but as they say, starting is the hardest part.

That is all for my reading/writing update and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: 5 Goals Every Writer Should Set + How to Stay Accountable

P.S. All the pictures I use in my heading and blog posts are NOT mine. I do not take credit for them because I am an awful photographer, but if you are the owner or know the owner of any of the photos I use please tell me so I can give them credit!

January 2018 TBR!

This is my first TBR of the new year and I am so excited! 2017 was kind of a reading bust because I only read 40-or-so books, but I am determined to read a lot more this coming year. Because of that…my TBR is kind of ambitious but I know I can do it!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets + Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by JK Rowling

Currently I am re reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and am obviously loving it, as it is getting me in the holiday spirit. Obviously I cannot just start one and not continue on with the whole series, so I plan on giving the entire series a re read! I doubt I need to explain the synopsis of the Harry Potter series, especially since these are the second and third books in the series but yeah, I am really excited to be giving these my annual yearly re read!

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

Eliza and Her Monsters was a book I read back in July for the BookTubeAThon, and I read it in just a few hours because it was so amazing. It talks about the hardships of being a creative person, as well as being someone who doesn’t fit in well at school and suffers from mental illness. These are really important representations in books because I know for myself, it is very relatable. Eliza and Her Monsters follows Eliza, who is the anonymous creator of the online phenomenon webcomic, Monstrous Sea. It follows Eliza as she meets Wallace, who happens to be Monstrous Sea’s biggest fanfic writer, and she struggles with keeping her true identity a secret as they grow closer together, brought together by their love for this webcomic that she created.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

wewereliars

This is a really short book that I heard is amazing, so I have no doubt that once I actually force myself to pick it up, I won’t want to put it down. We Were Liars follows a “perfect” family that spends every summer on private island, however this summer is not the same. Cadence, a fifteen year old girl, has something happen to her during her fifteenth summer, and with the help of others she tries to remember the accident. I really had to pull this synopsis from online, but even then it is still really mysterious…and intriguing so I am excited to (hopefully) pick it up next month!

This Savage Song by V.E Schwab

I really look up to Victoria as a writer. She has fantastic tips and ideas about creativity, and overall she seems like a very genuine person! Not too long ago I purchased This Savage Song, because it got, and still is getting, wonderful reviews so I really would like to get to it in the New Year. This Savage Song follows August and Kate, two who are on opposite sides of their divided city which are at war. All August wants is to be human, and he could if he steals a soul with music. When Kate gets kicked out of yet another boarding school, a chance arises and he jumps at it, only to be faced with a change of direction and suddenly him and Kate are on the run.

Those are the five books I hope to get to in the month of January, and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog pots: January 2018 Talk 🙂

March 2017 Haul!

Yep, I bought a few books this month. Luckily not as many as previous months, but still a few so I hope you enjoy!

before-i-fall1Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver – Since the movie came out this month and I had plans to see it, I decided to give the book a try. Before I Fall is about a girl named Sam who has it all. She has three great best friends, Lindsay, Ally and Elody, she is popular and has a boyfriend named Rob. But after coming home from a party one night, her friends and her get in a car crash and Sam suddenly finds herself reliving that day over and over again. This is a very unique concept for a book and I was really excited to read it. I recently finished it so stay tuned for my wrap up on my thoughts on it!

wewereliarsWe Were Liars by E. Lockhart – I have absolutely no idea what this book is about, and whenever I search a description it comes up with some confusing paragraph, so I decided to just figure out what it is about while reading it. I have heard a lot of good things about this book though and I heard there are lots of twists and turns. Hopefully I will get to this soon, because I am very intrigued by it!

pj3Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Titan’s Curse by Rick Riordan (Graphic Novel) – I finally bought my first graphic novel! I tried to read graphic novels when I was younger, but they aren’t really my thing, but when I say this Percy Jackson one I just had to get it because I love anything Percy Jackson related. This is the third book in the Percy Jackson series and follows our main character Percy Jackson who discovers his father is a Greek god. Now thrust into a crazy world of demigods, gods and monsters, he has to stay alive and also save the world. Cannot wait to flip through this.

themoonandmoreThe Moon and More by Sarah Dessen – I have read a fair share of Sarah Dessen books, but there always seems to be more!  The Moon and More is about this girl named Emaline who has been dating her perfect boyfriend, Luke, all through high school. But now that college is approaching, she begins to wonder if they are the perfect match anymore. Especially after meeting an ambitious New Yorker named Theo, these questions are becoming something she can’t escape. As always I am excited to read another Sarah Dessen book and I can only hope it will not disappoint!

Those are all the books I purchased in March and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Reading/Writing Update!
