Unpopular Book Opinions!

This book tag was originally created by TheBookArcher on YouTube, and it looked like a lot of fun so I decided to do it!

  1. A Popular Book or Series You Didn’t Like

Twilight by Stephanie Meyers…I didn’t hate the first book but I could not get into it whatsoever. I read the first hundred or so pages, but then skimmed the rest and the only reason I know what happens is because I have seen the movies, which honestly, I prefer over the books.

2. A Popular Book or Series that Everyone Else Seems to Hate but You Love

I wouldn’t necessarily say everyone hates it, but there is controversy surrounding this trilogy and that is The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy by Jenny Han. It is very cliché, and I do see its flaws, but overall I really enjoyed it and can see myself re reading it in the future!

3. A Love Triangle Where the Main Character Ended Up with the Person You Did NOT Want Them to End Up with, or an OTP You Don’t Like

I am going to go with an OTP I don’t like, and if you haven’t read Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare, you might not want to read this, but it isn’t that big of a spoiler. For this I am going to have to say Mark Blackthorn and Kieran because I do not like Kieran. I think Mark deserves SO much better and while Kieran does have his moments, he did something that I will never, ever forgive him for.

4. A Popular Book Genre That You Hardly Reach For

I do have a few books of this genre, but I hardly ever reach for it on my own, and that is sci-fi. I do have the first two books in the 5th Wave trilogy by Rick Yancy, and also the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, but other than that I don’t really read to much sci-fi.

5. A Popular or Beloved Character that You Do Not Like

Hmm…okay a popular character I don’t like that everyone else seems to is Lissa from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Lissa is portrayed as a very sweet character, but I found her very, very annoying at times.

 6. A Popular Author that You Can’t Seem to Get Into

John Green! I have read three of his books and I mean, they were okay, but I don’t think I will pick up anything else of his. I just find his stories are all the same and his writing just isn’t for me!

7. A Popular Book Trope That You Are Tired of Seeing

Hmm, there are a lot but I am going to have to say the “I really like them but I am not good for them” book trope because ugh, it is so aggravating. If you like the person don’t push them away! Even if you think you are “bad” for them, they probably won’t care if they also like you.

8. A Popular Book Series That You Have No Interest in Reading

Okay, so I am not going to say I will never read this because I am sure eventually I will, but at the moment I have no desire to read Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman…I am sure it is amazing, from what I have heard, but at the moment it just doesn’t sound like something I would be into, but possibly sometime in the future!

9. The Saying Goes “The Book is Always Better than the Movie” but What Movie or TV Show Adaptation Do You Prefer Over the Book?

For this I am going to have to go with, hands down, The Maze Runner by James Dashner. I enjoyed the movie (both of them) way, way more than the books. I found the books very plain and not very captivating, but I thought the movies were pretty good!

Popular Books I Haven’t Read…

I do read a lot, but there are quite a few books that I still haven’t read yet that everybody else already has…for some I have valid reasons why I haven’t read them but for other’s I don’t. Anyways, here are the popular books that I haven’t yet read!

Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyers – Okay, I have read the first book, Twilight, but I would say that rather than reading it I skimmed it…I just wasn’t that into the story and found the writing really plain and boring! I do have the entire series so maybe some day I will give it another try, but at the moment, I don’t see myself continuing on with the series soon.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak – Everybody has read this book and has said it is so good but yet, I still haven’t read it! I did buy it this month though so I will eventually read it. The Book Thief seems like such a powerful and enriching book that I am really excited to read and I am almost positive I will love it just as much as everyone else seems to.

Passengers by Alexandra Bracken – Last year this book had a lot of hype around it, and it still does, which is why I think I didn’t enjoy the bits I read as much as I thought I would. I read about 100 pages of it but honestly, those 100 pages were extremely difficult for me to get through. I found the main character really boring and the entire book just didn’t grip me in the way I expected it too. I thought it was because time travel wasn’t my thing, but then I read Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier which is another time travel based book and I loved it! I will pick it up again in the future, but I don’t know if it will be this year.

Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Aime Kaufman – This is a super popular sci-fi book that is told in a multimedia format which looks really, really cool. I do want to read this book and the only excuse I have for why I haven’t read it is simply because I just haven’t picked it up. Hopefully I will give it a read soon though!

Uglies Series by Scott Westerfield – Uglies is a dystopian set series which has a pretty interesting plotline that intrigues me. I picked the first book up earlier this month and do intend on reading it sometime this year! I have heard mixed reviews about this series but as always, you have to read it before you judge it, but I am hoping that I do enjoy it.

Those are some of the popular books I haven’t read yet and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to comment some of the popular books you haven’t read, and also check out my last post: Reading/Writing Update!

My Go To De-Stress Books

I love using books as a way to de-stress because if you are interested enough in them, they whisk you away to some other world. So here are my top 5 books that I like to read when I need to de-stress and I hope they open up some options for any of you!

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell – Fangirl is about a girl named Cath who goes to her first year of college with her more outgoing twin sister, Wren. The only thing is, is that Cath is having a harder time adjusting until she meets her roommate and her friend, Levi. I absolutely love this book and it is one of the most fun and cute books I own. This is definitely one of the first books I go to if I need to just take a break.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyers – If you didn’t know, although how could you not, Twilight is about Bella who just moved to a small town called Forks to live with her dad. But she gets more than she bargained with when she falls in love with Edward, a vampire. This book is just incredibly easy to get sucked into and overall it is a fun book to read.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare – Of course I had to add this series somewhere on here because it is my favourite series. City of Bones is about Clary, a girl who just had her mother kidnapped and is now trying to figure out who she really is. Plus this series is so compelling and enjoyable and I think everyone needs to read it. I mean, it can be stressful at times but this is the stress you want…

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan – This book is about 12 year old Percy Jackson who discovers that he is a demigod which means he is half human and half Greek god. He is taken to a safe haven for demigods called Camp Half Blood only to be told that he is being accused of stealing Zeus’s master bolt. Now he has to go on a quest along with 2 other friends to find the real thief. This series is just so fun and easy to read and the world is so easy to get caught up in. READ IT!!!

Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout – Obsidian is about a girl named Katy who moves next to 2 twin aliens, Dee and Damon Black and is immediately thrown into their crazy world. I can read this book in literally one sitting just because its so entertaining and gripping. I can easily get whisked away from reality while reading Jennifer L Armentrout’s books.

And those are all my recommendations for books that you can use to de-stress! Since my school is starting in a matter of days I know that I’m going to be using a few of these pretty soon. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this blog post and don’t forget to check out my last one: How To: Be a Better Writer!

Popular Series I Haven’t Read

There are so many books out there you often miss quite a few, and there are so many series I want to get to but haven’t yet so here is a list of them! Hopefully, by the end of the year I will have gotten to one or two of them but you never know with reading.

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater – This book has lots of hype around it, especially since the last book recently came out. I have heard so many great things about this series so I really want to start it soon and join in on all the fun! I honestly have no idea what it’s about but I think it will make it more fun by keeping it that way.

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson – This is a really popular fantasy series by a very popular fantasy author. I honestly feel a little intimidated by this series, not because its big but because it just seems so complex! I do own the first book though so I am planning on starting it very soon. Hopefully.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer – Yeah, I haven’t read this series. I have read the first book but that was a few years ago and it was okay, but nothing really caught my attention. I want to give this series another chance though because now I am a sucker for cheesy romantic movies and books so I feel I may enjoy it more than I did the first time!

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor – I have heard so many fantastic things about this series and I don’t know why I haven’t picked it up yet! Again, I am not 100% sure what it is about but I believe it has something to do with angels which is awesome. I am hoping to get to this series soon but at the moment my TBR is kind of full…hopefully that will change soon.

Those are 4 popular series that I have not read but would like too! I hope you enjoyed this blog post and don’t forget to comment any series you haven’t read before 🙂

Book Recommendations!!!

This book recommendations blog post will be a bit different then others because I will be recommending the books in a different way. This is inspired by Sasha Alsberg’s (abookutopia on YouTube) recommendation video “If you like this book then you’ll like this book.” Confusing? You’ll understand if you read the recommendations below!

If you like Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi then you will like Legend by Marie Lu. These two trilogies are both dystopian and have a similar feel to them, plus they are just amazing books and you will devour each and every one of them!

If you like Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell then you will like Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Again, these are the same genre (contemporary) but they are quite different yet there is a resemblance to the other. I love both these books so much and I know you all will too!

If you like Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas than you will like Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. These are both amazing fantasy books that will captivate you from the beginning! It takes me a bit to get into fantasy like this but once I did I could not put it down!

If you like Twilight by Stephanie Meyer than you will LOVE Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I recently just finished the Vampire Academy series and it is amazing! And obviously if you like Twilight you will like Vampire Academy because they both have the same feel to them!

If you like The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy you will like Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout. These are both sci fi books that I personally adore and everyone else who reads them seems to love them as well so…Read them!!!

Those are a few recommendations and I hope you liked them!

Popular Books I Still Haven’t Read

All of us have those books we have never read that everyone else has and today I decided to share with you the ones I haven’t gotten to yet.

The Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer…I read the first book in the summer but it never wowed me so I didn’t move onto the next books but I have all the books so I will try and finish the series.

Passengers by Alexandra Bracken…I am currently reading this now after putting it down last month because nothing exciting happened. I know the exciting part happens towards the end but that is like another 150 pages and I just wish it wasn’t so slow but I will finish it, I promise and then I will write a review on it.

Dorothy Must Die series by Danielle Paige…Okay so I read the first book and at first I enjoyed it but then I lost interest. It wasn’t because nothing exciting happened but because I didn’t connect with the characters at all and it just wasn’t my type of book. The CW is currently deciding whether or not to make it a TV series and I will definitely give it a shot because I think it would make a good show.

The Death Cure by James Dashner…Again I read the first and second book and I really liked the first book. I thought it was a great idea but then I read the second book and all they seemed to do was walk through the desert and that bore me. I feel like Dashner kind of didn’t try as hard with the second book which drove me to not wanting to read the last book but I got spoiled anyway…cry.

Those are some of the popular books I have not read and comment down below the ones you haven’t read!
