Unpopular Book Opinions!

This book tag was originally created by TheBookArcher on YouTube, and it looked like a lot of fun so I decided to do it!

  1. A Popular Book or Series You Didn’t Like

Twilight by Stephanie Meyers…I didn’t hate the first book but I could not get into it whatsoever. I read the first hundred or so pages, but then skimmed the rest and the only reason I know what happens is because I have seen the movies, which honestly, I prefer over the books.

2. A Popular Book or Series that Everyone Else Seems to Hate but You Love

I wouldn’t necessarily say everyone hates it, but there is controversy surrounding this trilogy and that is The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy by Jenny Han. It is very cliché, and I do see its flaws, but overall I really enjoyed it and can see myself re reading it in the future!

3. A Love Triangle Where the Main Character Ended Up with the Person You Did NOT Want Them to End Up with, or an OTP You Don’t Like

I am going to go with an OTP I don’t like, and if you haven’t read Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare, you might not want to read this, but it isn’t that big of a spoiler. For this I am going to have to say Mark Blackthorn and Kieran because I do not like Kieran. I think Mark deserves SO much better and while Kieran does have his moments, he did something that I will never, ever forgive him for.

4. A Popular Book Genre That You Hardly Reach For

I do have a few books of this genre, but I hardly ever reach for it on my own, and that is sci-fi. I do have the first two books in the 5th Wave trilogy by Rick Yancy, and also the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, but other than that I don’t really read to much sci-fi.

5. A Popular or Beloved Character that You Do Not Like

Hmm…okay a popular character I don’t like that everyone else seems to is Lissa from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Lissa is portrayed as a very sweet character, but I found her very, very annoying at times.

 6. A Popular Author that You Can’t Seem to Get Into

John Green! I have read three of his books and I mean, they were okay, but I don’t think I will pick up anything else of his. I just find his stories are all the same and his writing just isn’t for me!

7. A Popular Book Trope That You Are Tired of Seeing

Hmm, there are a lot but I am going to have to say the “I really like them but I am not good for them” book trope because ugh, it is so aggravating. If you like the person don’t push them away! Even if you think you are “bad” for them, they probably won’t care if they also like you.

8. A Popular Book Series That You Have No Interest in Reading

Okay, so I am not going to say I will never read this because I am sure eventually I will, but at the moment I have no desire to read Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman…I am sure it is amazing, from what I have heard, but at the moment it just doesn’t sound like something I would be into, but possibly sometime in the future!

9. The Saying Goes “The Book is Always Better than the Movie” but What Movie or TV Show Adaptation Do You Prefer Over the Book?

For this I am going to have to go with, hands down, The Maze Runner by James Dashner. I enjoyed the movie (both of them) way, way more than the books. I found the books very plain and not very captivating, but I thought the movies were pretty good!

Those are my answers for the Unpopular Opinions Book Tag and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Reading/Writing Update!

Reading Update!!!

October is coming to an end so I thought I would update all of you on where my reading is at the moment. August and September were much slower reading months for me but now I am finally getting back into the swing of things and I couldn’t be happier! While November and the following months are going to be much more hectic, I am hoping to keep up this reading pace.

At the moment, I am about a hundred pages off of finish P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han which is fantastic by the way. The first book, To All the Boys I Loved Before follows Laura Jean, a girl who writes love letters to every boy she has ever loved, but when they all get sent out she couldn’t be more mortified. I love contemporaries and this duology is just so fun and fast paced that I find myself finishing them in one day. I am planning on finishing this book later today and then finally reading The Last Star by Rick Yancy. I am so excited to read the finale to The 5th Wave trilogy just because it is such a great series. I have absolutely no idea how everything is going to work itself out but I hope it has the good, strong ending that it deserves! This book is also quite a short read so I am planning on finishing it in the next couple of days.

That’s all for my reading update and don’t forget to comment what you are currently reading and your thoughts on it! Thanks 🙂

Book Recommendations!!!

This book recommendations blog post will be a bit different then others because I will be recommending the books in a different way. This is inspired by Sasha Alsberg’s (abookutopia on YouTube) recommendation video “If you like this book then you’ll like this book.” Confusing? You’ll understand if you read the recommendations below!

If you like Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi then you will like Legend by Marie Lu. These two trilogies are both dystopian and have a similar feel to them, plus they are just amazing books and you will devour each and every one of them!

If you like Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell then you will like Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Again, these are the same genre (contemporary) but they are quite different yet there is a resemblance to the other. I love both these books so much and I know you all will too!

If you like Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas than you will like Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. These are both amazing fantasy books that will captivate you from the beginning! It takes me a bit to get into fantasy like this but once I did I could not put it down!

If you like Twilight by Stephanie Meyer than you will LOVE Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I recently just finished the Vampire Academy series and it is amazing! And obviously if you like Twilight you will like Vampire Academy because they both have the same feel to them!

If you like The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy you will like Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout. These are both sci fi books that I personally adore and everyone else who reads them seems to love them as well so…Read them!!!

Those are a few recommendations and I hope you liked them!

Sci-fi Book Recommendations!

Since for Camp NaNoWriMo I am writing a YA sci-fi book I thought I would give you guys some awesome alien based book recommendations that I think are amazing and I am sure you will to! Comment below your favourtie sci-fi book! Mine is either the 5th Wave or Obsidian…

Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout is a sort of supernatural/romance series that I really love and I know you will too. Her books are just extremely easy to get into and enjoy which I really appreciate. This series is about a girl named Katy, who after her dad died, she and her mom moved away to get a fresh start. One thing she doesn’t realize though is she moved next to two twin aliens…

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy is an amazing sci-fi book about a girl named Cassie who is trying to survive during an alien apocalypse. Aliens have come down to earth because they want to inhabit it which means nobody is safe. I loved this book and while the second one let me down the first one totally cancels it out just because of how fantastic it is.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer is a very interesting and different series that I absolutely adore. Each book is a loosely based on a fairy tale with a sci-fi twist. The books are so rich, interesting and detailed and you all need to read it! The first book does start off a bit slow but once you get into it you will not want to stop.

Those are a few sci-fi book recommendations and I hope you liked this post 🙂 Remember, comment down below if you have any post ideas for me because I would love to know what you guys want!

Books I Don’t Like

So as we all may know, there are good books and there are bad books. In this post I will be going over the few books I just didn’t like for whatever reason. (P.S. This is just my personal opinion)

The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancy is the second book in The 5th Wave trilogy and I absolutely loved The 5th Wave, I just thought it was a fantastic book but then I read the second book…and lets just say I was really disappointed with it and gave it a 2/5 stars.

Insurgent and Allegiant by Veronica Roth are the second and third book of the Divergent trilogy and just like with the Infinite Sea I loved the first book. Divergent was a really strong first book and I was super excited to dive right into the last few books but I just found them really dull and throughout the entire books they never hooked me. 3/5 stars for each.

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins is the last book in the Hunger Games trilogy. I don’t adore the first two books but I still like to read them but it was just so hard to get through the last book and I found it a bit…un clear at times so I gave it a 3/5 stars.

Those are the top 4 books that I do not exactly like but please don’t think they are errible books they are just books I didn’t find very gripping or interesting.

Top 5 Books of 2015

Even though this is a bit late considering the fact that the first month of 2016 is already coming to an end, I still decided to share my top 5 favourite books of 2015. These books are in no particular order and I read them all for the first time last year so here they are!

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins is a contemporary novel about a seventeen year old girl named Anna who is sent to a boarding school in Paris where she meets a very swoon worthy boy named Etienne St.Claire, and it is about their relationship becoming possibly more than a friendship. I really, really loved this book and I gave it a 4.5/5 stars.

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins is another contemporary novel about a girl named Lola, who realizes her first childhood love has moved back next to her and may even come between Lola and her current boyfriend. This book was also amazing and it was so adorable and I highly recommend it for anyone who loves feel-good books. I also gave this a 4.5/5 stars!

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabbaa Tahir is a fantasy novel that is set in an ancient fantasy atmosphere where a girl named Laia fights to save her brother from his prison. I found this book really refreshing and interesting and I just all around loved it! It is really unique considering that the military wears silver masks that eventually mold into their faces…anyway I gave this book a 5/5 stars. Highly recommend it.

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy is a sci-fi novel about a girl named Cassie who is one of the few survivors of an alien attack. She finds herself on an epic mission to save her younger brother, Sammy as she also battles to stay alive. I am not a huge science fiction lover but this book really changed the approach I took on them. This was just a great and funny novel that I would give 4/5 stars too!

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas is a very epic, high fantasy novel about an assassin named Celaena Sardothian who enters a competition to be the king’s assassin/champion in order to regain her freedom. This book was just fantastic. Sarah has such beautiful, descriptive writing and I connected so easily with Celaena because Sarah really made her feel like a 3D character. I defiantly give this book a 5/5 stars!

I read so many amazing books in 2015 it was really difficult to narrow it down to 5 but I am pretty sure the books I picked were the best I read. My goal was to read a total of 30 books (new books) but this year I am going to try and bump that up to 50 but this time instead of only new books it will just be all the books I read in general. Anyway that is all I will be saying for now and I will talk to you guys tomorrow when I post my new blog! 🙂
