2018 Biannual Bibliothon Day 3: Reading Update!

Hmm, so didn’t get as much reading done as I hoped, however I did finish listening to Peter Pan! I had just over an hour left so I went for a walk and finished it off. Overall I really enjoyed it and would recommend listening to it in audiobook format! As it neared the end, I got really invested in the story and had a blast listening to it. I also finished The One by Kiera Cass which I am happy yet sad about, because these books just are so fluffy and make me feel all warm inside. There was only 70 pages left so I flew through the last few pages in like 30 minutes, however I did listen to 3 chapters in audiobook format because while I was walking around, I finished Peter Pan a bit earlier than expected so I gave it a shot and really, really liked it! Once I finished The One, I did not pick up another book on my TBR because before the readathon, I was reading On Writing by Stephen King, and since I only had about 100 pages left, I decided to pick it up and quickly finish it since I am currently on track with the readathon! It is day 3 and I have successfully read 3 books. Tomorrow, I think I am going to pick up All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, for the challenge of reading a book you don’t know much about. I was going to pick up The Book Thief, however it doesn’t fit with any of the challenge I have left…if I have time at the end of the readathon I will read it though, otherwise I will start it once the readathon is over!

Reading/Writing Update!

Happy Sunday!

I am currently working my way through Stephen King’s “On Writing” and continuously thinking why I haven’t read this sooner. A year ago I took it out from the library but never got around to actually read it, and then this last month I put my name on the waiting list for it, got it again and decided to give it a try. Surprise! I am loving it. I am just over half way through and if all goes to plan I will finish it before the day is done because it is that good! The next book I really want to read is Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare…it would be a re read but I just really, really want to dive back into the world of Shadowhunters and also want to see the amazing characters in this book. Hopefully I will be able to finish Lady Midnight before the 20th, because I have decided to take part in the 2018 Biannual Bibliothon! I will have my TBR up soon as well as more info on this week long readathon, but I cannot wait for it to begin.

Lately I have been writing so, so much which is amazing and I love it, however I do think last night I overworked myself. The past three days I have been writing at all hours of they day possible, but today I think I will just write later in the evening and try and resort back to my usual writing routine because sadly, I do have other things to get done…like my school work!

Fall Reading Recommendations!

Fall is my favourite month because the weather has cooled down so it isn’t 100 hundred degrees anymore, and it is the perfect time of the year to curl up and read a good book with a cup of hot tea or coffee. Personally, I feel like the books I read in the fall are more heavy and dark books, so here are a few recommendations!

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

This is the perfect book to read in the fall because it is dark and mystical and is definitely a page turner. The Raven Boys follows a cast of different characters and one of them is Blue Sargent, a girl from a family of psychics who doesn’t seem to possess the same gift. That is until one night she sees a ghost of the soon-to-be dead and he introduces himself as Gansey. Blue is mystified at how she could see him, but when she meets the real Gansey one day, things flip upside down. I really enjoyed this book and am excited to continue on with the series this fall!

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

Throne of Glass is a dark, high fantasy series that has magic and assassins, and is overall a very complex and interesting story. While I am not a huge fan of the books after book two, I did really enjoy this first one and am dying to give it a re read. Throne of Glass follows an assassin named Calaena Sardothian who has been let out of a slave camp so she can participate in a tournament to become the king’s personal assassin. There is a lot of action, romance and adventure and while it has been a while since I first read it, I remember that I loved it!

The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger by Stephen King

I would say all of Stephen King’s books are very dark, so I had to add one to the list. This is the first book in The Dark Tower series, which has been recently adapted into a movie. Since I have only seen the movie and haven’t read the book (yet), and since the setting sounds pretty complex I won’t try to explain it because I would probably not do it justice! It does sounds like a very adventurous and entertaining read though, and am excited to get to it this fall.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

This is a contemporary book that follows a girl named Mia Hall. Mia strives to get accepted into Julliard and live out her dreams of playing the cello, but that is all jeopardized when she and her family get into a car crash. We follow Mia in the past and present, and learn more about her as well as what is going on around her during the crash. This is also a movie, which I really enjoyed, and is dark and sad, but also happy and fluffy a lot of the time!

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games may be one of the darkest books out there because of its concept…but I think that is what makes it so appealing. The Hunger Games, if you didn’t know, follows our main character Katniss who lives in a society where at the age of 12, you are reaped among others to participate in the Hunger Games, where 24 kids are placed in an arena and forced to kill each other to win. The movies are amazing and the books are also good and very fall appropriate so definitely check them out if you haven’t already!

Reading/Writing Update!

Slowly I am getting back into the swing of things and it feels so good honestly. This morning a read about 30 pages of Geekerella by Ashley Poston, which I am very much enjoying at the moment, and have no doubt that I will keep enjoying it. Fingers crossed I can finish it by the end of the weekend, but we will see! Once I finish Geekerella, I plan on picking up The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger by Stephen King, which is the first book in The Dark Tower series. I watched the movie and really liked the storyline and the entire atmosphere of the movie because it was unlike anything I have watched. My friend, who has read the first book, said the book was way better than the movie so I knew I had to pick it up and give it a read. This will be my first Stephen King book and I am so excited and curious to see how I like it!

Finally I have writing things to update on! I mean, I haven’t actually written anything yet, but I have some stories lined up to submit to different contests. I am really excited to start writing again, but after not writing for a few weeks it will be a challenge to come up and write 7 different stories all of the sudden! All of the deadlines are between now and the end of October, but some of those deadlines are approaching very fast so I need to get started.
