Shadowhunter Runes Book Tag (Original)

There are so many Shadowhunter runes out there, so I decided to get a little creative and create my own tag using some of the runes. If you want to do this tag don’t forget to tag me in it so I can see all of your answers to the questions I have chosen!

Anyways, onto the tag!

Trust – Pick a Book/Series Where Trust Was Betrayed

If you haven’t read Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan than do not keep reading!!!

The book I chose for this question is Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, and the character is yes, you guessed it, Luke Castellan. I really liked Luke and then all of a sudden we realized he wasn’t who we thought he was, and it broke my heart. However, I remember thinking how genius it was to have a character so close to one of the main characters become the villain. It made for a more interesting and tense series that 10-14-year-old me loved. Honestly, I still love it even now.

Acceleration – Pick a Book/Series That You Accelerated Through

Image result for acceleration rune the mortal instruments

I have flown through many, many books, but the first one that came to my mind was Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. This is a pretty massive book, being over 660 pages, and I was so sucked into the world and the characters that I finished it in less than 48 hours. Every spare time I had before school, during school and after school was used to read this amazing book and I have absolutely no regrets.

Deflect/Block – Pick a Book/Series That You Have Blocked Out From Your Mind

Image result for acceleration rune the mortal instruments

A book I try not to think about at all is The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancy, the sequel to The 5th Wave. I really, really enjoyed The 5th Wave. I thought it was fun and action-packed, and so I was super excited to jump into the sequel…only to be utterly disappointed. I did not like this book at all and I try and block it out from my mind. There were multiple POVs in this book that I did enjoy reading from, and overall, the story felt stagnant.

Recall – Pick the First Book/Series You Read

The first book series I remember the most vividly that I read, would be Junie B Jones by Barbara Park. I borrowed them all from my older cousin and sometimes refused to give them back until I re-read them a couple of times. While I am not sure if I read all of them, I am certain I read a good chunk of the series and absolutely adored them. They lead me to read more little chapter books like Geronimo Stilton and The Magic Treehouse that eventually lead me to read the books I do today.

Friendship – Pick a Book/Series That Has an Awesome Friendship

Image result for friendship rune the mortal instruments

I have to go cliche with this one, and say the Golden Trio from Harry Potter by JK Rowling! They are different in many ways, making them unbeatable when they are together. When you think of an ideal friendship, you cannot help but think of Harry, Hermione and Ron.

Surefooted – Pick a Confident Character from a Book/Series

Image result for surefooted rune

Who else can I say but Jace from The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare? Jace is such a cocky, arrogant character, but you can’t help but be head over heels for him because he does mean well. He knows people look at him in awe and drool as he walks by, and honestly, who can blame them?

Insight/Foresight – Pick a Book/Series with a Predictable Ending

Image result for insight rune the mortal instruments

It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing that this ending was predictable, but still, it was pretty obvious. The ending I am talking about is the one for The Selection by Kiera Cass because we all knew what was going to happen. I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t picked up these books, but the cover of the third book also gave it away so…

Waterproof – Pick a Book/Series That Everyone Else but You Cried While Reading

Image result for waterproof shadowhunter rune

The Fault and Our Stars by John Green hands down! I liked the story to an extent, but I felt no emotional attachment to the characters so I didn’t cry…at all. As a matter of fact, during the movie, I forced myself to cry just so people wouldn’t think I was a monster with a black hole where my heart should be! Now, I realize not that many people cried during it either.

Power – Pick a Book/Series That Has a Powerful Message

Image result for power rune

There is a lot of hype over the TV series at the moment so I thought this would be a suitable choice, and that is Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I thought that this story holds a very important message that more people should be aware of. People need to watch out for signs from loved ones, or even the people around them, of suicide and realize it is not a joke. While I do believe the idea of suicide in Thirteen Reasons Why is a bit romanticized, I am glad that it is becoming a jumping point for more conversations and awareness around suicide.

That is all for my Shadowhunter Runes Tag, and if you want to do it than I tag you! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Spring/Summer 2017 TBR

Unpopular Book Opinions!

This book tag was originally created by TheBookArcher on YouTube, and it looked like a lot of fun so I decided to do it!

  1. A Popular Book or Series You Didn’t Like

Twilight by Stephanie Meyers…I didn’t hate the first book but I could not get into it whatsoever. I read the first hundred or so pages, but then skimmed the rest and the only reason I know what happens is because I have seen the movies, which honestly, I prefer over the books.

2. A Popular Book or Series that Everyone Else Seems to Hate but You Love

I wouldn’t necessarily say everyone hates it, but there is controversy surrounding this trilogy and that is The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy by Jenny Han. It is very cliché, and I do see its flaws, but overall I really enjoyed it and can see myself re reading it in the future!

3. A Love Triangle Where the Main Character Ended Up with the Person You Did NOT Want Them to End Up with, or an OTP You Don’t Like

I am going to go with an OTP I don’t like, and if you haven’t read Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare, you might not want to read this, but it isn’t that big of a spoiler. For this I am going to have to say Mark Blackthorn and Kieran because I do not like Kieran. I think Mark deserves SO much better and while Kieran does have his moments, he did something that I will never, ever forgive him for.

4. A Popular Book Genre That You Hardly Reach For

I do have a few books of this genre, but I hardly ever reach for it on my own, and that is sci-fi. I do have the first two books in the 5th Wave trilogy by Rick Yancy, and also the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, but other than that I don’t really read to much sci-fi.

5. A Popular or Beloved Character that You Do Not Like

Hmm…okay a popular character I don’t like that everyone else seems to is Lissa from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Lissa is portrayed as a very sweet character, but I found her very, very annoying at times.

 6. A Popular Author that You Can’t Seem to Get Into

John Green! I have read three of his books and I mean, they were okay, but I don’t think I will pick up anything else of his. I just find his stories are all the same and his writing just isn’t for me!

7. A Popular Book Trope That You Are Tired of Seeing

Hmm, there are a lot but I am going to have to say the “I really like them but I am not good for them” book trope because ugh, it is so aggravating. If you like the person don’t push them away! Even if you think you are “bad” for them, they probably won’t care if they also like you.

8. A Popular Book Series That You Have No Interest in Reading

Okay, so I am not going to say I will never read this because I am sure eventually I will, but at the moment I have no desire to read Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman…I am sure it is amazing, from what I have heard, but at the moment it just doesn’t sound like something I would be into, but possibly sometime in the future!

9. The Saying Goes “The Book is Always Better than the Movie” but What Movie or TV Show Adaptation Do You Prefer Over the Book?

For this I am going to have to go with, hands down, The Maze Runner by James Dashner. I enjoyed the movie (both of them) way, way more than the books. I found the books very plain and not very captivating, but I thought the movies were pretty good!

Those are my answers for the Unpopular Opinions Book Tag and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Reading/Writing Update!

NaNoWriMo and Reading Update!

So I haven’t written anything for NaNoWriMo this week…I am so mad at myself for not finding the time to actually sit down and write this week but just so much has been going on! I’m not going to give up though, I can write 10,000 in 2 days, right? Anyways, I am going to try and catch up as much as I can this weekend and I am going to try my hardest to write everyday.

For reading, I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and I am about 100 pages in. Again, haven’t had much time for reading either because I’ve been crazy busy but I’m trying. I also tried reading The Last Star by Rick Yancy but I really wasn’t feeling it so I put it down and maybe I’ll pick it up again in a few months. I also tried reading The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson and this is my first Jandy Nelson book ever but I didn’t really find the story that interesting and I got bored reading it. I still want to give I’ll Give You the Sun a try though because I have heard nothing but great things! Anyways, this week was an epic reading and writing fail so I am hoping I will be able to pick things back up this weekend, so fingers crossed.

That’s all for my NaNoWriMo and Reading Update and I hope you enjoyed it 🙂

November 2016 TBR!!!

November is right around the corner which also means NaNoWriMo! Since my November will be occupied by writing at least 1,667 words a day, I have low reading standards for this month. I do have 3 books I would like to finish by the end of the month though, and 2 of them are quite lengthy so fingers crossed I get them done!

The Last Star by Rick Yancy – This is the finale to the 5th Wave trilogy which is pretty amazing I must say. While I didn’t love the second book, I have high expectations for this book and I hope it is up to my satisfaction! The first book follows a girl named Cassie who after an alien apocalypse breaks out, struggles to be reunited with her brother after he is taken by the government and brought to a safe haven for kids.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas – I am already half way through this book but for some reason I put it down and haven’t picked it up since! So far this book is so so good and I cannot wait to finish it! The first book, A Court of Thorns and Roses, is about a girl named Feyre who is brought to a magical faerie land in payment after killing a wolf in the forest who turned out to be a faerie. A whole lot of other crazy, steamy stuff happens and it is just pure amazingness.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling – I am so happy I decided to re read the Harry Potter books because they are just entertaining and great. Since it is November, I am re reading the 5th one which also happens to be the largest of the 7. Perfect considering I am focusing most of my time on NaNoWriMo this month…But anyways I am super excited to continue on with fantastic world!

Those are the 3 books I am hoping to complete in the month of November! Don’t forget to comment your TBR below because I would love to know what you’re reading as well 🙂

Weekly Library Haul

I went to the library quite a bit this week and got some really awesome books that I am super excited to read!

The Last Star by Rick Yancy – I absolutely loved The 5th Wave which is the first book in this trilogy and I have heard really good things about this finale so I have some high expectations for this book! The first book takes place when an alien apocalypse has began and the main character Cassie is struggling to find her brother after he was taken to a ‘safe haven’ by the government. I really really recommend the first book and I am so excited to finally get a chance to read the final book!

To All the Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han – I cannot believe I haven’t read a Jenny Han book yet…but now I am going to change that because I officially will be hopefully one this month! I don’t have too much of an idea of what it is about but I am going to take a wild guess and say that the main character writes letters to all the boys she loved before…Anyways, I am really pumped to read this because I love contemporaries!

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen – Yes, I got another Sarah Dessen book because I just love them so much! I find that I read them super fast because I just cannot put them down. Not sure what it is about but I am sure like all of Sarah Dessen’s books it won’t disappoint me.

Those are all the books I got at the library and I hope you enjoyed this little blog post!

Book Buying List

There are a few books that I have been eyeing for a while so here is a list of the few that I want the most and will probably get soon! Comment down below if you like Sarah J Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses series or her Throne of Glass series more…I like A Court of Thorns and Roses a teeny bit more. Also, don’t forget to check out my last post: Reading Routine!

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah Maas – I finished A Court of Thorns and Roses about 2 weeks ago and LOVED it so I am really excited to pick the next one up! I have heard amazing things and its huge so that is even better.

The Last Star by Rick Yancy – I really liked the first book in this sci-fi trilogy, The 5th Wave, and while the second book was meh I am really pumped to pick up the final book! I am really curious to see how everything wraps up and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson – I read this book earlier this summer and absolutely adored it but I borrowed it from the library so I don’t have my own copy. Since I enjoyed it so much though, I am really looking forward to purchasing my own so I can read it whenever!

Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas – I have read the first 3 books in the Throne of Glass series but I have yet to pick up the second one. I want to soon though because the fifth and final book of this series is coming out this coming September and I want to read the fourth one before the final one comes out!!!

Those are a few of the books I want to buy the most and I hope you liked it! I won’t be posting tomorrow just because it is my birthday (yay) but I will be back with another on Wednesday!

Book Recommendations!!!

This book recommendations blog post will be a bit different then others because I will be recommending the books in a different way. This is inspired by Sasha Alsberg’s (abookutopia on YouTube) recommendation video “If you like this book then you’ll like this book.” Confusing? You’ll understand if you read the recommendations below!

If you like Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi then you will like Legend by Marie Lu. These two trilogies are both dystopian and have a similar feel to them, plus they are just amazing books and you will devour each and every one of them!

If you like Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell then you will like Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Again, these are the same genre (contemporary) but they are quite different yet there is a resemblance to the other. I love both these books so much and I know you all will too!

If you like Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas than you will like Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. These are both amazing fantasy books that will captivate you from the beginning! It takes me a bit to get into fantasy like this but once I did I could not put it down!

If you like Twilight by Stephanie Meyer than you will LOVE Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I recently just finished the Vampire Academy series and it is amazing! And obviously if you like Twilight you will like Vampire Academy because they both have the same feel to them!

If you like The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy you will like Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout. These are both sci fi books that I personally adore and everyone else who reads them seems to love them as well so…Read them!!!

Those are a few recommendations and I hope you liked them!

Sci-fi Book Recommendations!

Since for Camp NaNoWriMo I am writing a YA sci-fi book I thought I would give you guys some awesome alien based book recommendations that I think are amazing and I am sure you will to! Comment below your favourtie sci-fi book! Mine is either the 5th Wave or Obsidian…

Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout is a sort of supernatural/romance series that I really love and I know you will too. Her books are just extremely easy to get into and enjoy which I really appreciate. This series is about a girl named Katy, who after her dad died, she and her mom moved away to get a fresh start. One thing she doesn’t realize though is she moved next to two twin aliens…

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy is an amazing sci-fi book about a girl named Cassie who is trying to survive during an alien apocalypse. Aliens have come down to earth because they want to inhabit it which means nobody is safe. I loved this book and while the second one let me down the first one totally cancels it out just because of how fantastic it is.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer is a very interesting and different series that I absolutely adore. Each book is a loosely based on a fairy tale with a sci-fi twist. The books are so rich, interesting and detailed and you all need to read it! The first book does start off a bit slow but once you get into it you will not want to stop.

Those are a few sci-fi book recommendations and I hope you liked this post 🙂 Remember, comment down below if you have any post ideas for me because I would love to know what you guys want!
