It is December, which means a lot more reading time! I am so excited to get through my TBR, and I am pretty proud of what I have gotten read so far. My current read is The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han, a summer contemporary I have mentioned quite a bit on my blog, and I am just over halfway done. Since it is such a short and fun read, I plan on finishing the rest today and then jumping into the second book, It’s Not Summer Without You. Usually I prefer to read fantasy during the winter, but for the last few months I have been in a contemporary kick and it doesn’t look like it will be going away any time soon. I did put a few fantasy and darker books on my TBR for December though, so hopefully I will get to those this month as well.
Friday was hectic day because it was the last day to enter an essay contest I had been prepping for for the last two weeks. I do regret putting off the actual writing part for so long, because I was racing against the clock and ended up submitting it only thirty minutes before the deadline…however I do think I produce better content when on a tight deadline and I was really proud with my finished product! I don’t think I will win, but it was nice writing out of my comfort zone and writing an essay rather than a fiction piece.
That is all for my reading and writing update, and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: December 2017 TBR!
Okay so let’s start off with some good news…I read 2 books this week! I decided I needed a break from fantasy and decided to pick up and re read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. This is one of my favourite books, and favourite trilogies, and I picked it up because I was really in need of reading a light hearted and fluffy novel. I started it on Wednesday and since then have already finished the first two books. Now I am re reading the third and final installment and I haven’t actually re read this one yet. This will be the first re read which makes me excited because I forget what happens exactly. Anyways, I love these books and Jenny Han’s writing so I know that this was the right choice. Hopefully I will finish Always and Forever, Lara Jean today and after that I am not entirely sure what I will pick up next…but we will see!
Now for NaNoWriMo…so I am at about 18,000 words and I will sadly not be continuing with it. It has been so hard for me to not find time to write, but find the motivation to write because just after writing a few hundred words, I would feel drained. I decided it would be best for me not to continue on with NaNoWriMo, because I also do not feel like my story is “novel ready”. I need to let it mull around in my head for a bit before I write it down on paper, and honestly, I have no idea when that will be. However, I am still writing. I am still writing short stories, and even some essays which I haven’t done much for my own enjoyment. Anyways, I hope that all of your NaNoWriMo journeys are going well but if not, don’t worry because you are not alone!

I have about 100 pages left of Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare, and I am determined to finish it before the weekend is over…or at least before the end of October next week. One thing I really want to do is have a mini readathon tomorrow, being Sunday, a day where I plan on having absolutely NO plans. All I want to do is sit down and finish Clockwork Angel and then jump into the next book, Clockwork Prince. Lately reading has been on the back burner, but not reading makes me so sad because all I see in my bedroom are unread, unhappy books! I really want reading to be a high priority for me, especially when I get really busy with other things because it is one of the best stress relievers.
Currently I am taking a creative writing class, and I am really enjoying it! So far I have only done a few little assignments, but it has been really interesting to see how a creative writing class is formatted and laid out since I have never taken one before. I am also scrambling to finish prepping for NaNoWriMo because it starts in 4 days! Can you believe it? I have an idea mapped out but I am still working out the plot points and some other fine detailing…fingers crossed I will be ready for Wednesday. I am also looking forward to hopefully attending a few NaNoWriMo Write-Ins at my local library, but we will see if time allows. I would love to connect with other Wrimos and just talking about NaNoWriMo has me so excited.
That is all for my reading and writing update and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: November 2017 TBR…as well as all my NaNoWriMo Prep posts!
This past week was a busy week of traveling, which meant a lot of ridiculously early mornings and late nights…so not a lot of time for reading. However, I did read about 100 more pages of Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare so I am just over half way done! I am really enjoying this re read and cannot wait to continue on with re reading the trilogy. The setting in these books is so dark and autumnal and gets me in the perfect mood for fall!
Yesterday was a very inspirational and motivational day in regards to writing, and that is because I attended a writing conference for the day! It was 8 hours of connecting with other writers (even quite a few young writers my age which was great!) and learning some tips from published authors. I attended this conference last year, but have to say that this was year was 10x better! I was able to attend due to their generous scholarship, as well as some of my other writing friends, and am hoping to attend next year as well. If any of you have the means and opportunity to go to a writing conference, I highly recommend you do everything you can to try!
That is all for this reading and writing update, and I hope you enjoyed. Sorry for no blog post Thursday, I was traveling all week and couldn’t find the time to write it…however I will be back on Monday with the second last NaNoWriMo Prep post!
It has been quite a few years since I have read The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare, and I forgot how much I enjoyed it! Everything from the story line to the setting (because London in the 1800s!) to the characters, it is all great. Even though I was originally planning on only rereading the first book, I think I will end up continuing with the rest of the trilogy. I also really would like to reread The Selection by Kiera Cass, because I am in the need of light, fluffy and addictive read and The Selection is the perfect option.
NaNoWriMo is arriving at a rapid speed and I still haven’t decided on an idea yet! I have a few ideas swirling around in my head, but I need to dedicate a few hours to really think about what I want to write and then plan it out. November is going to be a busy month between school, volunteering and NaNoWriMo, but hopefully I will be able to achieve 50k words! Next week is my writing conference though, so hopefully I will learn a lot of new things and get inspired to write for NaNoWriMo. Last year I took a lot away from this conference so I am excited to see how it goes this year!
That is all for my quick reading and writing update, and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Fantasy Recommendations for Fall/Winter!
So far I have completed the grand total of one book this month…and today is the last day of the month. However, I have been able to read 150 pages of Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier which is a lot for me lately. I did really want to finish this book before the end of September, but it just means I will be able to finish it early October and get on with my TBR. Since it is Saturday and I am somewhat caught up on sleep, my goal is to read at least 80 more pages of Ruby Red. It is dark and cold outside which is perfect reading weather, and I am feeling the excitement to read!
Writing wise, I haven’t done much new writing this week. I did sign up for a creative writing course which I am now enrolled in, and I did win a writing scholarship to a writing conference! I am really excited to have the opportunity to attend this conference and I know it will be a blast!

I have completed a book!!! After about an odd, irregular month of not really reading, and finishing NO books, I have finished a book. That book is Geekerella by Ashley Poston, a fun, geeky, and relatable contemporary following two different characters, Elle, a passionate fan of a sci-fi TV called Starfield, and Darien, a teenage actor who is casted as the main character in the new Starfield revamp. Overall I really enjoyed this book! I thought it was cute, fast paced and just what I needed to pull myself out of my reading slump. I do think I would have liked it more if I read it while I wasn’t in a reading slump, but I did enjoy it. To hear more of my thoughts on this book, stay tuned for my September 2017 Wrap Up which will hopefully consist of more than one book! Right now, I am about two chapters into my next read, which is Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier. I have read this book about 3 times already…but honestly I think it is the perfect fall read! Anyways, I hopefully will finish that in the next 7 or so days but I am looking forward to re-immersing myself in this world.
Writing time! So I submitted a short story to this writing conference, where the prize is a scholarship that pays for my ticket to go there. I am really hoping I win (obviously), and I will find out on September 30th so fingers crossed. Other than that, I really need to start on my other story for this other writing contest, which has a deadline of October 1st and a maximum word count of 17,000 words…so yeah I need to get started.
That is all for my reading/writing update and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: October TBR 2017!
Geekerella by Ashley Poston is still my current read, and while I still haven’t made too much progress in it, I am still really enjoying it! I am about a quarter of the way through but I plan on finishing it by Monday because I have an extra day off of school thankfully. Before this year, I had always been busy but easily managed to stay on top of my blog, reading and school, but this year I am really struggling! Sadly, I have to cut down my blog posts to Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, rather than Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. It is also really sad to look back at last year and see that my average reading a month was anywhere from 3-5 books, and now my average is 1 or less. Hopefully by October I will be able to juggle everything better, but for now this is my current situation. Anyways, back to the reading part of this update, like I said, I want to finish Geekerella by Monday and then jump into one of the other books on my TBR!
Thankfully I have been writing lately, and even submitted to a contest last night which I am very excited about! I have another deadline that is the first day of October that I need to meet, so this weekend and the next coming weeks I will be writing a story for that. This month will be an active writing month and I cannot wait to get back into more writing!
That is all for my reading/writing update and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Favourite Fall Films and also leave some suggestions of blog posts you want to see!
Slowly I am getting back into the swing of things and it feels so good honestly. This morning a read about 30 pages of Geekerella by Ashley Poston, which I am very much enjoying at the moment, and have no doubt that I will keep enjoying it. Fingers crossed I can finish it by the end of the weekend, but we will see! Once I finish Geekerella, I plan on picking up The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger by Stephen King, which is the first book in The Dark Tower series. I watched the movie and really liked the storyline and the entire atmosphere of the movie because it was unlike anything I have watched. My friend, who has read the first book, said the book was way better than the movie so I knew I had to pick it up and give it a read. This will be my first Stephen King book and I am so excited and curious to see how I like it!
Finally I have writing things to update on! I mean, I haven’t actually written anything yet, but I have some stories lined up to submit to different contests. I am really excited to start writing again, but after not writing for a few weeks it will be a challenge to come up and write 7 different stories all of the sudden! All of the deadlines are between now and the end of October, but some of those deadlines are approaching very fast so I need to get started.
That is all for my reading/writing update and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: My New and Improved September TBR!
Sadly this week hasn’t been as eventful reading wise as July was, but good things come in time right? Anyways, at the moment I am reading City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare which is the fourth book in The Mortal Instruments series. A lot of people say that this is their least favourite book in the series, but I don’t mind it and am hoping that I fly through it and finish it by tomorrow. Once I finish this book, I plan on jumping into The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen which I am excited for because if you saw my July 2017 Wrap Up, I read Once and For All by Sarah Dessen and enjoyed it, so fingers crossed I enjoy this one too!
Writing…ah writing. I was so determined at the beginning of the month, and still am, but things have drastically changed. I am still in love with my idea, but I am not in the right place to write it right now…I am super busy and need to plan a lot more than what I initially did. I plan on outlining my book throughout August and then finally when I finish that, I will rewrite my book.
