Important Books to Me

We all have that book or books that have impacted our lives in a way we won’t ever forget. It may have made you aware of something you weren’t before or just opened your eyes to the type of books you love to read. Here are a few that have done this too me and I hope you enjoy!

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan – This was the first thicker novel that I read and it completely changed who I was as a person when I was younger. I wasn’t a huge reader until the age of 10 and once I read this book it made me love to read. I watched the movie for the first time and fell in love with the characters, the plot and the fun action of it. For years I wouldn’t read anything but this series and now it has opened my eyes up to so many new books that I love! I really owe my entire love for reading to Rick Riordan and Percy Jackson.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare – I believe I read this book 3 years ago and again, after the first few chapters I absolutely fell in love! I sat on the couch for an entire week and just binge read this series non stop. There is nothing negative I can say about this series just because I adore it that much. No, it is not perfect but it came to me in a point of my life when I needed something like this to entertain me. I can still read this series multiple times without getting bored, that’s how much it means to me!

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins – This impacted me in a way different than the first 2 books. This book just simply made me fall in love with the contemporary genre and also introduced me to some amazing characters. I think contemporary is a fantastic genre and most of the time, it is something we can all relate to in some way. This showed me that I am not alone when I have an awkward encounter at school and I think that is really important to realize.

Those are 3 books have really impacted my life and shaped me to be the person and reader I am today! Make sure to comment any books that have impacted your life because I would love to know 🙂

BookTube-A-Thon TBR 2016

Today is the first day of the BookTube-A-Thon, and while I don’t have a YouTube channel I am still going to try and complete the reading challenges. I will also be participating in the Instagram challenges and Twitter sprints so I am very excited for those as well! So yeah, here are the books I will be reading this week!

Challenge #1 – Read a book with yellow on the cover – For this challenge I will be reading Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson because I want to read another Morgan Matson book and this one had yellow on the cover so it worked out. This book is about a girl named Amy who’s father recently died so her and her family move  from California to Connecticut to have a fresh start. To get there though, she has to go on a four day road trip with an old family friend named Roger who has a past of his own. So far I am really liking this book and I can’t wait to finish it!

Challenge #2 – Read a book after sunset – I will be reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling for this challenge and I am SO excited to be re reading this book. I just love the feeling when I read Harry Potter so I am glad I have an excuse to pick it up again.

Challenge #3 – Read a book you discovered through BookTube – For this one, I will be reading Champion by Marie Lu because I did hear about the Legend trilogy through BookTube and since I need to read the last book I decided to add it in here! If you didn’t know, the Legend series takes place in a futuristic version of the USA called the Republic, and the story follows a boy named Day who is a convicted criminal and a girl named June who is beloved by the Republic. When June’s brother is killed one day, all signs point to Day so she goes on a mission to hunt him down. When she does find him, she realizes he may not be the criminal everyone says he is, and he shows her the Republic isn’t as trustworthy and great as she thought it was.

Challenge #4 – Read a book by a favourite author of yours – I will be reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan for this challenge, because he is definitely one of my favourite authors. The Percy Jackson series was one of the first series I read so I have a sentimental love for it. That and his books are so much fun to read. Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is about a boy named Percy who discovers that he is a demigod which means he is half human half Greek God. Because of this, he is escorted to a “safe haven” for demigods called Camp Half Blood but immediately finds out he is being convicted of stealing Zeus’s Master Bolt. So he and 2 other friends go on a quest to find out who actually stole it and clear Percy’s name.

Challenge #5 – Read a book that is older than you – Since you can combine challenges I will be combining this challenge with number 3 and 6 so I will be reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone since it is older than me.

Challenge #6 – Read and watch a book-to-movie adaptation – Surprise! I will also being reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for this challenge.

Hope you enjoyed this TBR for this week, and I really hope I can get through them all!

Top 5 Least Favourite Book-to-Movie Adaptations

Hey guys! I just wanted to say that these are just my own personal opinions so please don’t take it too seriously! Comment some of your least favourite book-to-movie adaptations!

The Fault in Our Stars – I am okay with this movie, but I was a bit disappointed with this movie. The book wasn’t my favourite either but I was really hoping the movie would be much better just because they had AMAZING actors but what can you do 🙂

Insurgent – I loved Divergent but Insurgent was kind of boring in my opinion. I am able to watch it from time to time but when I went watched it in the theatres I actually fell asleep oops…

Beautiful Creatures – I haven’t read this book but I don’t think I will just because the movie was pretty bad and kind of tainted any good review I had on it. The acting was just really weird, and the effects were kind of bad…I’m sure the books are better though!

Eclipse – I really enjoyed Twilight the most out of these and enjoyed Eclipse the least…I just felt that nothing really happened and it was a bit of an annoying movie honestly…

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief – I think we can all agree that this was a pretty terrible book-to-movie adaptation but the actors were really good. I actually enjoy watching this movie every once and a while but I have to make sure I separate it from the books.

Those are a few of my least favourite book-to-movie adaptations. Please no hate these are just my personal opinions and honestly I don’t hate any of these! I just don’t like them as much as others.

Top 5 Favourite Authors

There are many amazing authors but I wanted to narrow my long list to my top 5 favourite and why! Don’t forget to check out my recent blog posts! 🙂

  1. Cassandra Clare. She is my all time favourite author just because I love her writing style, her stories, and all her characters. Every book she has written I have loved, and I am so happy that she is coming out with more and more books. Her books have impacted me so much, and I fell in love with them from the first word!
  2. Rick Riordan. His Percy Jackson and the Olympians series was the first book series I read (that was over 100 pages) and loved. His writing got me obsessed with reading so I will always have a sentimental love towards his books. That, and his writing style is hilarious along with his characters. Again, I am obsessed with all his books and anything related to them. And I am so excited to finally be meeting him on his Hammer of Thor tour! Ugh, a dream come true!!!
  3. JK Rowling. Obviously I had to add her in here because her books are amazing! I love Harry Potter just because it is so detailed and wonderful and how could you not like it! I really wish she would write a series about the Harry’s parents and their life at Hogwarts because that would be AWESOME!!!
  4. Tahereh Mafi. Her writing is just so beautiful and she has a talent for making her characters feel so real. I absolutely adore her Shatter Me trilogy and cannot wait for her new book Futhermore to come out!
  5. Stephanie Perkins. I wanted to add a contemporary author and because I am obsessed with all of her books I thought I would put Stephanie Perkins! Her books are just so relatable and great and cute and ugh, I want all the relationships in them.

Those are my top 5 favourite authors and I hope you liked this post!

How To: Find the Perfect Book

It can be difficult to find the ‘perfect’ book that just makes you want to keep reading forever but it isn’t impossible! Finding the perfect book can set you on a journey filled with books and reading which is an amazing thing. I like to think that everyone likes to read, but if they don’t it’s just because they haven’t found the right book to get them started. Which is why I made this post!

Step 1 to finding the perfect book:

Experiment. Maybe read a few chapters of a few books and get a feel for what genre you like. Some books I recommend for this stage is Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi and Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. These are just some amazing books that are easy to get into and get you hooked on reading!

Step 2 to find the perfect book:

Find the right place and time. Finding the right time and place to read is extremely important. For instance, I prefer and get most of my reading done at night because I am less distracted and can focus more on my book. The place I also prefer to read in is my bed or couch in my bedroom. All these things contribute to finding the perfect book.

Step 3 to finding the perfect book:

Read it. Now it is time to read the book! You have found a book to give a go, the perfect place, perfect time so now it is time to see if you like the book!

Step 4 to finding the perfect book:

Now, once you have read the book you decide whether or not you liked or disliked it, or maybe you just thought it was okay. If you didn’t love it, or at least really enjoy then repeat step 1 and pick another book! Don’t give up so easily, just keep trying to find the right book. Maybe even switch reading places or times. Just do whatever feels right.

Step 5 to finding the perfect book:

Talk about it. Hopefully by now you have read a book you really liked or hopefully love. One of the best things to do after you finish reading an amazing book is discuss it with other people who liked the book as well. There are 2 different ways to do this. If you have friends that read the same books as you you can talk about it with them or you can go onto the internet. Social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram and Goodreads are great place to discuss different fandoms with people! If you need an account to talk to get started check out my fandom account on Instagram! @chasing_jace

Hope you enjoyed this How To: Find the Perfect Book tutorial!

Series to Binge Read

We all love those series that you can just sit down, read, finish the book, and then continue on with the series without getting up…well obviously you get up at some point but you don’t want to. For this post, I will be telling you guys some series that you will start and not want to stop.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – I am currently reading this series and I am loving it! I am on the third book and I never want to put them down. It is about two girls, Rose Hathaway who is a dhampir (protects vampires) and Lisa Dragomir who is a royal Moroi (vampire) and their life at St. Vladamir’s. The books follow them as they face enemies while trying to maintain a decent image. This is a good series to binge read because there are six books in total, Vampire Academy, Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise, Spirit Bound and Last Sacrifice. Go! Read them!

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan – This series is such a fun and easy series to binge read so if you haven’t read these please go now and read them! These books are about a boy named Percy Jackson who discovers he is the son of a Greek god and how he has to learn to live with that because that isn’t a small feat. There are five books in the series and I love all of them. The Lightning Thief, Sea of Monsters, Titan’s Curse, Battle of the Labyrinth and Last Olympian. A totally easy binge read!

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass – There are now 5 books in this series (The Selection, The Elite, The One, The Heir, The Crown) and they are just so easy to read. I read the first 3 books in one sitting because I was absolutely hooked. I really recommend this as a binge reading series.

Lux Series by Jennifer L Armentrout – Again, there are five books in this series (Obsidian, Onyx, Opal, Origin and Opposition) and they are really interesting! My favourite is probably the first book but all the books are very good. Please read this series if you haven’t yet!

The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan Non-Spoiler Review

I just finished The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan today which is the first book his new book series so I decided to do a non-spoiler book review!

The Hidden Oracle is about the god Apollo, who is cast down to Earth by Zeus after angering him. The problem is that he has no godly powers and he is ordinary and utterly normal. At the same time something evil is on the horizon and Apollo has to learn to use what he has to stop it along with a few other companions. We even get to see some of the characters from his previous series!

I was really excited to start this book because I love all of Rick Riordan’s books. I have to admit I was a bit nervous that it wasn’t going to meet my expectations but I really enjoyed this book! There were slow parts but it is the first book in a new series so I didn’t really mind. It was so great seeing the old characters but I also loved meeting the new characters and getting to know a few better. Another bonus was that there was a lot of diversity in this book which I thought was great and I hope more authors add more diverse characters in their books. I think overall I would give this book a 4/5 stars just because while I enjoyed it, it wasn’t the strongest book ever. I would still recommend it to middle grade readers or anyone who loves his other series!

Top 10 Favourite Male Characters

I have read so many books with amazing characters in them so in this blog post I will be sharing with all of you my top 10 favourite male characters! (Check out my last blog post!)

10. Harry Potter from Harry Potter is number 10 on my list. He is just a super strong character, having lost all his blood related family and being the ‘chosen one’ and I just had to fit him somewhere on this list obviously.

9. Prince Maxon from The Selection is number 9 and you are probably wondering why I put him before Harry and that is because just for some reason I love Maxon so much. He is sweet, sensitive and caring and he puts up with all of America’s stubbornness.

8. Daemon Black from the Lux series is number 8 on my list and here is why: he is gorgeous. He is smoking and he always comes back with snarky remarks that make me melt.

7. Cricket Bell from Lola and the Boy Next Door is number 7 because Cricket is just so god damn nice and awkward and funny. I love him so much but it was still a really hard decision between him and Etienne but ugh Cricket is amazing and adorable.

6. Peeta Mellark from the Hunger Games is number 6 on this list because he is so nice and is always looking out for Katniss. He brings out the softer side in Katniss and for that I salute him.

5. Percy Jackson from Percy Jackson and the Olympians is number 5 because of his persassy skills. Percy was my first fictional crush and I just love his sass so he obviously made the list.

4. Leo Valdez from the Heroes of Olympus series is number 4 because all the ladies love Leo. Leo is the odd one out but he is so funny and he needs someone to love him (sorry Calypso) so I will happily take the job up.

3. Mark Blackthorn from Lady Midnight is number 3 and I don’t know why I love him so much! Well maybe its because he is handsome and hilarious…yeah. But I just loved reading about Mark in Lady Midnight and I cannot wait to see more, even if he can get a little…weird.

2. Julian Blackthorn from Lady Midnight…yeah another Cassandra Clare character but can you blame me?! So Julian may have some ‘fire’ inside him where he can get really overprotective and scary over the people he loves but that makes me love him more. Julian is just my bae honestly.

  1. Jace Herondale from The Mortal Instruments takes home the grand prize of being number 1 and I KNOW another Cassandra Clare character but I just love him. He’s sarcastic, sweet, hot and ugh he’s amazing.

So those are my top 10 favourite male characters and I AM SORRY for the last 3 being from just Cassie’s books but I can’t help it if she writes beautiful characters so easily. It was hard taking Will Herondale off the list…it was.
