Audiobook Recommendations!

Hello! I am back after my two day hiatus after the busyness that was the winter Biannual Bibliothon. While it was loads of fun, it was a little draining but over the weekend I recharged and am ready to blog! Lately I have been listening to a lot of audiobooks, I think I listened to about 4 this past week, and have been loving them, so I decided to share a few audiobook recommendations with you guys and some tips if you are just starting out. I hope you enjoy!

Audiobook Tips for Beginners:

  1. Choose An Audiobook That You’ve Read the Physical Book Of – When it comes to your first few audiobooks, I find that it is a lot easier to ease into the world of audiobooks when you listen to a book you have already read. When adjusting to audiobooks, it can be difficult to retain all the info you hear while listening to the story, so my advice is to start of listening to a favourite book of yours!
  2. Free Audiobooks! – If you aren’t sure if you will like audiobooks, try borrowing them from your library. And I don’t mean borrowing the 30+ disk set, but borrowing from their online selection. Lots of libraries have links on their websites to online libraries where if you use your library card, you can electronically borrow books and audiobooks on your phone or computer, and they are free!
  3. Don’t Waste Audiobook Time – There are so many times throughout the day when you could be listening to an audiobook. So instead of watching mindless YouTube videos while getting ready, press play on an audiobook! You can also listen to them while walking around, driving, doing mindless tasks, etc, etc. Don’t waste perfectly good audiobook time!

Now for my audiobook recommendations!

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Not only do I recommend this physical book, but the ebook is so much fun! I get the exact same feel as I do when I physically read it, and listening to the book come alive just brings so much more to the story. This is one I am actually currently listening to, and it is nice to discover the world of Fangirl in a different medium.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan

I don’t have a specific book recommendation for this one, but really any of this series would be amazing on audio. I have only listened to the fourth in full, and snippets of some of the others but listening to the fourth was a blast, and the person who voiced it did a great job of giving each character a different voice and making the journey so much more fun!

The Selection by Kiera Cass

Listening to The One on audiobook was really good, I felt the tension between the characters and really felt the emotion I felt while reading the physical book, which is obviously what you want from an audiobook. While it did sound a little robotic, I quickly got over that and became so incredibly invested in the story. I can only imagine that the first book, The Selection, would be just as good!

Peter Pan by James M. Barrie

Really, I think that any children’s book would be magical in audiobook format. I listened to this book during the Biannual Bibliothon, and it was fun listening to Wendy, John, Michael and Peter’s adventures in Neverland. Again, it brought the story to life in a way like a movie would, and while I was walking around and listening to this book I would get so invested in the story I would wander around for hours. Also, it is really short (about 5 hours or so) so a perfect first audiobook!

Those are a few audiobook tips and recommendations for any of you considering giving audiobooks a try, or for any of you who just were in need of some more recommendations. I hope you enjoyed this, and make sure you check out my last blog posts: 2018 Biannual Bibliothon Day 7: Write a Book Recommendation + my Day 7 Reading Update!

2018 Biannual Bibliothon Day 3: Reading Update!

Hmm, so didn’t get as much reading done as I hoped, however I did finish listening to Peter Pan! I had just over an hour left so I went for a walk and finished it off. Overall I really enjoyed it and would recommend listening to it in audiobook format! As it neared the end, I got really invested in the story and had a blast listening to it. I also finished The One by Kiera Cass which I am happy yet sad about, because these books just are so fluffy and make me feel all warm inside. There was only 70 pages left so I flew through the last few pages in like 30 minutes, however I did listen to 3 chapters in audiobook format because while I was walking around, I finished Peter Pan a bit earlier than expected so I gave it a shot and really, really liked it! Once I finished The One, I did not pick up another book on my TBR because before the readathon, I was reading On Writing by Stephen King, and since I only had about 100 pages left, I decided to pick it up and quickly finish it since I am currently on track with the readathon! It is day 3 and I have successfully read 3 books. Tomorrow, I think I am going to pick up All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, for the challenge of reading a book you don’t know much about. I was going to pick up The Book Thief, however it doesn’t fit with any of the challenge I have left…if I have time at the end of the readathon I will read it though, otherwise I will start it once the readathon is over!

2018 Biannual Bibliothon Day 2: Reading Update!

Happy day 2 of the Biannual Bibliothon!

alejtr5u

So…today wasn’t as great of a reading day compared to yesterday, which sucks because I really wanted to get a lot of reading done today so I wouldn’t have to rush this coming week! Oh well, I am sure I will be able to finish my TBR for the readathon by Friday if I really try and also prioritize my time…yeah, prioritizing my time will be essential. Anyways, I did manage to read up to page 253 in The One by Kiera Cass, which means I read 223 pages of it today so that is still pretty good! I have 70 pages left of it so I have no doubt I will be able to finish it tomorrow, but I am sad though because I really will miss the story. Anyways, I also listened to a bit of my Peter Pan by James M Barrie audiobook today. I wanted to go for a long walk today to get a few hours logged in, but I wasn’t really feeling it so I just listened to it whenever I was getting ready, cleaning or just felt like it. Currently, I am 4 hours and 7 mins into it which means I have 1 hour and 8 minutes left. Again, I will easily be able to finish that tomorrow. I do think I will come back to the story of Peter Pan again since I am enjoying it so much, however I definitely want to read the physical book because I tend to space out really easily so I missed out on some details and story. Really enjoying it though! Once I finish these two books I don’t really know what I will pick out next…maybe Just Listen by Sarah Dessen? But I also want to start on All the Light We Cannot See or The Book Thief…hmm decisions.

Anyways, that is all for my day 2 reading update and I hope you too had a great reading day! Don’t forget to check out my blogging challenge for today: 2018 Biannual Bibliothon Day 2: My Bookish Drink as we as my day 1 reading update. Thanks and happy reading 🙂

2018 Biannual Bibliothon Day 1: Reading Update!

alejtr5u

So day 1 of the winter Biannual Bibliothon is done, and I am very proud with what I managed to read. I decided to start of with The Elite by Kiera Cass, which is the second book in The Selection series, and I easily finished it in one day. I started it just after midnight, read until about one thirty in the morning, and then finished it off in the earlier afternoon. Even though I have read this book a few times, I still cried…maybe even more than I did the first three or so times I read it. I just love these books because they are so fun and entertaining to read. Anyways, this means I completed the challenge #2 which was to read a sequel, so yay! I also read some of Peter Pan by James M Barrie for challenge #5&6 to read a book mentioned in another form of media, and to read a book under two hundred pages. I decided to try out the audiobook version and I am really enjoying it! I am not a big audiobook person because I have never really given them a shot, but listening to Peter Pan just brings the story to life so much more. The narrator is great, and I am already two hour and forty-three minutes in, which translates to page 78 and that is about half way through. However, it is only nine forty-three in the evening for me and while I do have some homework I need to do, I definitely will be reading some more tonight. Currently I am reading Peter Pan still, as well as The One by Kiera Cass, the third book in the selection series. I wasn’t planning on reading this book during the readathon, but I just have to finish it before I move on to my other books I had picked up. Anyways, I am thirty pages into it and my goal is to knock out maybe two hundred before I go to bed and at least another twenty or so pages of Peter Pan! Overall though, a very successful day!

Day 1 Reading Count:

Books Read: 1

Pages Read: 444

That is all for my day 1 reading update and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my post for the Biannual Bibliothon day 1 blogging challenge which was to create your snowy day reading list. I create a “Snowy Day Book Tag” where I share the books on my snowy day list 🙂

2018 Biannual Biblothon TBR!

Despite January being a busy school month, and the month I am jumping back into writing, I am determined to not pass up a perfectly good readathon, especially since I have an overall reading goal of 75 books this year…anyways, if you don’t know what the Biannual Bibliothon is, it is a week long readathon hosted by some amazing BookTubers, where readers from around the world participate in reading, video, blogging and social media challenges twice a year. The readathon will take place on Saturday, January 20th to Friday, January 26th and will be a lot of fun! There are seven reading challenges to choose books for, and here are all the books I plan on reading.

#1: Read the Group Book

The group book is a book that you can read if you want, and if you do you can participate in their live show held after the end of the readathon. I will not be reading the group book this year, but if you are interested they will be reading Otherworld by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller. I have no idea what it is about but I am sure it will be good!

#2: Read a Sequel

Image result for the elite

At first I was going to read Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare, but then I realized I was kidding myself thinking I could read this massive book (no matter how much I love it) during the few days of the readathon. Instead I decided to go with a shorter book that I haven’t read in a while, and that is The Elite by Kiera Cass. This is the second book The Selection series which is described as “The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games” which are two things I love so of course I am excited to re read the second book. 336 pages

#3: Read a Book You Never Heard of Before

All-the-light-we-cannot-see

I have heard of this book before, but I don’t really have any idea of what it is about so I decided it fits the guidelines enough, and that book is All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. I have heard this book is amazing so hopefully I can zip through it and I will love it just as much as everyone else does. 531 pages

#4: Read a Book About Mental Illness

Image result for just listen

My TBR was in desperate need of a contemporary to make this readathon a smoother process, and considering I read this book the first time in just a few hours, I think it is fitting to add to my TBR. Just Listen by Sarah Dessen is a fun and easy to read contemporary that does involve mental illness when the main character’s sister is diagnosed with an eating disorder. We watch at how this impacts the family and the main character, Annabelle, and how this affects her life. 371 pages

#5: Read a Book That Was Mentioned in Another Book/Movie/TV Show, etc

Image result for peter pan book

The trick to a readathon is picking short and quick books and that however, is something I haven’t really been doing…so I thought it would be smart and good for myself to choose a really short book and that is Peter Pan by James M Barrie. I have not read many classics, and since this is a short one I am hoping I will be able to get through it easily and then get encouraged to read more and more. I am really excited to read this book and I should be able to get through it in an hour or so! 176 pages

#6: Read a Book Under 200 Pages

Doubling up on challenges is also a smart thing to do with readathons, so I will also be reading Peter Pan for this challenge. It is a total of 176 pages which is obviously under 200 and I cannot wait to dive right into it!

#7: Read a Backlist Title

the-book-thief

For this challenge, you are supposed to read a book that was published before 2017 and I am thankful for this challenge because it doesn’t allow me to pick up a new release when I have so many unread books that have been sitting on my shelf since the beginning of time. Anyways, for this challenge, I will be reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak! I am really excited and fingers crossed I actually read it, because I know I will love it like everyone else does. 552 pages

So those are all the books I plan to read for the 2018 Biannual Bibliothon and if you are looking for anymore info on it click the words “2018 Biannual Bibliothon” because they are linked to their YouTube channel! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post “Readathon Recommedations” if you are in need of some smart and entertaining book recommendations 🙂
