Unpopular Book Opinions!

This book tag was originally created by TheBookArcher on YouTube, and it looked like a lot of fun so I decided to do it!

  1. A Popular Book or Series You Didn’t Like

Twilight by Stephanie Meyers…I didn’t hate the first book but I could not get into it whatsoever. I read the first hundred or so pages, but then skimmed the rest and the only reason I know what happens is because I have seen the movies, which honestly, I prefer over the books.

2. A Popular Book or Series that Everyone Else Seems to Hate but You Love

I wouldn’t necessarily say everyone hates it, but there is controversy surrounding this trilogy and that is The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy by Jenny Han. It is very cliché, and I do see its flaws, but overall I really enjoyed it and can see myself re reading it in the future!

3. A Love Triangle Where the Main Character Ended Up with the Person You Did NOT Want Them to End Up with, or an OTP You Don’t Like

I am going to go with an OTP I don’t like, and if you haven’t read Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare, you might not want to read this, but it isn’t that big of a spoiler. For this I am going to have to say Mark Blackthorn and Kieran because I do not like Kieran. I think Mark deserves SO much better and while Kieran does have his moments, he did something that I will never, ever forgive him for.

4. A Popular Book Genre That You Hardly Reach For

I do have a few books of this genre, but I hardly ever reach for it on my own, and that is sci-fi. I do have the first two books in the 5th Wave trilogy by Rick Yancy, and also the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, but other than that I don’t really read to much sci-fi.

5. A Popular or Beloved Character that You Do Not Like

Hmm…okay a popular character I don’t like that everyone else seems to is Lissa from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Lissa is portrayed as a very sweet character, but I found her very, very annoying at times.

 6. A Popular Author that You Can’t Seem to Get Into

John Green! I have read three of his books and I mean, they were okay, but I don’t think I will pick up anything else of his. I just find his stories are all the same and his writing just isn’t for me!

7. A Popular Book Trope That You Are Tired of Seeing

Hmm, there are a lot but I am going to have to say the “I really like them but I am not good for them” book trope because ugh, it is so aggravating. If you like the person don’t push them away! Even if you think you are “bad” for them, they probably won’t care if they also like you.

8. A Popular Book Series That You Have No Interest in Reading

Okay, so I am not going to say I will never read this because I am sure eventually I will, but at the moment I have no desire to read Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman…I am sure it is amazing, from what I have heard, but at the moment it just doesn’t sound like something I would be into, but possibly sometime in the future!

9. The Saying Goes “The Book is Always Better than the Movie” but What Movie or TV Show Adaptation Do You Prefer Over the Book?

For this I am going to have to go with, hands down, The Maze Runner by James Dashner. I enjoyed the movie (both of them) way, way more than the books. I found the books very plain and not very captivating, but I thought the movies were pretty good!

Those are my answers for the Unpopular Opinions Book Tag and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Reading/Writing Update!

Top 5 Favourite Covers!

Sorry there were no blog posts on Monday and Tuesday but from now on there will be so again, I am so sorry about that. Anyways, now I am going to share my top 5 favourite book covers in order so I hope you enjoy!

#5. Winter by Marissa Meyer – Winter is the final book in the Lunar Chronicles series and while it is an amazing read, the cover is gorgeous! The cover has our new POV, Winter, holding a glowing red apple because if you didn’t know, each new Lunar Chronicles book is based on a different fairy tale. If you haven’t read the Lunar Chronicles definitely go pick it up, read it and then stare at the beautiful covers!

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Jonny Duddle Edition (1)#4. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by Harry Potter (UK Edition) – I bought the Harry Potter series in the UK edition because they are stunning but my favourite is definitely the third one. Prisoner of Azkaban used to be one of my least favourite Harry Potter books story wise and cover wise but now I love both. The blues and the patronus featured on the cover just make it that much better! Honestly, if for some odd reason then you NEED to pick up this fantastic series. alexandra-bracken-passenger

#3. Passengers by Alexandra Bracken – When I saw this cover I was like “I HAVE to buy this” and I did but sadly didn’t enjoy the story as much as I did the cover. Passengers is a time travel book and the illustration of the boat on the cover of the book is so incredible that I really wish I loved the story. I am going to give the book another try eventually but until then I will just enjoy its beautiful cover.

the-assassins-blade#2. The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J Maas – I haven’t read this book but the cover is so pretty! It has blues and purples that blend nicely but all of Sarah J Maas’s books are breathtaking so I am not surprised this one is also amazing! Please read all of Sarah J Maas’s books though because you will not regret it.

lady-midnight-by-cassandra-clare#1. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare – This is one of my favourite books EVER and it just happens to have a beautiful cover so that is double points to Cassandra Clare. The cover of Lady Midnight is a picture of our main character, Emma Carstairs floating under water with a sword in hand. The shot is so stunning and captures a certain scene perfectly in the book. Looking at the cover gets me super excited for the next book, Lord of Shadows coming out in May!

That is all for this blog post and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Reading Update.

P.S. I couldn’t put in a picture for Winter so sorry about that!

Favourite Books of 2016!

I don’t plan on reading many new books this December, so I thought I ought to share my favourites from this year! In this blog post I will be listing my top 9 favourites from this year and then lastly my all time favourite book from this year so I hope you enjoy! (P.S. The top 9 are in no particular order!)

10. Winter by Marissa Meyer. This was the first book I completed in 2o16 and I thought it was such a satisfying and epic conclusion to the amazing Lunar Chronicles series. I am a huge fan of this series and while in my opinion, it started off slow, it definitely ended with a bang! I am so happy with this book and it just had to make my list.

9. Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout. I absolutely adore this book which is the first book in the Lux series. It is so fun and entertaining to read and it also has a really awesome cast of characters that I love to follow so much!

8. Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky – Oh my gosh I am obsessed with this story! I watched the movie numerous times before I finally picked up this short book but I am so glad I finally did because it met all the expectations that the movie set up for me. I cannot wait to purchase my own copy of this book because it follows such an interesting and important storyline and overall is a fantastic novel.

7. Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead. This is the 3rd book in the Vampire Academy series and it is my favourite out of the entire series, with Spirit Bound right behind it. I love Vampire Academy and I thought the books were all so amazing but when I read Shadow Kiss I was fangirling and just devouring the whole thing.

6. Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. Everyone was raving about this book because the movie was coming out so I decided to pick it up and read it before I read the book…let me tell you it was not a let down! I finished this book in 2 days and I would not have put it down for even a second if I got the chance. I don’t read to many adult books but this book is definitely the way to go.

5.A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. This book came to a very close tie with my all time favourite book of 2016 because this book is just so damn good! I started reading it in 2015 but put it down because I just wasn’t that into it, but then this past summer I picked it up again and could not stop reading it! It is a very loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast and was just everything a book needed to be to be perfect.

4. Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier. This trilogy is a lot of fun and very intriguing. I picked this up at my library just because I have heard about it a few times so I thought why not? Besides, before reading this I hadn’t read too many time travel books but when I read this book, it made me ONLY want to read time travel books…it was just so freaking good and I love this entire trilogy so much!

3. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han.  I have raved about this book plenty of times on my blog but I just can’t stop. I love to read contemporary but this book made me love the genre even more. It is everything you want in a good contemporary book…it has an adorable romance, a quirky main character, and many, many relatable scenes. I cannot wait for the final book in this trilogy because they are so flipping amazing!

2. I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. Unlike many other contemporaries I didn’t devour this book in one sitting. I wanted to always put this book down because I wanted to extend the story for as long as possible which just shows how amazing it was. I loved the 2 main characters and watching them get through a very dark time in their lives was very raw and real and just made the story 100% better.

1. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare!!! This fantastic book was my all time favourite book of 2016, and let me tell you why. I am a massive Mortal Instruments fan but even I didn’t expect to love this book so much. It was all I expected and more and I am ecstatic for the new book coming out this coming May!

Those were my top 10 favourite books of 2016 and I hope you enjoyed!

Favourite Series by the Genres

I am a huge fan of so many series but I decided to pick my favourite from each genre so here are my all time favourites! BTW I do use some not as popular genres to fit in all of my favourites…I just had to add them all.

Fantasy: The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare – I absolutely LOVE the Mortal Instruments series so much, therefore making Cassandra Clare my all time favourite fantasy author as well. I love her easy writing and how it just flows nicely together. She makes wicked characters and epic worlds and honestly, her books are just a gift to read.

High Fantasy (yes): A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas – Yes, this is going to be separate from the regular ‘fantasy’ genre because Sarah J Maas is such freaking fantastic writer that I had to add in here. A Court of Thorns of Roses is by far one of my favourite reads of this year because it was magical, epic and just perfection.

Sci-Fi: The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer – I don’t read much sci-fi but the Lunar Chronicles is definitely the way to go. This series incorporates fairy tales, awesome characters and just overall an amazing story line. These books are so much fun to read and Marissa Meyer just has such a captivating writing style!

Dystopian: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi – Again, I don’t read a lot of dystopian but the Shatter Me trilogy kept me entertained from beginning to end and I really just love these books. They are fun, gripping and just really easy reads. Plus Warner…

Middle Grade: Harry Potter by JK Rowling – YES this is counting as middle grade because technically it is along with fantasy AND I wanted to add my other favourite middle grade series in here too. But yeah! I am obsessed with Harry Potter, obviously, because how could you not love this epic world that JK Rowling has created?

Mythology: Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan – This has mythology and mythology is a genre so bam. Percy Jackson was the first series I read and the series that got me into reading so not including it would be a crime. Plus Rick Riordan has a way of creating the most lovable and amazing characters so…

Contemporary: Anna, Lola and Isla by Stephanie Perkins – Okay, so the titles of these books were waaay to long to put altogether but technically speaking this is a contemporary trilogy…I mean the stories all tie in together right? Anyways, I love all these books so much. They have awesome characters I relate to, they have Etienne and Cricket and they also just have cute scenes that make me all warm and fuzzy!

Those are all my favourite series/trilogies and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to comment some of your favourite series below as well 🙂

November Talk 2016

November is going to be a fabulous month for reading, writing and movies and I cannot wait to start talking about all of it! I’ll be sharing my most anticipated book and movie releases of the month along with my plan for NaNoWriMo!

BOOKS:

The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon – Nicola Yoon’s books are just so easy and fun to read so I cannot wait to read her new one! The Sun is Also a Star is about a girl named Natasha who is very into science and facts and Daniel who is a dreamer and poet. One day on the crowded streets of New York City, they bump into each other and fall in love. But the thing is Natasha is only hours away from being deported back to Jamaica. This storyline just sounds super intriguing and I am so excited to finally read it. (Nov 1)

Heartless by Marissa Meyer – This may be my most anticipated releases= for this month because anything Marissa Meyer is amazing. Her previous series, The Lunar Chronicles, was so unique and awesome so I cannot wait to get my hands on her new book! Heartless follows the backstory of the Queen of Hearts and shows us why she is the way she is. If that doesn’t get you excited I don’t know what will. (Nov 8)

MOVIES:

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Nov 18)

Moana (Nov 23)

NANOWRIMO:

So as I have mentioned this numerous times and made numerous blog posts…but I am participating in NaNoWriMo for my second time this year and I couldn’t be more excited. NaNoWriMo is a great event that pushes you to write a novel (50,000) words in only 1 month and many actually complete this. For my story, I am leaning towards the epic fantasy genre and am very excited to get my ideas on paper and see where they lead me. While I made quite a few NaNoWriMo prepping posts I actually don’t do much planning myself other than characters and major plot points because that’s just works best for me. Anyways I wish anyone participating the best of luck and happy writing!

Sci-fi Book Recommendations!

Since for Camp NaNoWriMo I am writing a YA sci-fi book I thought I would give you guys some awesome alien based book recommendations that I think are amazing and I am sure you will to! Comment below your favourtie sci-fi book! Mine is either the 5th Wave or Obsidian…

Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout is a sort of supernatural/romance series that I really love and I know you will too. Her books are just extremely easy to get into and enjoy which I really appreciate. This series is about a girl named Katy, who after her dad died, she and her mom moved away to get a fresh start. One thing she doesn’t realize though is she moved next to two twin aliens…

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy is an amazing sci-fi book about a girl named Cassie who is trying to survive during an alien apocalypse. Aliens have come down to earth because they want to inhabit it which means nobody is safe. I loved this book and while the second one let me down the first one totally cancels it out just because of how fantastic it is.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer is a very interesting and different series that I absolutely adore. Each book is a loosely based on a fairy tale with a sci-fi twist. The books are so rich, interesting and detailed and you all need to read it! The first book does start off a bit slow but once you get into it you will not want to stop.

Those are a few sci-fi book recommendations and I hope you liked this post 🙂 Remember, comment down below if you have any post ideas for me because I would love to know what you guys want!

Books I Want to Be Movies

Here are some of the books that I personally think would be very good movies or TV shows if done correctly. Comment the books you think would make great movies/shows!

Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. I know that there has been talk that this show has been optioned for a TV series and I really hope it becomes one because I think if they do everything right, the TV show will be amazing. It is about the assassin who competes in this competition to become the King’s assassin and its fantastic. Game of Thrones lovers would adore this.

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer would also make a great TV show if done correctly. It is a fantasy/sci-fi book series that is about people on the moon trying to take control over earth and I just think it would make to be a very interesting and enjoyable TV show that everyone would love.

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins would be a cute, adorable movie in my opinion. It is about this girl named Anna who is forced to attend a boarding school in Paris and I just think it would be a great movie that falls under the quirky romance category.

The Lux series by Jennifer L Armentrout would make really good movies I think. The books are just so easy and fun to read that I think the movies would be as well. If the casting and script was done correctly I think this could easily be one of my favourite movie adaptations.

The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan could be a TV show as well BUT ONLY IF THEY DO IT RIGHT. The Percy Jackson movies were a fail but I feel like they could make it up by turning the spin off series into an action packed TV show!

Those are some of the books I think would make entertaining TV shows or movies and I hope you found it interesting:)

My Book Buying List!

I have so many books I want and NEED to buy so here is my list!

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard. I really enjoyed Red Queen so I cannot wait to get my hands on this book! Yes it wasn’t all that original but it was really a great, easy read and that plot twist….

Fallen Kingdoms by Morgan Rhode is another book I need to get because it sounds like such a great fantasy book and I have heard so many great things!

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard is another fantasy book I would love to read. The concept is so unique and fantastic that I want to read about it.

Oppositon by Jennifer L Armentrout is the final book in the Lux series which is one of my new favourite series and after finishing Origin last night I NEED to read the last book and finds out what happens like now.

Stars Above by Marissa Meyer is a bunch of short stories that take place after the Lunar Chronicles which by the way is an amazing series so go read it. After reading Winter, the last book in the series, I am really excited to see how the characters are after the war and everything.

Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare and a few other authors is about Simon after he becomes a Shadowhunter and I am pretty sure you can tell he goes to Shadowhunter Academy. This isn’t exactly a book series because it is a whole bunch of novellas but I heard they get really great and besides, I would like to see the characters again and Simon is just a great, funny character.

Okay! So that is all for today and I will be back with another post tomorrow 🙂

January Wrap Up!

Today is January 28 which means there are only 3 more days of January left so I thought why not share with you all the books I read this month! So I read a total of 4 books this month which for me is pretty good since I can be a slow reader. Anyway, here are the books I read in the first month of 2016…

The first book I read this month was Winter by Marissa Meyer, the last book in the Lunar Chronicles which is a sci-fi fantasy series that you must read. I got this book for Christmas and I was highly anticipating it in 2015 so I flew through it and read all 800+ pages. It was an amazing, epic finale that was done right.

The next book I read Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout, the first book in YA paranormal series called the Lux Series. I have been putting this book off for a while and I am so glad I finally read it because I couldn’t stop. It was such an easy read and I relate to the character so much and it was just wonderful.

I also read Onyx by Jennifer L Armentrout which is the second book in the Lux Series and it was definitely just as good. The main character, Katy sometimes gets on my nerves but I still find myself relating to her a lot which probably would make her my favourite character.

The last book I read this month (and still currently reading) is Opal by Jennifer L Armentrout, yes the third book in the Lux series but I am just flying through her books! The series has 5 books but I wish it would just continue on, and on, and on…no but seriously please pick up the first book sometime and read it because the books are just so mesmerizing and fun, it is worth the read and you will not regret it!

Okay, that’s all I will be posting for today so I hope all you have a great day and I will be back with another blog tomorrow morning. 🙂
