Bingeable Book Series!

Imagine this: curling up in bed with a hot steaming cup of coffee or tea with a stack of books at hand. Doesn’t this sound amazing? Well if it does, then definitely keep reading for a lot of bingeable recommendations!

The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan

Image result for the heroes of olympus series

Obviously you have to read the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series before reading this one, but if you already have then you need to pick this series up. The Heroes of Olympus series follows a group of demigods who band together to defeat the all powerful, Gaia, or who is better known as Mother Earth. There are five books and they are The Lost Hero, The Son of Neptune, The Mark of Athena, The House of Hades and The Blood of Olympus. These books include a wonderful cast of characters and pages upon pages of epic quests and fight scenes.

The Kane Chronicles trilogy by Rick Riordan

Image result for the kane chronicles series

Yep, more Rick Riordan because his series are so much fun to read in a binge session. While Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and the Heroes of Olympus are influenced by Greek and Roman mythology, the Kane Chronicles is influenced by Egyptian mythology. It follows two siblings, Carter and Sadie, whose father disappears in a grand scheme to steal a valuable item from a museum. Later they learn that they are tied to the Egyptian world of gods and monsters, and that their father’s disappearance has to do with it. This series does not get a lot of credit for how good and fun it is, so when I see a chance I have to recommend it!

The Wrath and the Dawn duology by Renee Ahdieh

Yes, yes, this isn’t a series but it is a fantastic duology that everyone needs to read. It twists around with the Arabian story of One Thousand and One Arabian Nights and it is filled with action, suspense and swoon worthy moments. I currently have not read the companion to the first book, which is the Rose and the Dagger, but I am getting it in the mail today so I will jump into it as soon as possible!

Shatter Me trilogy by Tahereh Mafi

Image result for shatter me trilogy

This is a trilogy where you pick up the first book and then immediately after you finish you want to pick up the other two books. But wait…this trilogy isn’t going to be a trilogy for long because Tahereh Mafi announced that she is adding two more books to this addicting series! This means you have time to catch up. The first book follows a girl named Juliette who has been locked up in a cell for almost a year but eventually breaks out with the help of an unusual friend. She soon realizes her breakout was more than she assumed and suddenly her whole life is flipped upside down. Love, love, love these books and definitely recommend them!

Anna and the French Kiss trilogy by Stephanie Perkins

tumblr_mixxgtPAsX1s3jza0o1_500

I know, this isn’t really a trilogy but while the books follow completely different characters with each book, they do intertwine eventually. The three books are Anna and the French Kiss, Lola and the Boy Next Door, and Isla and the Happily Ever After. This is a contemporary trilogy and each book is different so I won’t go into too much deal other than say that there are heart throbbing romances and heart shattering heart breaks!

Those are all the bingeable series I have for you today and I hope you enjoyed.

Trashy YA Novels

By trashy, I mean filled with YA tropes and clichés…but in the best way possible. I absolutely love trashy YA, I devour it because it is made of the most addicting things ever! Anyways, here are a list of five of my favourite trashy YA novels.

obsidian-cover5The Lux Series by Jennifer L Armentrout – These books are about a human and a hot, alien badboy falling for each other…how more cliché can it get? I read the first book in one sitting because I didn’t want to stop, and same with the second. The series falters a bit after the second, but I still really enjoy it overall. If you want a fast-paced, trashy YA series, definitely give this a go!

thesummeriturnedpretty

The Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy by Jenny Han – Cliché count…this books takes place in the summer(1), it has a love triangle(2), it has a good boy and a bad boy(3), it has a girl who doesn’t think she is pretty but really is(4)…the list goes on and on and on. This is a very controversial trilogy because some people enjoy it while others don’t, but personally I think it is a lot of fun.

a court of thorns and roses

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas – This has a lot of romance in it, and also has the typical cliché of “good boy” and “bad boy” but I love it! It is a loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast and just makes you swoon. It is probably the least trashy book on this list, but still, it has its clichés that I adore.

selection-cvr

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass – I swear these books are the definition of trashy which is probably why I finished the first three books in two days…once you pick them up you do not want to put them down which is why I love all these trashy books. They always make me want to read. The Selection has romance and tension and is overall a really fun and entertaining read!

tumblr_mixxgtPAsX1s3jza0o1_500Anna and the French Kiss, Lola and the Boy Next Door and Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins – These are some of my favourite contemporary books, but they definitely fit into the category of trashy YA. They have such adorable romances and clichés that even though they are heavily used, you can’t help but appreciate. Once you pick up the first one, you want to pick up the next one right away and voila! You are once again sucked into the trashy YA’s.

Those are five of my favourite trashy YA novels, and I use trashy in a good way I swear. If you want to a quick, entertaining read definitely give these a try! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Reading/Writing Update!

March 2017 Wrap Up!

March was a good reading month which was great, because I plan on reading a lot of books this year. Anyways, here are the books I managed to read this month!

p-s-i-still-love-you-jenny-han-coverP.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han – Since the new and final book is coming out in May, I decided I should re read the first two books in preparation, but also because I just love this series. The first book, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, follows sixteen year old Lara Jean, who’s secret love letters have been sent out to all the boys she has loved before, and she finds herself digging a hole of lies to prevent her current crush from knowing the truth. This is a very quirky and relatable book that you can’t help but enjoy! 5/5 stars

Lola-and-the-Boy-Next-Door_PBLola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins – I had no real reason to re read this book other than the fact that I just wanted to. Lola and the Boy Next Door is about an expressive and unique girl named Lola who has a great life. She loves her parents, has a great best friend, a great boyfriend and is in her final year of high school, but when her first love who crushed her heart moves back next door, things get flipped upside down. This is such a feel-good book that leaves you all warm and fuzzy, and I definitely recommend it if you are in search for a good contemporary! 5/5 stars

before-i-fall1Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver – Since the movie came out this month, I thought it would be a good idea to go read the book before I watched the movie so I did and I really enjoyed it! Before I Fall is about a girl named Sam who has it all. She is popular, has a great group of friends named Lindsay, Elody and Ally, and is dating one of the most popular guys in school. But when her and her friends are driving back from a party one night, they get into and accident and Sam suddenly finds herself reliving that day over and over again. I thought this book really made you think about and cherish the life you have, and while it had a lot of darker and more serious elements, it was also filled with light and fluffy moments that I really appreciated. 3/5 stars

ruby-red-trilogy-by-kerstin-gierRuby Red, Sapphire Blue and Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier – I always forget how much I really do love the Ruby Red trilogy until I read it, and I am so happy that I decided to pick it up again. Ruby Red follows a girl named Gwenyth who comes from a family of time travellers, but it is believed that the time travelling gene has skipped her, and instead possessed by her cousin, Charlotte. But when Gwen is thrust back in time, completely unprepared, she finds herself living the life her cousin was meant to but not necessarily the life she wanted to. I really recommend this if you want an easy, fun book with a great romance in it! 4.5/5 stars for all three

Those are all the books I managed to read in the month of March and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Reading/Writing Update!

Underhyped YA Books!

There are a lot of amazing overhyped books, but there are also a lot of amazing underhyped books and here are a few that I have read, that I think everyone should read too.

Ruby RedRuby Red by Kerstin Gier – I have talked about this book quite a bit on my blog, but it is seriously underhyped. It is originally written in German, but is translated into Enlgish, and even has movies! Ruby Red is about a girl named Gwenyth who is born into a family of time travelers, but only her cousin, Charlotte, is believed to have the special gene. That is, until one day Gwen finds herself back in the past and completely unprepared. Now she is thrust into a new world of time traveling, and has an arrogant but handsome partner named Gideon. This is definitely one of my favourite trilogies and it deserves more recognition.

Kane ChroniclesThe Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan – Rick Riordan’s other series such as, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Heroes of Olympus, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard and The Trials of Apollo, are his most popular and loved series. But, everyone forgets about his trilogy on Egyptian mythology called the Kane Chronicles! The first book, The Red Pyramid, follows two siblings, Carter and Sadie who’s father takes them to the British Museum one night, and ends up releasing the ancient god Set. The two kids run for their lives as their father is taken, and they set off to save him while unraveling the truth of their family and a world that was unknown to them. I really enjoy this series, and while I definitely wouldn’t say it is his best series, it is still worth the read!

thesummeriturnedprettyThe Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han – Her other contemporary trilogy, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, is very loved and I too, am a massive fan of it. But not too many people have read her other trilogy, The Summer I Turned Pretty. The Summer I Turned Pretty follows our main character, Belly, who returns with her mother and brother to a beach house that she has spent every summer at since she was young. There, she is reunited with the two children of her mom’s best friend, Conrad and Jeremiah, and has a summer filled with fun and romance. This trilogy is a very easy and entertaining read that I think everyone should read, especially if they are looking for a good summery read.

Legacy-of-Kings-Eleanor-HermanLegacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman – This book takes place in Ancient Greece and follows multiple POV’s such as Alexander who is Macedonia’s heir, Katerina who is determined to kill the Queen, Jacob who will go to any length to win over Katerina, Hephaestion who is a murderer sheltered by the prince, and Zofia a Persian princess whom Alexander is set to married. There are so many twists and turns in this novel, and I think a lot more people should give it a chance.

Lola-and-the-Boy-Next-Door_PBLola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins – I talk about this book way too much, but a lot of people prefer the first book, Anna and the French Kiss over this book, and forget about it! Lola and the Boy Next Door in my opinion, is just as good as Anna and the French Kiss and more people should give it a chance. Lola and the Boy Next Door follows Lola, a stylish and unique girl who has the perfect life. She has a great best friend, a great boyfriend, and is going to enter her winter formal in the most lavish dress. All of this is turned upside down though, when her first love and first heartbreak moves back next door and changes everything. This book is too cute and if you haven’t read it, read it!

Those are five underhyped books that you should read already if you haven’t, and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: March 2017 Haul!

Reading/Writing Update

p-s-i-still-love-you-jenny-han-coverI have quite a few books I want to get to this March because this spring is filled with new releases I want to read. A lot of the new releases are also sequels to books I’ve read, which means a lot of re reading will be happening this month and next. Anyways, I have already completed one book this month, which I am very happy about, and am half way done another! The first book I completed this month was P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han, the second book to To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. The third book in this trilogy is coming out in early May, and now that I have re read all the books I am ready and excited to get my hands on it! The other book I am almost done, is Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. This is another millionth re read but as always, I am loving it. I am trying to decide what to read next, but I am thinking either Lady Midnight or Before I Fall…but I guess we will see once I finish my current read.Lola-and-the-Boy-Next-Door_PB

I actually have writing related stuff to talk about today! So I did try and do some writing this week, and I did, but only a page and then I deleted it…I forgot my writing notes on this story at school so everything felt wrong and confusing since I couldn’t look at my notes. That’s okay though, because I will just have to wait for Monday to write. Also, Camp NaNoWriMo is coming! April 1st is the first day of Camp NaNoWrimo which I am very excited about. I am going to use this as an excuse to get my writing done and I am hoping it will motivate me to do so. Definitely join Camp NaNoWriMo because it is a great way to finish or add to something you started, and is also a good way to talk things out with other writers!camp_logo-290f133f1af2562198f3a75b662feb03

That is my reading and writing update and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Exciting Spring 2017 Releases 2017!

Stress Relieving Books

Right now I am going through exams which of course, are extremely stressful, and during my study breaks, I find that reading a light and easy book is a great way to relieve the heavy stress upon my shoulders…since I am sure a lot of you can relate to this feeling, her are a few stress relieving books that I recommend!

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins – In this book you get totally engrossed with the life of the characters, and it erases any stress, anxiety or worry you were feeling before. It is playful, light hearted and a very fun read that I 100% recommend. Lola and the Boy Next Door is about a girl named Lola who is living a great life. She has a great boyfriend, an amazing best friend, and is almost finished high school, but when her first love moves back next door, her life is flipped upside down.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han – This book is such a fun and entertaining read, and is one of my favourite contemporaries ever!  In this book, we follow Lara Jean, a shy and quiet girl who writes love letters to every boy she has loved before. When her secret letters somehow get out, she finds herself digging herself in a deep hole of lies to prevent her current crush from knowing she truly likes him.

The Selection by Kiera Cass – The Selection is a very quick and easy read that will have you laughing and squealing at various times throughout. The Selection is about a girl named America who has entered herself into a competition for the Prince of Illea’s heart, but things get complicated because she is in love with someone else. I love these books and if you haven’t read them, read them!

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – Despite this book having supernatural people and fighting, you find yourself diving deep into the world and leaving our world behind easily. Vampire Academy is a great series that makes you feel a lot of great things. In this book, we follow Rose Hathaway, a girl who has been created to protect those higher than her, the Moroi (aka vampires), but when she and her best friend Lissa, return to the Vampire Academy after fleeing the previous year, they must both defend themselves against not only against the evil inside but outside as well.

Those are all my stress relieving book recommendations and I hope you enjoyed!

Books You Need to Read Right Now!

I have put together a list of amazing books that you need to read ASAP, so I hope you enjoy!

An Ember and the Ashes & A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir – These 2 books take place in a Ancient Rome inspired world and follow a girl named Laia who sets out to find her brother after he is kidnapped by the cruel Empire. These books are SO good! They took a few pages to get into, but by page 100 you are sucked into the world and it is always painful to leave because the world is so rich and the characters are so dynamic and flawed. These books ARE perfection honestly.

Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout – Obsidian is just one of those books that you read and finish in one sitting. In the book, we follow Katy as she and her mother move to Virginia for a fresh start, but they end up moving next to 2 twins named Dee and Damon Black who are far from normal. As secrets unravel, Katy’s life is flipped upside down and she is forced to cope in this new world. I love the Lux series because it is so fast paced and has amazing and witty characters that you can’t help but love.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare – City of Bones follows Clary Fray who after the sudden disappearance of her mother, is thrust into a world of Shadowhunters and demons after she discovers that she herself is a Shadowhunter. This is my all time favourite book series because I love our great and diverse cast of characters and every book just grips me so much that I am always sitting on the edge of my chair. Read it!

Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins – If you enjoy contemporaries these books are an absolute must! In Anna and the French Kiss, we follow Anna, an American girl who is being forced to attend a boarding school in Paris. At her new school, she meets a group of cool friends and one of them just happens to be a gorgeous Parisian boy named Etienne St.Clair. The book is filled with heart ache and romance and is overall an amazing contemporary. In Lola and the Boy Next door, we follow Lola who is a very unique individual and always dresses as something new every day. She is in her senior year and her life is great, she has a great boyfriend and an amazing best friend, but when her childhood love comes back into her life things are flipped out of place. I also love this book and think it is very relatable and realistic and is really something anyone could enjoy.

Those are a few books that you HAVE to read. Of course there are more but these are just some that came to mind because they are amazing and deserve to be read! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Planning Your Story!

Books You Need to Read!

There are some books out there that everyone has to read and in this blog post I am going to be sharing a few that if you haven’t read, you better go to a bookstore or a library and pick it up because let me tell you, you will not regret it!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling – While a lot of people have read this amazing series, a lot of people haven’t so it is always worth recommending because that person might have not had the motivation to ever read it. The Harry Potter series is a fantastic series that I absolutely adore and am loving re reading right now! I think you don’t even know what a book is until you have read this magical classic.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell – Every reader needs to read it because it is funny, adorable and relatable. All of Rainbow Rowell’s books are amazing, but this one is my favourite because Cath has so many relatable qualities and has many obstacles in her life that many people could relate to as well. Apart from her obstacles, this book has a sweet romance and great friendships and is always fun to read.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare – This is my all time favourite series and I think everyone should have the privilege to read this wonderful series! We follow an amazingly diverse cast of characters and there is witty humor, loss, romance, and action and the Shadow world is just perfection as is Jace…you need to read this series, and The Infernal Devices and then The Dark Artifices because it is just so much amazingness!

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan – The Percy Jackson series is such a fun series to get into, and while the first book is slightly slow, it really does pick up quickly and soon you find yourself being whisked away into a world filled with Greek Gods, monsters and amazing characters. The Percy Jackson characters, much like the Mortal Instruments characters, are very diverse and just have many unique qualities. I recommend this to all ages because everyone who reads it loves it!

Anna and the French Kiss/Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins – When I first read these books and finished them, I flipped back to the beginning and started again because they are THAT good. If you love contemporaries (like me) then you definitely should give these a read because it is so worth it. I was a little hesitant when I first picked these up in 2014 but I slapped myself silly because I fell in love with the story line and the romance and Etienne and Cricket…you just need to read both of these books!

Those are a few books that you NEED to read because they are absolutely amazing! Of course there are many other amazing books, these are just ones that have greatly impacted me and are ones I never stop thinking about. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Writing Exercises!

Books That Need a Sequel!

Sometimes when a book ends, it doesn’t need a squeal…but when you finish it and there are a whole bunch of open ended questions, you want the answers to them! Here are a few books that I personally think should have a sequels. It doesn’t have to be a long sequel, just one that answers all of my questions. (P.S May contain spoilers below)

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell – Umm I bet you are all thinking the same because that ending left us with nothing! It seems like Rainbow Rowell enjoys leaving us with unanswered questions in the end because she does it a lot. I want to know how Park lives his life after Eleanor leaves him with a terrible explanation…does he meet someone else? Or can his undying love for Eleanor never go away? Also, what happens to Eleanor? Is she happy with her new life, or does she maybe regret the choices she has previously made? Answers to all these things would be great Rainbow Rowell!!!

Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins – These books end with no cliff hangers or anything, but I want to see how all these characters live their lives after the events in these books! I want to see them happy and how their future lives play out. I would be fine with no sequel but I would love to read one…

Paper Towns by John Green – I didn’t love this book, but I did not find it satisfying that Quentin just gave up on Margo after she turned him down. Like yes, Margo is not good for him whatsoever but if he actually loved her he wouldn’t let her go that easy! I want to know if he tries to go after her again, or if he finds someone new…what happens?!

The One by Kiera Cass – I know we have The Heir and The Crown that take place years later after The One, but I want a sequel solely based on Maxon and America and their lives right after they get married and Maxon gets crowned King! I love them together and am dying to see what happens on their honeymoon, and when they first get pregnant with Eadlyn. It doesn’t even have to be a full book, a novella would be fine by me.

Anyways, those are a few books I would really like sequels too! I hope you enjoyed and don’t forget to check out my last blog post: December 2016 Talk!

Top 5 Contemporary Books

I only started really getting only contemporary this year and now I am obsessed. Contemporary books are so much fun to read and are feel good books which I personally love. Anyways, here are my top 5 favourite contemporary books!

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins – I absolutely adore this book and can never get enough of it. We follow Lola Nolan, a fun and out there girl who believes not in fashion but in costume. She has a great boyfriend and just a generally good life but that is all flipped upside down when her first love, Cricket Bell, moves back next door and changes everything. This is a really sweet and heart warming love story that is something a lot of people can relate to character and plot wise.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han – I read this book recently and it instantly became one of my favourite books. Jenny Han just has an amazing writing style that flows really nicely and is pleasing to read. In this book, we follow a very sentimental character named Lara Jean who writes love letters to every boy she has loved before, but when those letters mysteriously get sent out and is sent to her current love, she quickly forms a fake relationship to spare herself the embarrassment. I love all the characters in this book and everything about this book is just perfection.

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins – This book actually ties in to Lola and the Boy Next Door but until that part, it is an entirely different story. Instead of Lola we follow Anna who by her father, is sent away to Paris to attend a boarding school, and there she meets an interesting group of friends including a boy named Etienne. Instantly she finds herself falling for him but pushes that aside but she learns it is harder than she thought. This story is frustrating (in a good way) and plays with your heart but overall is truly amazing.

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson – Since You’ve Been Gone is different from other contemporaries I have read because it includes a bucket list/scavenger hunt which makes the story that much better. Since You’ve Been Gone is about a girl named Emily who’s best friend Sloane suddenly disappears, leaving behind only a summer bucket list. Out of desperation, Emily goes off to complete this list, hoping it will lead her to Sloane, but along the way makes some new friends. The adventure the characters go on in this story is just so much fun to follow and really gets you wanting to create a fun bucket list to complete.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell – I haven’t met one person who has read this book and said they didn’t like it. In this book, we follow Cath who is very reserved and shy as opposed to her twin sister Wren, as they go off to their first year of college. Once they are there, Cath meets her roommate Raegan and her friend, Levi who help Cath out of her bubble of insecurity and fear. I think one reason why everyone loves this story is because it is relatable. A lot of people have social anxiety like Cath and it is something that definitely needs to be in more books!

Those are my top 5 favourite contemporaries and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last post too: Writing Expectations VS Reality!
