Movies I Liked Better Than the Book…

You know, sometimes the movie is better than the books…I know, I know that is an awful thing to say but it’s true! Usually when I enjoy a movie over its book, it is all because of pacing. Most movies do a generally good job at making sure their plots are fast paced but sometimes books lack that. Anyways, here are the movies that I prefer over their original book:

The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials by James Dashner

I barley even remember opening up The Maze Runner book because I just found it so slow and dull that I blocked it out of my mind. I didn’t connect to the characters at all, but when I saw them portrayed on the screen I loved it! However, I did happen to enjoy the first book more than the second, The Scorch Trials. The Scorch Trials was very bland, and they traveled through a desert for the ENTIRE book without much happening and it was hard for me to picture what the setting was like, because all I could see was sand, sand and sand. I didn’t love the movie either, but again, I enjoyed it a LOT more than the book. Sorry James Dashner!

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

This book is a very long book and in my opinion, it didn’t really need to be that long! It was over 400 pages and it dragged on…a lot. Again, this wasn’t a case where I absolutely adored the movie, but I did enjoy it and have watched it a few times. Like I mentioned in my opening, movies are generally faster paced than most books and this was definitely the case with this book. I don’t think I would re read this book, but I am glad that I did read it before watching the movie!

The 100 by Kass Morgan

I didn’t even read all of the first book, but I did read about 50 pages and didn’t really like what I read. I read it after I watched the first season of The 100, which is absolutely amazing, and liked how the show portrayed the plot line more…The show just keeps getting better and better and I don’t see myself continuing on with the series in the future. But if you haven’t watched the TV show then definitely check it out!

Those are a few movies (or TV shows) that I enjoyed more than their original book and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Literary Magazines!

Unpopular Book Opinions!

This book tag was originally created by TheBookArcher on YouTube, and it looked like a lot of fun so I decided to do it!

  1. A Popular Book or Series You Didn’t Like

Twilight by Stephanie Meyers…I didn’t hate the first book but I could not get into it whatsoever. I read the first hundred or so pages, but then skimmed the rest and the only reason I know what happens is because I have seen the movies, which honestly, I prefer over the books.

2. A Popular Book or Series that Everyone Else Seems to Hate but You Love

I wouldn’t necessarily say everyone hates it, but there is controversy surrounding this trilogy and that is The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy by Jenny Han. It is very cliché, and I do see its flaws, but overall I really enjoyed it and can see myself re reading it in the future!

3. A Love Triangle Where the Main Character Ended Up with the Person You Did NOT Want Them to End Up with, or an OTP You Don’t Like

I am going to go with an OTP I don’t like, and if you haven’t read Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare, you might not want to read this, but it isn’t that big of a spoiler. For this I am going to have to say Mark Blackthorn and Kieran because I do not like Kieran. I think Mark deserves SO much better and while Kieran does have his moments, he did something that I will never, ever forgive him for.

4. A Popular Book Genre That You Hardly Reach For

I do have a few books of this genre, but I hardly ever reach for it on my own, and that is sci-fi. I do have the first two books in the 5th Wave trilogy by Rick Yancy, and also the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, but other than that I don’t really read to much sci-fi.

5. A Popular or Beloved Character that You Do Not Like

Hmm…okay a popular character I don’t like that everyone else seems to is Lissa from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Lissa is portrayed as a very sweet character, but I found her very, very annoying at times.

 6. A Popular Author that You Can’t Seem to Get Into

John Green! I have read three of his books and I mean, they were okay, but I don’t think I will pick up anything else of his. I just find his stories are all the same and his writing just isn’t for me!

7. A Popular Book Trope That You Are Tired of Seeing

Hmm, there are a lot but I am going to have to say the “I really like them but I am not good for them” book trope because ugh, it is so aggravating. If you like the person don’t push them away! Even if you think you are “bad” for them, they probably won’t care if they also like you.

8. A Popular Book Series That You Have No Interest in Reading

Okay, so I am not going to say I will never read this because I am sure eventually I will, but at the moment I have no desire to read Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman…I am sure it is amazing, from what I have heard, but at the moment it just doesn’t sound like something I would be into, but possibly sometime in the future!

9. The Saying Goes “The Book is Always Better than the Movie” but What Movie or TV Show Adaptation Do You Prefer Over the Book?

For this I am going to have to go with, hands down, The Maze Runner by James Dashner. I enjoyed the movie (both of them) way, way more than the books. I found the books very plain and not very captivating, but I thought the movies were pretty good!
