December 2016 Book Haul!

I bought a LOT of books this month so sit tight because this is going to be a lengthy post. I won’t go into much detail about each books but I will briefly summarize each of them because their synopsis’s have me so excited to read them!

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han – I have already read this book, as some of you may know, and loved it so I just had to buy my very own copy. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is a contemporary following a high school girl named Lara Jean who ever since she was young, has written a goodbye love letter to all the boys she had loved before. One day though, they mysteriously all get sent out and she finds herself digging a deep hole as she tries to cover up her feelings about her sister’s boyfriend, who also received a letter. I love this book and hope everyone has the chance to read it at some point!

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson – I also read this book already and just needed my own copy so I could read it whenever. I’ll Give You the Sun is also a contemporary about 2 twins, Noah and June who after being so close for so long, begin to drift apart after several different life changing events occur. This book is very raw and real and it is amazing!

Tales of the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare – I have been waiting for the bind up of these novellas for so long now and I cannot wait to devour them! These novellas take place right after the events of City of Heavenly Fire and follows Simon as he starts training at Shadowhunter Academy. I am so excited to continue reading it, because I did start it earlier this month but put it down, but I am just itching to continue on with it.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R. Tolkein – I actually got this book for free because I attended this write in writing contest and received this book which I am happy to have on my shelf. I have watched all the movies but haven’t got a chance to read or at least try reading the books yet.

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo – I really loved Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo which follows a unusual group of people who are on the mission to complete an impossible task. It is very action packed and just full of amazingness and I cannot wait to read the second and final book to see what happens!

A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir – Again, An Ember in the Ashes completely blew me away so I can only hope that the second one is just as good. The first book is about a girl named Laia who after she witnesses her brother being taken away by the government, sets out to save him. I am so, so excited to read Torch and want to get to it early next year.

Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead – I have been slowly accumulating this series and now have the complete set! The Vampire Academy series follows Rose Hathaway who is part of a race that protects Moroi (vampires) like her best friend Lissa Dragomir. We follow the 2 of them as they attend school while trying to survive from the dangers outside and inside their school. I love Vampire Academy and cannot wait to re read the whole series!

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Adieh – I have heard great things about this book and the plot just sounds so interesting so I cannot wait to jump right into it. This book is about a girl named Shahrzad who volunteers to be the bride of a prince who every night, takes a new wife only for her to mysteriously be killed by the morning. Shahrzad volunteers in hope of avenging her friend who was the prince’s previous bride but she soon realizes things are much more complex than she thought.

Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier – I have raved about this book on my blog before because it has time travel and is AMAZING. Ruby Red is about a girl named Gwen who is from a family of time travellers who every generation another is “blessed” with the gift of time traveling. Gwen’s entire family believes it is her cousin who possesses the gift but things get flipped upside down when Gwen finds herself travelling through time instead.

Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky – This story is so real and heart wrenching and I am so happy to be able to read it whenever. Perks follows Charlie, a boy who suffers from different mental issues all concerning his Aunt Helen who died when he was young. By everyone, he is looked upon as odd and weird but in his first year of high school meets a group of seniors who let him in. This book is so moving and needs to be read by everyone.

Those are all of the books I purchased this month and I cannot wait to read all of them! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: December 2016 Movie Reviews!

Favourite Books of 2016!

I don’t plan on reading many new books this December, so I thought I ought to share my favourites from this year! In this blog post I will be listing my top 9 favourites from this year and then lastly my all time favourite book from this year so I hope you enjoy! (P.S. The top 9 are in no particular order!)

10. Winter by Marissa Meyer. This was the first book I completed in 2o16 and I thought it was such a satisfying and epic conclusion to the amazing Lunar Chronicles series. I am a huge fan of this series and while in my opinion, it started off slow, it definitely ended with a bang! I am so happy with this book and it just had to make my list.

9. Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout. I absolutely adore this book which is the first book in the Lux series. It is so fun and entertaining to read and it also has a really awesome cast of characters that I love to follow so much!

8. Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky – Oh my gosh I am obsessed with this story! I watched the movie numerous times before I finally picked up this short book but I am so glad I finally did because it met all the expectations that the movie set up for me. I cannot wait to purchase my own copy of this book because it follows such an interesting and important storyline and overall is a fantastic novel.

7. Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead. This is the 3rd book in the Vampire Academy series and it is my favourite out of the entire series, with Spirit Bound right behind it. I love Vampire Academy and I thought the books were all so amazing but when I read Shadow Kiss I was fangirling and just devouring the whole thing.

6. Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. Everyone was raving about this book because the movie was coming out so I decided to pick it up and read it before I read the book…let me tell you it was not a let down! I finished this book in 2 days and I would not have put it down for even a second if I got the chance. I don’t read to many adult books but this book is definitely the way to go.

5.A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. This book came to a very close tie with my all time favourite book of 2016 because this book is just so damn good! I started reading it in 2015 but put it down because I just wasn’t that into it, but then this past summer I picked it up again and could not stop reading it! It is a very loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast and was just everything a book needed to be to be perfect.

4. Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier. This trilogy is a lot of fun and very intriguing. I picked this up at my library just because I have heard about it a few times so I thought why not? Besides, before reading this I hadn’t read too many time travel books but when I read this book, it made me ONLY want to read time travel books…it was just so freaking good and I love this entire trilogy so much!

3. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han.  I have raved about this book plenty of times on my blog but I just can’t stop. I love to read contemporary but this book made me love the genre even more. It is everything you want in a good contemporary book…it has an adorable romance, a quirky main character, and many, many relatable scenes. I cannot wait for the final book in this trilogy because they are so flipping amazing!

2. I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. Unlike many other contemporaries I didn’t devour this book in one sitting. I wanted to always put this book down because I wanted to extend the story for as long as possible which just shows how amazing it was. I loved the 2 main characters and watching them get through a very dark time in their lives was very raw and real and just made the story 100% better.

1. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare!!! This fantastic book was my all time favourite book of 2016, and let me tell you why. I am a massive Mortal Instruments fan but even I didn’t expect to love this book so much. It was all I expected and more and I am ecstatic for the new book coming out this coming May!

Those were my top 10 favourite books of 2016 and I hope you enjoyed!

Top 5 Books I Read in Fall!

I read quite a few books over the months of September through to November, and overall, I was very happy with them! Despite the large amount I read though, I am only going to be sharing my top 5 favourites I read this month, otherwise this would be a very long blog post.

Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier – Ruby Red follows a girl named Gwen who is from a family of time travelers, but she herself is believed to not have inherited the gift but her cousin, Charlotte supposedly has. That is, until she finds herself transported back in time and realizes that she is the one who has the abilities, not her cousin. I adored this book, and also the rest of the trilogy equally. The action and snippets of history were very enriching and the whole cast of characters were very entertaining and I just loved reading about them! 4.5/5 stars

Just One Day by Gayle Forman – Just One Day is about a girl who is on a senior trip in Europe and after meeting an intriguing boy, they run off to Paris and live wildly for a day. The next day though, he has mysteriously disappeared and she is led to believe that he just abandoned her. Throughout the novel, we follow her as she tries to cope with the abandonment, all while wondering why he left her. I really enjoyed this book, it was light and fluffy at the beginning and got quite darker towards the end. I did think that sometimes the main character was being slightly dramatic, because what did she expect? That they were going to fall madly in love? But overall it was a very fast paced read that I do really recommend! 4.5/5 stars

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han – In this book, we follow Lara Jean, a young girl who for the longest time has wrote a love letter to all the boys she has ever loved before, but when they are all mailed out she jumps into a plan to prevent her current crush from knowing she truly does love him. I don’t want to say anything else because I didn’t know anything about it going in and I personally think it is more fun that way! Honestly though, I loved this contemporary story. Is was humorous and relatable and just so entertaining. I cannot wait for the 3rd book to come out because I need more! 5/5 stars

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson – In this book, we follow 2 twins, June and Noah who when they were younger were very close, but after a tragic event they drifted apart and are practically strangers to each other. In Noah’s POV, we go back to their past when they were about 13, and in June’s POV we follow them in their present, 3 years later. I really, really enjoyed this book because it dealt with issues I don’t see enough in books, and also kept it real and raw. It was definitely a sadder and darker contemporary but nonetheless it was amazing! 5/5 stars

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by JK Rowling – In the 4th book of the Harry Potter series we watch as the Triwizard tournament comes to Hogwarts, and how it affects the lives of Harry, Ron and Hermione. This book is my favourite book in the series because it is very fun to watch the events of the Triwizard tournament, and I also like meeting the new characters! This was a re read but it was just as amazing this time as it was the first! 5/5 stars

These are my top 5 favourite books that I completed in fall and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Books I Want to Finish Over the Holidays!

December 2016 Book Buying List!

December is the one month (besides my birthday) where I allow myself to go book crazy and buy a whole bunch of books. This year though, I do want to control my amount of books so I am going to try and stick to this list…we will see how it goes.

To All Boys I’ve Loved Before & P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han – I read these books last month and I absolutely fell in love with both of them. They are so warm and fuzzy and entertaining that I read them in one sitting each and could not have enjoyed it more. I borrowed them from my local library so I do not have them but I would love to purchase them this month so I could read them whenever!

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson – I read this book last month and talked about how amazing it was in my November 2016 Wrap Up, and honestly it was that amazing and I cannot wait to own my own copy. I love how meaningful this book is, yet it also a very light and warm book at times. I cannot wait to give this a re read sometime in the future!

Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare – I am a MASSIVE Cassandra Clare book and I was absolutely dying to read the stories in this book when they were out in eBook…but I waited until the physical bind up came out. Now I am itching to buy it and devour it because I am so excited!

Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson – I love Morgan Mastson and her novels so I really want to read her newest one which I have heard great things about. I love contemporaries so cannot wait to read this one!

Illuminae and Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman – I have heard fantastic things about these two novels and I just know I will love them so I would love to buy these books this month! Gemina recently released and again, has a lot of good hype and buzz around it. I have always felt intrigued by these books but never picked them up so hopefully this month is the month I do that!

Of course I would love to buy some more books but this is the list I will (hopefully) follow and I am super excited to read any of these! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: November 2016 Wrap Up!

November 2016 Wrap Up!

It is finally December and I am so excited, but right now I am not talking about December, I am talking about all the books I completed in November! I didn’t read that many books because I was busy re reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (because that book is a commitment) but I did manage to read a few other books on the side so here they are!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down by Jeff Kinney – Yes, I still read Diary of a Wimpy kid despite being 15 years old, but they are just so much fun and so easy to read so why not? Anyways, I am not even sure what number this is in the series because there are so many but I did enjoy it quite a bit. I always have fun reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and they honestly take a few hours to finish which was great considering I didn’t manage to read that many books this month! 4/5 stars

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson – It took me a little while to complete this contemporary book, but not because it was bad (it totally wasn’t) but because there was just so much to the story that I wanted time away from the book to think about the characters and their past and current struggles. This book is very moving and deep but also a  very light and fluffy  book at times. It follows twins, Noah and Jude who when they were younger used to be very close but after a devastating accident they begin to drift apart. I absolutely adored this story and recommend it to EVERYONE! 5/5 stars

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling – As always I loved reading this book because the Order and the Phoenix is definitely one of the best in the series, but it is long…very long. Anyways, despite this being one of my favourites, I also have several “issues” with it. I don’t know if I would call them issues but just at times I don’t enjoy reading in Harry’s POV because in this book, he begins getting very dark and moody (there are reasons) and becomes very angry towards everyone except Sirius. I just find this incredibly annoying because after everything the Weasley’s have done for him, he acts slightly bitter towards them at times! Anyways, apart from that I did really love it and cannot wait to continue on re reading this series! 5/5 stars

Those are the 3 books I completed in the month of November and I am really hoping to complete more books in December but we will see! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Guide to Starting a Blog!

NaNoWriMo/Reading Update

So since my last update I have only written 5000 words but compared to nothing that is pretty good. I haven’t written much at all this week because I have had such a busy schedule but since it is finally the weekend, I am going to put some time aside to write. I am also not feeling super motivated to write at the moment, but I think it is just because I need to work out some small things in my story that are making it hard for me to keep writing…anyways though, I am hoping to write another 5000 this weekend!

As for reading, I am doing okay. My main book that I am reading right now is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling and I am over 300 pages into it. I am really enjoying it (obviously) and am happy it is a super long book. Aside from that, I am reading 2 other books. The first one that I am about halfway through is I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. I pick it up maybe 2-3 times a week and read a few pages, and while I am liking it a lot, I enjoy savouring it. The other book I am reading, which I just picked up today and am almost finished already, is Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down by Jeff Kinney. Okay, yes I know these are kid books but when I was growing up I really loved reading them, and even as a teenager they are a fun and quick read. I can blast through these books in like an hour and I have a lot of fun the whole time.

That is all for my NaNoWriMo/Reading Update, and I hope you enjoy 🙂
