September + October 2017 Wrap Up!

I have not been a vivacious reader lately, so since I have only read a few books in the last 2 months, I decided to combine the books I read in September and October into one big wrap up. Hopefully I will start picking up the pace soon, but with NaNoWriMo and school it will be challenging but I am determined to at least read 3 books in November! Anyways, here are the books I read in September and October:

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

This was the one book I read in September and it took me the entire month to read it despite being a short, fun contemporary. I did finish it though and overall really enjoyed it. Geekerella follows a girl named Elle who is obsessed with a sci-fi TV show her father used to love before he died, and when she sees a cosplay contest in celebration of the reboot of the TV series, she enters, the prize being a ticket to ExcelsiCon, she jumps at the chance to make her fangirl dreams true. This is such a fun and entertaining read that I read during a time where I was kind of in a reading slump. This book definitely brought me out of it and I was really glad I finally picked up this newer release! 4/5 stars

Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier

Ruby Red

Ruby Red is a book I rave about on my blog a lot, and as I have mentioned before, it is the perfect to read during the fall time. It takes place in London, has time travel and witty characters that you will love. Ruby Red follows Gwen, a sixteen year old girl born into a time travelling gene, however, her cousin Charlotte is the one believed to possess the gene. That is, until Gwen is taken back in time and her entire world is flipped upside down. This is the first book in the Ruby Red trilogy, and every single book in this trilogy is amazing so if you have NOT checked these books out please do! 4.5 stars

Simon VS the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Abertalli

I decided to pick this book up because the movie will be coming out in spring 2018, and it is also a book I have heard plenty of people rave about. Simon VS the Homo Sapiens Agenda follows Simon, a gay teenager who is “blackmailed” into setting his friend up with this guy named Marty. The book is really light hearted though, and I absolutely flew through this book in a single day!

Those are the three books I read in the months of September and October and I hoped you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: NaNoWriMo Prep #5!

Reading/Writing Update!

I have completed a book!!! After about an odd, irregular month of not really reading, and finishing NO books, I have finished a book. That book is Geekerella by Ashley Poston, a fun, geeky, and relatable contemporary following two different characters, Elle, a passionate fan of a sci-fi TV called Starfield, and Darien, a teenage actor who is casted as the main character in the new Starfield revamp. Overall I really enjoyed this book! I thought it was cute, fast paced and just what I needed to pull myself out of my reading slump. I do think I would have liked it more if I read it while I wasn’t in a reading slump, but I did enjoy it. To hear more of my thoughts on this book, stay tuned for my September 2017 Wrap Up which will hopefully consist of more than one book! Right now, I am about two chapters into my next read, which is Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier. I have read this book about 3 times already…but honestly I think it is the perfect fall read! Anyways, I hopefully will finish that in the next 7 or so days but I am looking forward to re-immersing myself in this world.

Writing time! So I submitted a short story to this writing conference, where the prize is a scholarship that pays for my ticket to go there. I am really hoping I win (obviously), and I will find out on September 30th so fingers crossed. Other than that, I really need to start on my other story for this other writing contest, which has a deadline of October 1st and a maximum word count of 17,000 words…so yeah I need to get started.

That is all for my reading/writing update and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: October TBR 2017!

Reading/Writing Update!

Geekerella by Ashley Poston is still my current read, and while I still haven’t made too much progress in it, I am still really enjoying it! I am about a quarter of the way through but I plan on finishing it by Monday because I have an extra day off of school thankfully. Before this year, I had always been busy but easily managed to stay on top of my blog, reading and school, but this year I am really struggling! Sadly, I have to cut down my blog posts to Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, rather than Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. It is also really sad to look back at last year and see that my average reading a month was anywhere from 3-5 books, and now my average is 1 or less. Hopefully by October I will be able to juggle everything better, but for now this is my current situation. Anyways, back to the reading part of this update, like I said, I want to finish Geekerella by Monday and then jump into one of the other books on my TBR!

Thankfully I have been writing lately, and even submitted to a contest last night which I am very excited about! I have another deadline that is the first day of October that I need to meet, so this weekend and the next coming weeks I will be writing a story for that. This month will be an active writing month and I cannot wait to get back into more writing!

That is all for my reading/writing update and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Favourite Fall Films and also leave some suggestions of blog posts you want to see!

Reading/Writing Update!

Slowly I am getting back into the swing of things and it feels so good honestly. This morning a read about 30 pages of Geekerella by Ashley Poston, which I am very much enjoying at the moment, and have no doubt that I will keep enjoying it. Fingers crossed I can finish it by the end of the weekend, but we will see! Once I finish Geekerella, I plan on picking up The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger by Stephen King, which is the first book in The Dark Tower series. I watched the movie and really liked the storyline and the entire atmosphere of the movie because it was unlike anything I have watched. My friend, who has read the first book, said the book was way better than the movie so I knew I had to pick it up and give it a read. This will be my first Stephen King book and I am so excited and curious to see how I like it!

Finally I have writing things to update on! I mean, I haven’t actually written anything yet, but I have some stories lined up to submit to different contests. I am really excited to start writing again, but after not writing for a few weeks it will be a challenge to come up and write 7 different stories all of the sudden! All of the deadlines are between now and the end of October, but some of those deadlines are approaching very fast so I need to get started.

That is all for my reading/writing update and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: My New and Improved September TBR!

New and Improved September TBR!

Ok, so I have decided to toss my original TBR aside and create a new one because I don’t plan on reading a single book I originally planned to… School started on Tuesday and it has been hectic since trying to get settled into my new school and classes, so I apologize for having no post up on Wednesday but I plan to stay on top of my schedule from now on! Anyways, here is my new and improved TBR for September 2017:

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

I was really excited to read this when I heard the plot, but didn’t end up buying it until a week or two ago. Regardless, I have it now and am several chapters in. I am super pumped to see what I think of this hyped up contemporary but I have no doubt I will love it! Geekerella follows our main character, Elle, who is a massive fan of her father’s favourite TV show, Starfield. When she sees a cosplay contest sponsored by the producers of Starfield she enters it to win a ticket to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and winning could make all her fangirl dreams a reality. Geekerella will be a very relatable and fun read which will hopefully get me out of my reading slump that is rapidly growing.

Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

This is a book I love to read when it is the back-to-school season, which it currently is, so it is a perfect time to pick up this book and give it a re read. This follows a girl named Annabel who looks like she has a perfect life from the outside, but the inside is a totally different story. Over the summer she lost her best friend, it is revealed her sister is struggling from an eating disorder, and Annabel herself is struggling with the realization that she doesn’t want to model anymore, but modeling is something her mother desperately wants for her. Feeling isolated and like she doesn’t belong, she suddenly meets another outcast named, Owen and they form an unlikely relationship. I remember really enjoying this book so I am excited to pick it up again after about a year!

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

lady-midnight-by-cassandra-clare

For some reason I am dying to re read The Dark Artifices trilogy, well the first two books in it anyways. I miss the characters and need more Mark and Christina!!! If you didn’t know, Lady Midnight follows a cast of characters we briefly met in Cassandra Clare’s other series and continues on in the complex Shadowhunter world. I can’t really say much else because you need to read all of her other books before jumping into this trilogy, but there is action and demons and it is definitely worth reading!

Those are the three books I plan on reading this month and fingers crossed I can get them done! I have nine classes I am juggling right now so my mind is a mess, but hopefully reading will take away the stress like it usually does. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Bingeable TV Series!
