May 2017 Talk!

May is filled with new releases and here are a few that I am super excited for!

Books ~

9781408857915A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas – This is the third book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy which is pretty fantastic by the way, so if you haven’t read the first two books…you should go do that. The first book, A Court of Thorns and Roses is loosely based upon Beauty and the Beast, and is about a girl named Feyre who while hunting for her family, kills a faerie disguised as a wolf and as punishment, is forced to live out the rest of her mortal life in the faerie lands. I am super excited to see where this third (and final?) book leads us! A Court of Wings and Ruin comes out on May 2nd.

30145666The Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan – This is the second book in Rick Riordan’s Trials of Apollo series, which I think is a really fun and entertaining series so far. The first book, The Hidden Oracle, follows the sun god Apollo who after angering his father, Zeus, is cast down to Earth as a mortal. Apollo is a hilarious character and the first book had so many great scenes that had me laughing to the point where I had tears, so I am intrigued to see how the second book pans out. This book comes out on May 2nd.

30312860Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han – If you have read previous blog posts of mine, you would know I am a huge fan of Jenny Han’s contemporary trilogy, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, so obviously the third and final book will be on here! The first book, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, follows our main character Lara Jean who has always written love letters to the boys she has loved before, but with no intention of them ever being seen. But when all her love letters are mysteriously sent out, she finds herself digging a deep hole of lies to prevent her current crush from knowing the truth. The first two books are very quirky and fun and I really recommend you read them before the new one comes out! This book comes out on May 2nd.

untitledLord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare – I honestly cannot wait any longer to read this book, because I just know it is going to blow me away. This is a continuation of Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter world, and follows Emma Carstairs who’s parents disappeared during the Dark War but one day wash up on shore, dead. Confused and upset, she struggles to uncover the truth with the help of her best friend, Julian. The first book, Lady Midnight was amazing so I have high hopes! This book comes out on May 23rd.

Movies ~

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Vol.-2-PosterGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – I thought Guardians of the Galaxy was freaking amazing, so I cannot wait to finally see the second one. I am not very good at explaining what the movie is about, but it is a sci-fi movie that has a great soundtrack so that should be enough motivation to watch it! This movie will be in theatres on May 5th.

Diary-of-a-Wimpy-Kid-The-Long-Haul-movieDiary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul – I have been reading the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books since I was a little kid, and honestly I still read them. I really enjoyed the three original movies with Zachary Gordon and Devon Bostick, so I am a little skeptical with this new one but we will see. This movie is about a middle schooler named Greg who’s family is going on road trip for his grandmother’s birthday, but really wants to attend a gaming convention that is on the way there. I don’t have super high hopes but who knows, maybe it will surprise me. This movie comes out on May 19th.

14616_posterEverything Everything – This is also based on a book by Nicola Yoon, and I really enjoyed the book so I am looking forward to the movie next month! Everything Everything is about a girl named Maddie who has been house bound her entire life because she is allergic to everything in the outside world. When a boy named Ollie moves next door though, she finds herself taking new risks and realizing that the way she is living, isn’t really a life at all. The trailer looks amazing and I think this is going to be an amazing book-to-movie adaptation. This movie is in the theatres on May 19th.

Those are all of the books and movies I am excited for next month, and I hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Quick Reads!

Quick Reads!

I love being invested in a nice, big book, but I also enjoy being able to finish a book in one sitting. If you are like that as well, here are a few recommendations for some quick reads!

perksThe Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky – Not only is this a book that sucks you in and doesn’t let you leave, it is not very long (two hundred and thirteen pages). The Perks of Being a Wallflower follows a high school freshman, Charlie, who suffers from a difficult past, but with the help of some new friends, they help him turn things around for the better. This can be a heavy book at times because it deals with mental illness, but it is a very fast paced and fantastic read that you will not want to put down!

just-listenJust Listen by Sarah Dessen – I read Sarah Dessen books very quickly, but this one I managed to read in one sitting because it was just so fast paced. This book follows a girl named Annabel whose life seems perfect, but is anything but. Her life is full of high expectations and no friends to help her through it, until she meets Ollie, a quiet, music loving boy who sheds some light in her world. A fun, quick contemporary!

Everything EverythingEverything Everything by Nicola Yoon – The adaption for this book actually comes out this May, so you better get your hands on it because since it is a quick read, you have time before the movie! Everything Everything is about this girl named Maddie who hasn’t left her house in many, many years because she is allergic to well, everything everything. One day though, a boy named Ollie moves next door and shows her there is more to life than what she knows. This may sound cliché, but trust me, it is not and you will most likely really end up enjoying it!

mebeforeyouMe Before You by JoJo Moyes – I read this book so I could watch the adaptation, which is as amazing as the book, and I read it in one night…which is kind of insane considering it is about four hundred pages. Me Before You is about a young woman named Lou who begins working for a quadriplegic man named Will, who has seemed to have lost the will to live. With a shaky beginning, they grow to care for one another as they go on a journey of struggles, laughs and tears. A quick must read!

harry-potter-philosophers-stone-bookHarry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling – Once you get into the story, the Harry Potter world is something that completely consumes you until you flip to the last page. If for some reason you didn’t know what Harry Potter was…it is about a young boy who on his eleventh birthday discovers he is a wizard. He is sent to a magical boarding school called Hogwarts where he will be able to learn to control his powers, but not everything is as light and fluffy as it seems, because he is also being hunted down by an evil wizard named Voldemort.

Those are five quick reads that I really enjoy, so I hope you will to. Also, don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Unpopular Book Opinions!

Valentine’s Day Recommendations!

It is Valentine’s Day so it gives me an excuse to recommend more contemporary books that I love! Anyways, here are five books that are perfect reads for Valentine’s Day.

anna-kissAnna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins – This was a no brainer. It is the perfect book to pick up on Valentine’s Day because it makes you feel so many things and is just amazing. Anna and the French Kiss is about a girl named Anna who is sent off to a boarding school in Paris for her senior year of high school. There, she meets a group of close knit friends and grows close to them quickly, especially one named Etienne St.Clair. This book is filled with romance, drama and great characters and is a great way to spend your Valentine’s Day.

Me-Before-You-Movie-SoundtrackMe Before You by JoJo Moyes – Me Before You is about a young woman named Louisa Clark who takes a job taking care of a quadriplegic man named Will Trainor after her father looses his job. The story follows their relationship which starts off slow and rocky, but soon they find themselves growing closer together as time goes on. This book plays with your heartstring and leaves a gaping hole in your chest but it is so worth it.

Everything EverythingEverything Everything by Nicola Yoon – The synopsis of this book sounds incredibly cliché but it is much, much more than you expect it to be. Everything Everything follows a girl named Maddie who is allergic to the world and when a boy named Ollie moves in next door she finds herself falling for him. This book totally leaves you dumbfounded but ultimately is a great romance book about desire and trust!

to-all-the-boys-ive-loved-beforeTo All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han – To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is about a girl named Lara Jean who writes letters to all the boys she has loved before, but when they re mysteriously sent out she finds herself digging a deep hole of lies to prevent hurting the people closest to her. This book is filled with awkward and relatable moments and leaves a huge grin on your face. The last book in the trilogy is coming out this year so you should definitely pick up this book!

just-listenJust Listen by Sarah Dessen – You can never go wrong with a Sarah Dessen book so I had to add one onto this list. Just Listen is about a girl named Annabel who is someone who looks like her life is perfect…but its not. After a misunderstanding with her best friend she is left friendless and alone until she meets a mysterious boy named Own who accepts her for who she is, not who everyone believes she is. I absolutely loved this book and flew through it in a matter of hours!

Those are my five Valentine’s Day recommendations and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Books to Read When You’re Bored.

2017 Book-to-Movie Releases!

2017 is going to be a fabulous year for book-to-movie releases and I am oh so excited! I made this blog post to share a few movies I am looking forward to seeing on the big screen and I hope you are excited too!

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver – I recently saw this trailer but never realized it was based on the YA novel by Lauren Oliver which makes me want to see it 10x more! Before I Fall is about a popular teen who continuously relives her life, trying to make herself a better person. The trailer was fantastic and Zoey Deutch who starred as Rose Hathaway in the Vampire Academy movie is playing the lead so get even more excited for this movie which is coming to theatres on March 3rd!

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon – Everything Everything is an amazing book about a young girl named Maddy who hasn’t left her house in 17 years because she is allergic to everything. Because of this, she has formed a very tight relationship with her mother and her nurse, but when a boy named Ollie moves in next door that all changes as she begins to fall in love with a boy she can’t have. I love this book, and I think it will make a great movie! It stars Amanda Stenberg who played Rue in The Hunger Games and Nick Robinson who played Zach in Jurassic World and Ben Parish in The 5th Wave so we already have 2 well known actors starring in it! This movie is released on May 19th.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie – This was already made into a movie in the 1970’s but now they are giving it another go and I am extremely pumped to see this one! Murder on the Orient Express is by THE Queen of Mystery and follows a Belgian detective who investigates the murder of a wealthy American on the Orient Express, the most famous train in the world. This new movie has Daisy Ridley who played Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Johnny Depp from too many movies to even list. I am intrigued to see how this movie goes and we can all see it on November 22!

Those were a few movies that I am personally excited for and I am sure some of you are too!

Upcoming YA Book to Movie Adaptations

Books and movies are most likely some of my favourite things EVER, so when they come together it is amazing…well sometimes. Anyways, here are few movies that are coming soon or are currently in production that are originally YA books!

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs – This movie is coming out on September 30 which is next week and I am so excited to see it! Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a very intriguing and interesting book about a boy named Jacob who travels to the island his grandfather grew up on looking for answers after his complicated death. It has a really creepy and different feeling that I hope they portray well on the big screen!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by JK Rowling – At first I was really confused when I heard this was becoming a movie because the book is very thin but after seeing the trailer I couldn’t be more pumped! The actors look amazing and the concept is something I am interested to see. If you didn’t know, instead of following the wizarding world in Britain, this movies follows a wizard who is part of the American wizarding world. I cannot wait to see this movie which is coming out on November 18.

Let it Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle – I haven’t read this book but apparently it is in production so I will definitely be checking it out! Let it Snow is a collection of short stories that take place during the Christmastime. I don’t know much more than that but keep an eye out next year for it in theatres!

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon – This movie has actually just recently started filming but I am extremely excited to see this in theatres! The two main actors are Nick Robinson who played Ben Parish in the 5th Wave and Amanda Stenburg who played Rue in The Hunger Games! This book is about a girl named Maddie who is allergic to everything and has not been outside for many, many years. One day though, a boy named Ollie moves next door and she instantly falls in love but its hard to be in love when you are allergic to the world. Amazing book and I am so excited to see this movie hopefully next year!

Those are a few somewhat upcoming releases that I am excited for and if you are aware of anymore please comment! I am aware that a few series such as The Throne of Glass, Red Queen and Legend have been optioned so fingers crossed that it comes through!

August Book Haul 2016

I actually wasn’t planning on doing an “August Book Haul” but then it was my birthday…and then I went shopping so I think you can see how that went.

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead – I bought this book at the very beginning of the month and I am so excited to read it! If you didn’t know, the Bloodlines series is a spinoff of the amazing Vampire Academy series and it follows Adrian and Sydney. I am extremely pumped to read this because I love Adrian and Sydney and I love Vampire Academy so there is no reason why I won’t love this series as well.

Empire of Dust by Eleanor Herman – This is the second book in the Blood of Gods and Royals series which is amazing by the way! The first book, Legacy of Kings, follows a series of different characters in the time of Alexander the Great in Greece. This series has lots of action, betrayal, plot twists and is just a fantastic piece of work. If you love Greek mythology, history or just an action packed story then definitely check this series out!

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon – This is a contemporary book about a girl who is allergic to the world and one day, a boy named Ollie moves next door and she finds herself hopelessly falling for him. I finished this book in one sitting and I really liked it! It was cute, enjoyable, and just all around what a good contemporary should be.

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson – I read this book in July and absolutely loved it and now I finally have my own copy so I can read it whenever I want. Since You’ve Been Gone is about Emily who’s best friend Sloane disappears one day, leaving only a checklist for Emily to complete during the summer. Emily goes on an adventure with a few other new friends to complete this list, hoping it will lead her to Sloane. This book is just fun, cute and amazing and I recommend it to everyone!

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas – I read the first book, A Court of Thorns and Roses last month and oh my god. I absolutely adored every single part of this book! The characters, the plot, the world, just everything was phenomenal. A Court of Thorns and Roses is a loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast and it follows a girl named Feyre who is forced to live in the Faerie world, Prythian, as punishment after killing a faerie while hunting. Honestly, if this book is just as good as the first it will have a guaranteed spot in my top 5 favourite series ever.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater – I have wanted to read the Raven Cycle series for a while now but I just have never picked up the first book but now I have! The covers are gorgeous and hopefully the story is just as amazing. Honestly, I don’t really have any idea what it is about but I’m excited going into it like that!

Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen – I’ve been eyeing this book for a while now but my TBR has been so full that I just haven’t picked this book up yet. But, it was on sale for $5 at my bookstore so I just had to get it. Again, not really sure what this book is about but I have a feeling it is about a young woman trying to regain her throne. Anyways, I heard it’s being made into a movie with Emma Watson in it so I just have to read it!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany – Okay so I actually wasn’t planning on buying this book anytime soon for two reasons. 1) It’s way to expensive at the moment 2) I have mixed feelings about it. But I got it for my birthday so I finally get to read it and state my own opinion about it without spending the whole $40…I think I will like it I am just not a huge fan of reading plays but of course I am going to give it a shot.

Those are all the books I purchased this month and 8 books is a massive amount for me to buy in one month. I hope you liked this post and don’t forget to check out my last one!

July and BookTube-A-Thon Wrap Up 2016!!!

July was an AWESOME reading month for me because I read 10 books! The reason I read so many was partly because of BookTube-A-Thon but also because I just flew through every book I read. Since I read so many books I won’t give a description of them just because this would be a super long blog post…anyways I hope you had an amazing reading month too!

Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead was the first book I finished this month and it happened to be the last book in the Vampire Academy series. I was and still am so sad to finish this series but I really enjoyed the finale and I thought it tied up all the loose ends! Vampire Academy was such a fun and amazing series and I am so happy I read it! 4.5/5 stars.

Prodigy by Marie Lu was the second book in the Legend trilogy and I really liked this book! The Legend series isn’t my absolute favourite series, but I do enjoy reading it and I think they are really interesting. Anyways, this is my favourite book out of the three and I loved so many parts of this book! 4.5/5 stars.

Unite Me by Tahereh Mafi is a bind up of two novellas from the Shatter Me world and I just flew through this short book. I really, really loved reading from Warner’s point of view because he is definitely one of my favourite characters and I enjoyed learning more about him! I also liked reading from Adam’s point of view because it reminded me of how much I disliked him…4/5 stars.

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson…I had wanted to read a Morgan Matson book for soooo long and I am so happy that I picked this one up first because let me tell you, it did not disappoint me. I absolutely adored every second of this book! It was fast paced, entertaining, and had a great, complex cast of characters that I loved. I couldn’t ask for a better summer contemporary book! 4.5/5 stars.

Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen is a book I had been putting off for a while but I really don’t know why because it was such a great book. Again, I flew through this easy contemporary and loved every second of it! It felt so real and relatable and I felt a roller coaster of emotions while reading it. Definitely recommend this and Since You’ve Been Gone if you are look for an awesome contemporary! 4.5/5 stars.

Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson was the first book I read for BookTube-A-Thon and I was really pumped to read another Morgan Matson book but it didn’t exactly reach my expectations which I admit, were a bit high after reading Since You’ve Been Gone. I still really enjoyed this book, but I just found it a little slower and I found the main character a bit annoying at times. I understand why though. It was still a good read and a good book to start my BookTube-A-Thon with though! 3.5/5 stars!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling was the second book I read for BookTube-A-Thon and I absolutely loved diving back into the Harry Potter world! It was as magical and fun as always and I was definitely not disappointed. I decided to read a Harry Potter book a month so I am also very excited to continue staying in this amazing world. 5/5 stars.

Champion by Marie Lu was the third book I read for BookTube-A-Thon and while it was a bit slow during the first 100 pages that last 200 plus pages really pulled through and I was glued to the story! I thought it was a great ending that I was satisfied with but that ending still broke me into a million tiny pieces and then glued themselves back messily, but still together…4.5/5 stars.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan was the fourth and final book that I finished during the BookTube-A-Thon and again, like Harry Potter, it was so great jumping back into this crazy world. I am definitely hoping to be able to continue re reading the rest of the series soon! 4/5 stars.

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon…I actually finished this book about half an hour ago and when I say I flew through this book I actually flew through it. I think I read this book in 2 hours because I just found myself continuing the flip to the next page because I really wanted to know how this story was going to end. There were so many different endings and I definitely did not expect it to end like this. I loved it though! Such a cute, amazing, and sad book that you need to read! 4.5/5 stars.

That concludes my massive July wrap up and I hope you liked it! Keep an eye out for my August TBR coming soon!

Contemporary TBR

I love reading contemporary books in the summer because they give me that light, summery feel that we all love! So in this post I am listing the contemporary books that I have yet to read and hopefully will be getting to this summer!

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson – I have wanted to read a Morgan Matson book for a while now so I decided to start with Since You’ve Been Gone because I see it everywhere and have heard amazing things! Since You’ve Been Gone is about a girl named Emily who is suddenly put outside her comfort zone when her friend Sloane disappears and leaves a list of things for Emily to do, and Emily goes on a journey to complete them, hoping they will lure her friend back.

Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen – I’ve been wanting to read this for a while just because I was given it for my 14th birthday but also because I heard it is a great book! I’m not 100% sure what it is about but from what I gathered it is about a girl who is very quiet and out of the spotlight but when her brother is thrown in jail she and her family become the source of reporters.

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon – Again, I’ve heard some many wonderful things about this book and the plot line really intrigues me so I want to read this book ASAP! Everything Everything is about a girl who is allergic to the world so she cannot leave her house. The only people she gets to see on a daily basis are her mother and nurse, but when a new boy moves next door she cannot help but fall for him.

Those were the books on my contemporary TBR and I hope you enjoyed it!
