Books to Read When You’re Bored!

This past weekend I got snowed in and I was super bored so I used my boredom to create a new blog post, so here are a few books that I like to read when I am bored. They captivate you and make you never want to put them down!eleanor%20and%20park2

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell – I talk about this book a lot but I can never stop reading this book when I pick it up. I am engrossed into the story every single time I read Eleanor and Park, and somehow I never seem to get bored of it. Eleanor and Park is about two very different people named Eleanor and Park and about their relationship that starts off shaky but blossoms into some more. I love, love this book and everyone needs to read it!

Ruby RedRuby Red by Kerstin Gier – This is a book on time traveling and I absolutely love it. It follows our main character Gwen who comes from a family of time travellers but it is believed that the gene has skipped her, that is until she finds herself hundreds of years in the past. Now with her new abilities, she is thrust into the hectic world of time traveling totally unprepared. This book has it all! Romance, time travel, humor and overall is a fantastic read that you will not want to put down.

divergent_hqDivergent by Veronica Roth – Divergent has such a unique concept and the writing just flows so nicely that you are whisked away into this world without even realizing it. In Divergent, we follow Tris Prior who after taking an aptitude test that determines where she belongs in her society, finds herself having to hide who she truly is. While in my opinion the last two books in this dystopian trilogy are not as good, the first one is definitely worth the read!

thesummeriturnedprettyThe Summer I Turned I Pretty by Jenny Han – This is summer contemporary book that is such a fun and easy going read. You are easily locked into this summery beach scene and overall it is just a fun time. The Summer I Turned Pretty is about our main character named Belly who is returning to the beach house she has spent her summers at since she was little. There she reunites with old family friends Conrad and Jeremiah and together they have a summer filled with romance, drama and fun.

PJOPercy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan – In this book, we follow Percy Jackson a sarcastic and snarky character who after finding out his father is a Greek God, is thrust into a crazy world of monsters and demigods while also being blamed for stealing Zeus’s lightning bolt. Determined to prove he is not the thief, he goes on a journey to find it along with two friends before the summer solstice. This book is filled with awesome adventure and hilarious moments so I really recommend you pick it up if you haven’t. You won’t regret it!

Those are some books to read if you are bored and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Reading/Writing Update!

Beginner’s Guide To: Contemporaries!

I obviously love contemporaries because I tend to read 3-5 a month so I thought I would start a series inspired by Christine (Polandbananasbooks) series on her YouTube channel where I recommend some contemporaries if you are new to the genre or the need some more recommendations!

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins – I know I recommend this book a lot, but it is a must read contemporary and is also a perfect book to welcome you into the contemporary world. Anna and the French Kiss follows a girl named Anna who is sent off to a boarding school in Paris for her senior year of high school. There, she meets a group of close knit friends and is immediately drawn to one of them named Etienne St. Clair. We watch their relationship grow as obstacles are thrown in their way and overall is a heart breakingly sweet contemporary!

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell – This is such a cute book that shows that being love shouldn’t have to do with how you look, but with who you are. It follows our 2 main characters Eleanor and Park who come from completely different worlds but somehow manage to form a relationship that really blossoms throughout the book. You feel a lot of strong emotions reading this book and it is just a fantastic book!

Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen – If you are reading contemporary you have to read a Sarah Dessen book because she is one of the Queen’s of contemporary! Saint Anything is about a girl named Sydney who is always used to being in the shadows until her brother, Peyton, is arrested and suddenly a spotlight is directed on her. Now feeling lost in her family and her place in the world, she goes to a pizza parlor and finds it to be a place where she is welcomed. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it!

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han – I love, love, love this book with all my heart because it is everything you could want in a contemporary! In this book we follow Lara Jean, a girl who has been writing love letters to the boys she loved since she was young, and when the letters mysteriously get sent out, she finds herself digging a deep hole if lies to prevent the boy she currently likes from finding out the truth because if he found out it could hurt the people closest to her. This book makes you grin with happiness and melts your heart with every turn of the page.

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson – Since You’ve Been Gone is such a fun, summery contemporary read because we follow our main character, Emily, who’s best friend Sloane mysteriously disappears but leaves a bucket list behind for Emily to complete. Convinced it will lead her to her friend, Emily sets off to complete this bucket list with the help of a few new friends. Ugh, this book was such a fun journey to read during the summer, but honestly you can read it whenever and wherever!

Those are some contemporaries to start or hopefully continue your love of contemporary and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to comment some other contemporaries you love and also check out my last blog post: January 2017 Wrap Up!

January 2017 Wrap Up!

Tc-alwayssummerhis is my first wrap up of the year and luckily, I managed to complete a good amount of books!

We’ll Always Have the Summer by Jenny Han – This is the 3rd and final book in the Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy and I really enjoyed the trilogy overall. The trilogy follows Belly as she returns to the summerhouse that she has spent every summer in since she was little, with her mom, brother and her mom’s best friend who has 2 sons. We follow Belly’s summer which is filled with jealousy, romance and fun and is overall a really entertaining, fast paced read. 4/5 starsobsidian-cover5

Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout – This is the 1st book in the Lux series and follows Katy, a senior who for her last year of high school has moved to West Virginia with her mom for a fresh start. But when she moves next to a pair of unusual and different twins named Dee and Daemon Black, her entire life is flipped upside down. This was a re read, and as always I loved this book. The writing isn’t amazing or anything, but the plot is very gripping along with the cast of kickass characters! 4.5/5 starsonyx-cover-2

Onyx by Jennifer L Armentrout – This is the 2nd book in the Lux series, and I won’t say what happens because that would give away spoilers…but what I can say is that things get so twisted and knotted in this book that you start to wonder how in the world they will ever fix all these problems! I did really enjoy re reading this book and Daemon is amazing as always. 4/5 starsatorchagainstthenight_cv-4-14-687x1024

A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir – This is the sequel to An Ember in the Ashes which by the way, was a fantastic book. I was really curious to see if this book would live up to the 1st book and while it was almost as amazing, it was still a flipping amazing read that I treasured so much! An Ember in the Ashes is about a girl named Laia who’s brother is one day kidnapped by the Empire, and she goes on a journey to save him. There are relationships that make your heartache and sacrifices that will leave tears in your eyes. A must read! 4.5/5 stars

Fangirfangirl_coverdec2012l by Rainbow Rowell – Fangirl is such a light hearted, relatable book that I could read over, and over, and over again. It follows a girl named Cath who is entering her first year of college with her twin sister, Wren. While Cath wants to stick close to Wren’s side, Wren wants to be wild and free, leaving Cath behind in the dust. But when Cath’s new roommate, Raegan and her ex boyfriend take Cath under their wing, she learns to dip outside her comfort zone a bit and things get interesting…Highly recommend this amazing contemporary if you haven’t read it already! 4.5/5 starseleanor%20and%20park2

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell – Again, I could read Eleanor and Park for weeks upon end, but I try to minimize it to once a year because I do like to cherish it. Anyways, Eleanor and Park follows our 2 main characters, Eleanor and Park who’s relationship starts off weird and rocky, but soon blossoms into something more. Eleanor and Park is such a heartfelt book that hits you straight in the feels! 5/5 stars

Those were all the books I managed to read this month and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Quick Writing Tips!

Reading/Writing Update!

Sorry I didn’t post anything yesterday, I had no energy after a full week of exams! Also, this blog turned 1 year old yesterday which is so exciting and I just want to thank all of you for an amazing year. I love blogging and am so happy to continue it!

Anyways, now onto what I have been reading lately. I recently completed Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and ugh, it was such a good re read! It was so light hearted and easy going and was what I NEEDED after all the studying and exams I did this week. I also needed to bump up my book count for this month and I knew I would get through that book quickly and as usual I did. Now since I am finished, I really want to re read Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell since I am in the mood for her books so I will probably start that today! Other than that, since it is February next week, I am hoping to start on my TBR by trying to read Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard.

For writing I have done absolutely nothing. The reason behind that is mostly because I was way, way to busy to set an hour aside just to focus writing. Since my school life has slowed down a bit, I want to jump back into writing again either this week or the following. I am still incredibly pumped to continue on with my idea and I cannot wait to dive deeper into it!

That is all for my Reading/Writing Update and I hope you enjoyed!

Books to Read Before You Finish High School!

All these books on this list I recommend everyone to read, but these are ones that I feel like are very relatable and eye opening for people still in high school. Overall though, they are all amazing books that everyone should read!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky – This book deals a lot with mental health issues, which is something that a lot of people deal with. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is about a boy named Charlie who is entering in his first year of high school and meets a group of odd, confident people who really help him feel happy and not so lonely. It is an amazing book that you will not want to put down!

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare – I highly recommend everyone read this, but the reason it is on this list is because of the characters. The characters are very diverse and different, and anyone who reads it can find someone they relate to somewhat. City of Bones follows Clary, who after the sudden disappearance of her mother is thrown into a new world of Shadowhunters and demons in order to get her mother back. This book is fun and fast paced, and I absolutely adore it!

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell – Again, this book deals with mental health issues, but is not as heavy as The Perks of Being a Wallflower. In Fangirl, we follow Cath, a book loving, shy girl who is entering her first year of college with her twin sister, Wren. While Cath wants to stick tight to her sister’s side, Wren wants to adventure off and be her own person, leaving Cath in the dust. But when Cath meets her new roommate and her roommate’s friend, Levi, they help push her out of her little comfort bubble and things get interesting. This book is a great read!

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell – I love this book because it gives off the message that the person you fall in love with may be the person you least expect. It shares that love is not about what you look like but who you are on the inside and it is really beautiful. Eleanor and Park is about 2 teenagers named Eleanor, who is a big red head and Park, a quiet music lover. When they meet, they slowly build an odd relationship that eventually blossoms into something more. When you read this book you cannot put it down!

Those are a few books that you should definitely read before you finish high school, but even if you had you should still read them!

Easy Reads!

Some books are really hard to read, and require a lot of focus like high fantasy, but then there are other books that are fun, fast paced and just super easy to get into. While high fantasy is amazing, sometimes you just want to let your mind have a break, so here are some easy book recommendations!

Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout – This is the first book in the Lux series which is a very fun and entertaining book series. Obsidian follows a girl named Katy who’s mother has decided to try and move on after the death of Katy’s father, and moved them to West Virginia where they end up moving in next to 2 strange twins, Dee and Daemon Black. After meeting them, her world is flipped upside down as she learns the truth about who they really are. I love this series, and am currently re reading it just because it so fun and easy to read.

The Selection by Kiera Cass – While this book and its whole series has some mixed reviews, I adore it. It is light hearted and fast paced and the plot is just a really fun idea. In The Selection, we follow America Singer, a young woman who is picked to compete for the Prince of Illea’s heart but she finds it hard when her heart is elsewhere. Throughout the novel she gets to know the Prince and the other women competing and things get complicated…I really recommend this if you want to read a series where you fly through all the books in no time!

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell – When I read this book I could just not put it down until I finished the entire thing. Rainbow Rowell has a way of making her books complicated, yet extremely easy to read. Eleanor and Park follows 2 characters, Eleanor who is a big, oddball red head and Park, a music loving, moody person. When Eleanor starts going to Park’s school she catches his attention, but not in the way you think. They begin talking and really getting to know each other and soon their strange friendship blossoms into something more. This book is so heart wrenching and heart warming and you all need to read it now!

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han – This is a summer romance book so obviously it is going to be a fun read but for some reason, this book sticks out above a lot of contemporary I have read! In The Summer I Turned Pretty, our main character Belly is going to the summer house she has been going to since she was a young along with her mom’s best friend and her 2 sons. But now Belly is older and the 2 boys, Jeremiah and Conrad had seem to notice too. There is lots of romance, friendship and tears throughout this novel and it is great.

Those are a few easy reads recommendations and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: My 2017 Writing Routine!

Reading/Writing Update!

It is that time of the week again so here is a quick update on where I am in my reading and writing update!

This week I have read about 300 pages of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince but the last 2 days I haven’t read anything…I just have been too exhausted to read before bed, which is when I usually get my reading done, but I want to get as much reading done as I can this weekend. I would really like to finish The Half Blood Prince by Wednesday but if not oh well. I would also like to read a contemporary this weekend…I am just in the mood for something fun and light but not sure which one. I am deciding between Eleanor and Park or To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (both would be re reads) but they are both so amazing so its too hard to decide.

For writing, it was another week of nothing…well sort of. On Sunday last week, I attending a write-in writing competition and wrote a 3 page story. The writing competition was really fun and it was a great way to just write without overthinking too much. I am not sure how great my story was but it was nice to just have 3 hours to write in silence without being distracted. I do have a plan to start writing this idea I have been thinking about for a while now, but I am waiting until January 1st to start that because around that time I won’t be busy and it is the start of the new year, so I think it will be the perfect time to write. I am really excited to write about this idea, but I do need some more time to work certain things out but I am almost there!

That is all for my reading and writing update and I hope you enjoyed it!

Books That Need a Sequel!

Sometimes when a book ends, it doesn’t need a squeal…but when you finish it and there are a whole bunch of open ended questions, you want the answers to them! Here are a few books that I personally think should have a sequels. It doesn’t have to be a long sequel, just one that answers all of my questions. (P.S May contain spoilers below)

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell – Umm I bet you are all thinking the same because that ending left us with nothing! It seems like Rainbow Rowell enjoys leaving us with unanswered questions in the end because she does it a lot. I want to know how Park lives his life after Eleanor leaves him with a terrible explanation…does he meet someone else? Or can his undying love for Eleanor never go away? Also, what happens to Eleanor? Is she happy with her new life, or does she maybe regret the choices she has previously made? Answers to all these things would be great Rainbow Rowell!!!

Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins – These books end with no cliff hangers or anything, but I want to see how all these characters live their lives after the events in these books! I want to see them happy and how their future lives play out. I would be fine with no sequel but I would love to read one…

Paper Towns by John Green – I didn’t love this book, but I did not find it satisfying that Quentin just gave up on Margo after she turned him down. Like yes, Margo is not good for him whatsoever but if he actually loved her he wouldn’t let her go that easy! I want to know if he tries to go after her again, or if he finds someone new…what happens?!

The One by Kiera Cass – I know we have The Heir and The Crown that take place years later after The One, but I want a sequel solely based on Maxon and America and their lives right after they get married and Maxon gets crowned King! I love them together and am dying to see what happens on their honeymoon, and when they first get pregnant with Eadlyn. It doesn’t even have to be a full book, a novella would be fine by me.

Anyways, those are a few books I would really like sequels too! I hope you enjoyed and don’t forget to check out my last blog post: December 2016 Talk!

Rainy Day Reads

I was inspired to do a rainy day book recommendations because its raining…in June. Anyways these are some books I like to read during the rain and I hope you like them!

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi is the first book in the amazing Shatter Me trilogy and I’m not exactly sure why this makes me think of a rainy day but it is just a fantastic book that you want to curl up with and not put down. If you didn’t know, Shatter Me follows a girl named Juliette who has a terrible but powerful power. She can kill with her touch. Because of this, she was locked away but when a mysterious person is tossed in her cell with her, they manage to bust out but she doesn’t realize how many people want to use her as a weapon until it’ too late.

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell is a contemporary that gives you that warm and cozy feeling which you want to feel when it’s raining. Eleanor and Park is about a girl and a boy who unexpectedly fall for each other despite all the complications in their lives. It shows that you can be loved no matter your differences which is really beautiful. This book is just so cute and great and I totally recommend it!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling is such a feel good book because for lots of people it brings back wonderful memories! If you haven’t read this series yet you really need to because its so good! If you don’t exactly know what this series is about it follows young Harry, an orphan, who uncovers the truth of who he really is, a wizard. A wizard with a powerful dark lord after him!

The Selection by Kiera Cass is my last book recommendation and this is just a really easy and fun read that I think a lot of you would enjoy! This series is about a girl named America Singer who becomes part of Prince Maxon’s selection, which is a competition for the prince’s heart. America doesn’t exactly want to be there though because her heart is elsewhere but things can change in the selection…

That is my rainy day book recommendations post and I hope you enjoyed it!
