Reading + Writing Update – BookTubeAThon Days 6 +7

I have been TERRIBLE at updating y’all on my reading progress this readathon, but it is the last day of the BookTubeAThon and I am here to update you all on what I did manage to get done.

The last few days have just been a weird type of busy. I haven’t been productive whatsoever, but it has been a blur of going out with friends and kind of being social. Sadly, my reading and writing suffered because of it, and I did not get nearly as much done this week as I hoped…First off, I never did finish Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman but I am about 200 pages in and in love with it. Hopefully I will be able to finish the last half of it early this coming week, because there are so many books I am anxious to get to in the last few weeks of my summer vacation: The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater, Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, Love & War by Melissa De La Cruz…yeah the list goes on and on. I did get four and a half books read this readathon though, which is more than I would read any other week so I am not too upset about that. The books I did manage to finish were:

  • Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire – 4/5 stars
  • Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins – 4.5/5 stars
  • City of Bones by Cassandra Clare – 4.5/5 stars
  • Fullmetal Alchemist Volume One by Hiromu Arakawa – 4/5 stars

As for writing…I think I only wrote like 7k words this week which is a lot less than what I usually write, but still better than nothing. I am almost 70k deep into my current WIP which is crazy and I am so, so excited to keep inching closer to the end. I have not written in like three WHOLE days which is crazy, and I am itching to write, but I know my creative well really needed a lengthy creative break. Apart from my WIP, I also wanted to have a short story written and then jump into edits this coming week, however that definitely did not happen. There were a lot of gaps in my outline of it so I am going to go back and reshape it before attempting to write it again this week. Hopefully it will go quicker than the first attempt, because I really do want to have a good handful of short stories ready to send around by the end of August!

Anyways, that is all I have to update you on and I hope you enjoyed following me along my BookTubeAThon 2018 journey! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post, as well as all my social media accounts which are linked down below. Thanks for reading 🙂

Reading Update – BookTubeAThon Day 3

Happy day 3 of the BookTubeAThon!

While I didn’t get as much done as I hoped, I did read about 200 more pages of City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, meaning I have 170ish pages left. I have no doubt I will be able to finish it tomorrow, but I got kind of lazy with reading today and didn’t get as much done as I know I could have. Hopefully, I will feel motivated enough to finish the last bit of City of Bones tomorrow morning, and then start on my next book. Speaking of next books, I decided to add Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman to my TBR for the week. Smart idea? Probably not. After reading Scythe just over a week ago though, I am eager to get into the sequel ASAP so why not tomorrow? Also, I could count it for the challenge to read a book with green on the cover because the whole thing is in fact, green. I also started reading volume one of Fullmetal Alchemist (why can’t I read the books I planned to, I have no idea!)…I don’t plan on counting it towards my TBR, but if I end up failing at reading for the rest of the week, I will definitely consider finding a challenge for it!

Anyways, that is all for this reading update and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget out to check out my last blog post, as well as my social media accounts all linked below. This BookTubeAThon, I have been participating in the Instagram challenges, so if you are curious to see mine check out my Instagram 🙂

Reading Update – BookTubeAThon Day 1 + 2

Last night, I fell asleep before I could write an update but to be honest, there wasn’t much to update on. I didn’t finish any books even though I decided to start with Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire, which is less than 200 pages. Overall, I got to page 61 in Every Heart a Doorway, and listened to 3ish hours of Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins yesterday…

Today however, I did get books read. Thankfully. This morning I squeezed in reading time between writing sessions, and managed to finish the last 120ish pages of Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. I had high expectations going into this book because I have heard nothing but fantastic things, and luckily, I did enjoy it. It was strange, dark, and mystical, giving me Narnia vibes much like one of my previous reads, The Light Between Worlds by Laura E. Weymouth. I will probably continue on with the series, but I am kind of disappointed that I didn’t adore it as much as everyone else did, but it still gets a solid 4/5 stars from me! Along with challenge one, I also completed challenge two: to read a book about something you want to do. I chose Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins because it takes place in San Francisco which is somewhere I want to travel to, and decided to listen to it via audiobook. Of course, I loved it as I always do. It is really nice to be on track so far, and I even started by next book today, City of Bones by Cassandra Clare which will satisfy challenge three: read and watch a book-to-movie adaptation. Currently, I am 150ish pages into it out of 500ish, so I have high hopes I will be able to get it read tomorrow!

Before I finish this update, I actually got an honourable mention for the day 2 BookTubeAThon Instagram book stack challenge! It was a lot of fun to make this book stacked desk, and you should definitely check it out on my Instagram which is linked below 🙂

Anyways, that is all for my day 1 and 2 reading update, and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post and my social media, all linked below.

BookTubeAThon 2018 TBR

We have three days left before the annual BookTubeAThon begins; a seven day readathon with reading, video, and Instagram challenges! I am so excited about these challenges and all the books I have chosen for them, so let’s get into this TBR so I can share all the amazing books.

1. Let a Coin Toss Decide Your First Read

The two books I flipped a coin for were Love & War by Melissa de la Cruz and Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. I was happy with either book, but I was really hoping for Every Heart a Doorway because 1) I have heard AMAZING things about it and 2) it is less than 200 pages. When I flipped the coin thought it landed on tails which I used to represent Every Heart a Doorway, so that is what I will be reading for this challenge! It is the first book in a fantasy series that I don’t really know the specifics about, but am looking forward to finally joining the bandwagon!

2. Read a Book About Something You Want to Do

While I have been to California plenty of times, I have never been to San Francisco and for some reason, I’ve always really wanted to. That is why for this challenge, I will be reading Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. I have read this summer contemporary book countless times, but I am dying for a re-read so it is the perfect time to pick up this book during the readathon because I know I will fly through it. This follows a girl named Lola whose life seems almost perfect until her first love and first heartbreak moves back next door, flipping her entire world upside down.

3. Read and Watch a Book to Movie Adaptation

I was really looking forward to this one because not only have I been dying to re-read City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, but I have also been wanting to give the movie another watch since it has been a while. This challenge came at the perfect time, and I feel like this is going to make me want to re-read the entire series…City of Bones by Cassandra Clare is the first book in The Mortal Instruments series which follows a world that has Shadowhunters, a species that is both angel and human, whose duty is to rid the world of demons. Our main character, Clary discovers she is a Shadowhunter, and together we are thrust into this crazy, dark world with her.

4. Read a Book with Green on the Cover

I will be doubling up this challenge (unless I manage to find some time to read another book) and reading City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.

5. Read a Book While Wearing the Same Hat the Whole Time

I love this challenge! I don’t usually wear hats but maybe this will be the challenge that gets me into wearing them more often…probably not, but that’s okay. For this challenge, I will be reading A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab, a fantasy book where our main character Kell can jump between the different Londons in this world; Red London, Grey London, White London, and once upon a time, Black London. This was on my Biannual Bibliothon TBR but I never actually got around to it so hopefully I will this time!

6. Read a Book With a Beautiful Spine

I think the spine for Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo is really pretty (and it has been on my TBR since the beginning of time), so I have decided to read it for this challenge. This takes place in the Grisha Verse…which I don’t know anything about. I have heard good things though so I am hoping I ill like it as much as everyone else seems to!

7. Read 7 Books

I have a few options for this one, and it all just depends what I am the mood for when the time comes. Some of my options are Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne and Love & War by Melissa de la Cruz. It might be something totally different in the end, but right now I have nooo idea what I will feel like reading.

That is all for my BookTubeAThon 2018 TBR, and I hope you enjoyed! If you are also participating let me know what you plan to read in the comments below! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post, as well as all of my social media accounts linked below 🙂
