The Coffee Book Tag

Happy Thursday!

Since the school season is in full swing, I thought it would be appropriate to do the coffee book tag as coffee is the one and the only thing that is getting me through my life currently.  I am a HUGE coffee addict and have been since I was 14. I use the excuse that I started working early and long hours when I was 12, so I needed it to survive, but now I have no other excuse except I am just addicted. But I’ve come to terms with that by now.

Anyways, let’s jump into this awesome book tag!

1. Black: Name a Series That’s Tough to Get Into But Has Hardcore Fans

Image result for the mortal instruments series

Personally, I love my coffee black so this is probably my favourite question. I would have to say a series that is tough to get into but has hardcore fans is The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. If you did not read them when you were younger and YA was still in its earlier stages, I feel like it is really hard to fall for Clare’s first series. The writing isn’t as good and it is very basic YA, to be honest. However, the people who do like it (like myself) don’t usually just like it but are hardcore fans. This is one of my favourite series but if I read it for the first time now, I doubt I would like it as much.

2. Peppermint Mocha: Name a Book That Gets More Popular During the Winter or a Festive Time of Year

Image result for harry potter book one

Harry Potter is always popular, but as soon as winter creeps closer, it is suddenly on everyone’s TBRs. I know personally, I tend to watch the movies during the winter season so I can attest that this is true. Harry Potter does get more popular during the wintertime and I am not complaining. It has that cozy atmosphere that people crave to read during the cooler months.

3. Hot Chocolate: What Is Your Favourite Children’s Book?

Image result for junie b jones

It has been a long while since I read these books, but I remember having such fond memories of them and just devouring one after the other in the series. And that series is the Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park. I borrowed the books from my cousin when I was younger, but ended up “borrowing” them for at least a few months. They are fun and adorable, and I suddenly have the urge to give them a re-read now!

4. Double Shot of Espresso: Name a Book That Kept You On the Edge of Your Seat From Start to Finish

Image result for the cruel prince

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black was yet another hyped up YA book that I was skeptical at how much I would actually enjoy it, but in the end, I really liked it and flew through it. It is on the shorter side, and I found myself flipping each page in anticipation for more. I lived for the conflict and the characters and had a blast reading it.

5. Starbucks: Name a Book You See Everywhere

Image result for six of crows

This is a book I just finished reading that is incredibly hyped up and easily found on every BookTube channel. While I thought it was a good book, it didn’t blow my mind like it did for many other people. That book is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. It was a solid 4 star read, but nowhere near a favourite for me. I can’t escape it though. It’s everywhere!

6. That Hipster Coffee Shop: Give a Book By An Indie Author a Shoutout

Sadly, I haven’t gotten around to many indie author books so I think that is something I will have to work on in the future! Let me know below if you know any good indie authors I should check out.

7. Oops! I Accidentally Got Decaf: Name a Book You Were Expecting More From

Image result for six of crows

Once again, I am going to have to say Six of Crows. Due to its immense amount of hype, I went in expecting an almost flawless book that I just couldn’t help but adore. I did like it, but it was nowhere near the 5-star read I was hoping for.

8. The Perfect Blend: Name a Book Or Series That Was Both Bitter and Sweet, But Ultimately Satisfying

Image result for eliza and her monsters

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia is a YA contemporary standalone about a girl who is trying to survive her last year of school and continue anonymously running her webcomic, Monstrous Sea, which happens to be the biggest webcomic online. Juggling all this, it is inevitable for Eliza to go through ups and downs. Especially considering her shyness and anxiety, but with the help of friends, especially Wallace, she learns how to attempt to balance it all. Sometimes Eliza annoyed me, but ultimately, I loved the book and it wrapped up in a way that was satisfying to me.

Those are all my questions for the coffee book tag and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post as well as my social media accounts which are linked down below. Also, if you want to support me and my blog, buy me a coffee with the link down below! Thanks for reading 🙂

January 2018 Talk!

This is my first talk for the new year and I am so excited to jump into 2018 in just only 14 days! If you didn’t know, in these “talks” I discuss all the new book releases and movies that are coming out in the following month that I am personally eager about. Hopefully some of these you are excited for as well, but if they aren’t, definitely comment on some books and movies you are looking forward to on the month of January!

Books

Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings

Image result for zenith book

This is a book written by two YouTubers I watch, and I am so proud and excited to pick up their book! Sasha Alsberg is the BookTube channel @abookutopia, and was the first BookTube channel I ever subscribed to. She is amazing, as well as @LindsayCummings, a wonderful AuthorTuber that I have also been subscribed to for sometime now. Their book Zenith, is set in the Mirabel Galaxy, and takes place when an all girl’s crew, called the Marauders, routine mission goes wrong. I am really excited to read this because it has been ages since I read a sci-fi book and I have a feeling I will absolutely adore this novel! This book is released on January 16th.

Keeper by Kim Chance

Image result for keeper by kim chance

Keeper is a book by an AuthorTuber, @KimChance who I watch, and I am really excited to see how far she has come and pick up her book in January. It has a really interesting plot and I am dying to get my hands on it! Keeper follows sixteen year old Lainey, who after being attacked by a witch, she discovers that the attack wasn’t random, and that she is a type of a witch called a Keeper. This kind of witch can unlock the power of a magical spell book that is missing, the Grimoire, and Lainey has to find it before an evil warlock gets to it first. I haven’t read many witch books but I am thrilled that this will be one of them! This book is released on January 30th.

Movies

The Maze Runner: The Death Cure

Image result for the maze runner the death cure

This is a movie that has been long awaited after being postponed due to Dylan O’Brien being injured onset…luckily his injuries were minor so he is well and the film is finally being released into the world! I have to say, I did enjoy the first movie enough, and the second one was okay, but I am not entirely sure how much I will love this movie. Since this is the third installment, I won’t say too much other than the first movie/book follows our main character, Thomas, who wakes up in a strange maze filled with dozens of boys who all don’t have any recollection of their pasts. As time passes, the boys begin to realize there was a reason that they were placed in this maze, and that it isn’t a simple one. This movie is released on January 26th.

Those are all of the books and movies that I am looking forward to in the month of January, and I hope you enjoyed! Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: Reading/Writing Update 🙂

AuthorTuber & BookTuber Recommendations!

YouTube has expanded into a such a massive platform that is filled with content that will have you glued to your computer screen for hours. I love YouTube and watch a wide variety of channels daily. However, I will only be sharing some amazing AuthorTubers (YouTubers who are authors and discuss their processes and craft) and BookTubers (YouTubers who discuss books), because those are the two genres of YouTubers that fit the best with my blog! If you have any other channel recommendations please leave them below because I am always looking for more YouTubers to watch!

AuthorTubers:

Lindsay Cummings – Lindsay Cummings is the author of the Murder Complex series as well as Zenith which she co-writes with BookTuber, Sasha Alasberg. I have not read any of her books (yet), but I really enjoy her videos which give us insight on the life of an author and also ways to improve our writing.

Image result for kristen martin channel;Kristen Martin – Kristen Martin is an AuthorTuber that I have found recently and I absolutely love her videos! She is a self-published author of a sci-fi series called The Alpha Drive trilogy, and is an Amazon best-selling author. Apart from self-publishing all of her books, she also has a full-time job and uploads 2 writing filled videos per week on her YouTube channel. Kristen Martin inspires me to be more productive with my life and writing overall, and she shares helpful wisdom on writing!

Image result for shaelin writes

ShaelinWrites – Shaelin is also a new AuthorTuber for me, but I really like watching her because like myself, she is a younger writer and has accomplished so much! She is writing major in university, which is something I have always had an interest in doing, so I found her videos describing her first and second year as a writing major very helpful and eye opening. It is is great watching a young writer chase her dream, because it inspires me to not give up when things get tough which is something all writers struggle with.

BookTubers:

Image result for abookutopiaabookutopia (Sasha Alsberg) – I mentioned Sasha Alsberg when recommending Lindsay Cummings channel because they co-wrote Zenith together, a sci-fi, YA novel. Sasha was originally a BookTuber who I have been watching for years now, but over the years she has incorporated writing into her videos which I have really enjoyed. I would be surprised if you are a lover of books and writing and haven’t heard of her, but if you haven’t please check her out!

Image result for peruseprojectPeruseProject (Regan) – Regan is another favourite BookTuber of mine who reviews and recommends books, but also dabbles in fashion and has been putting out a lot of fun vlogs lately! She has a very broad reading taste which I think is great because it makes me want to read books that aren’t generally in a genre I would read. For example, I have had the urge to read historical fantasies because she is a huge fan of those, and that is a genre I don’t generally read.

Image result for readbyzoereadbyzoe (Zoe Herdt) – I would be lying if I said the reason I found Zoe wasn’t because I saw that we have the same name…but regardless I was so glad I found her channel because she is one of my favourite BookTubers! Lately she has been doing a lot of readathon vlogs where she reads as many pages/books she can in a day, which is really inspiring me to start reading more again. I used to read all the time, but now I am getting close to being done with high school so the workload is a lot more. Anyways, her channel is amazing so please, check her out too!

Those are a few AuthorTubers and BookTubers that I love to watch, but if you have more recommendations (especially in the AuthorTuber category), then please leave them below. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post: NaNoWriMo 2017 Week 2: Tips and Tricks!

Reading Update!

Hey guys! Sorry I have been kind of off and on lately, I’ve been busy with Camp NaNoWriMo, other writing projects and of course, reading. Since I’ve been busy I decided to update you guys with a reading update!

So I finally completed Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead a few days ago, and it is the final book in the Vampire Academy series. I was really sad to finish it but it was such a great series and I am definitely glad I picked it up. Since I finished that series, I moved back to the Legend trilogy by Marie Lu which I started last month. At the moment I am about 270 pages into the second book, Prodigy and I am loving it so much! Very excited to finish it because its amazing, and so I can get onto my next book: Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson! I have never read a Morgan Matson book but I have heard her books are amazing so I am ecstatic to finally be able to read one. After that I will be reading books I have picked out for the Booktube-A-Thon because I will be participating in that this year! I am actually working on creating my YouTube channel at the moment but I most likely will have my first video up tomorrow which will be my Booktube-A-Thon TBR so stay tuned for that! If you are curious, my channel is the same as my blog, mylifewithbooks and I really hope some of you check out my video when it goes up and hopefully you all will like it. I have been wanting to create a channel for a while now and I am finally just going for it so hopefully I will be decent at it!

Anyway that is all for this reading update and I will be back soon with another blog post!

Top 5 Favourite Authors

There are so many amazing authors out there to choose from but I managed to narrow it down to my top 5. These are just authors who if they publish a book no matter what it is about I will pick it up! Comment below your favourite authors because I would love to know! (BTW these are not in a specific order)

Rick Riordan ~ The Percy Jackson series was the series that got me into reading and I think because of that I will always love his books and I will always keep picking them up! His writing is really funny and all his characters are so unique! He also keeps coming out with new books based on different mythologies and I looove mythology so it’s a huge bonus.

Rainbow Rowell ~ Rainbow Rowell’s books are just so cute and quirky that every single book I have picked by her, I’ve loved. Fangirl: Absolutely adored it. Eleanor and Park: Loved it. Carry On: Amazing. And yes I know those are not all of her books but those are just my 3 favourites are hers!

How I Read

image1 (3)

I had been in a reading slump for about a month now because after Lady Midnight it seemed as if I would never read a book as amazing as that ever again but I think I finally managed to pull myself out so since I have been reading again, I thought I would share with you guys my reading routine and how I like to read

I tend to do most of my reading in my bed, right before I go to sleep because there are less distractions but occasionally I will read on my couch that I have in my bedroom because it is equally as comfy. I just fluff up some pillows, make some tea and dive into my book. I usually read anywhere from 20-100 pages in one sitting. It just really depends on how I am liking the book. If the book is meh I might be able to get through 30 pages but if it is still boring I will most likely just set it down and pick up another. When I read I switch positions a lot…I may start by just sitting regularly but by the end I am either on my stomach or lying on my back with my leg thrown over the back of the couch. I just find those positions more comfortable rather than just sitting for some reason.

That was a quick summary of how I read and if you want to check out my last post it was an original book tag I created so you should definitely check it out!
