Books I Want to Read Before College

Yesterday was my first day of senior year which means time is ticking before I finally go to college. I thought it would be fun to make a list of books I really want to read (or re-read) before college, because I know when it starts I won’t have much time for reading. Not only will I be trying to handle all the school work given to me this year though, but I also want to keep working on my own writing projects and my blog. So, today I compiled a list of 6 books I want have to read this year and here they are!

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

This is a MASSIVE fantasy book that has received so much amazing hype. However, I still haven’t read it. I own it so I could read it whenever but to be honest, it is really intimidating. I do want to get to it ASAP though because I know I will not be able to dedicate time to read this in the future, and want to make sure I read it when I have time, which is right now. Children of Blood and Bone like I said, is a YA fantasy book influenced by West African mythology and that is about as much as I know but enough for me to be really excited to dive into it.

The Dark Artifices triology by Cassandra Clare

This is easily my favourite trilogy and while the third book has yet to come out (December though!), I know I will love it just as much as I have the other two. These books are just filled with rich and amazing characters and plot, twisting and turning without leaving you behind and always making you want more. I haven’t given these books a re-read in a while but I really want to before the third and final installment comes out in a few months! They are really big so they might take me a bit to get through but I am determined.

Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne

I have never been a huge reader of the classics but I really want to put in the effort and try. That is the reason I want (and kind of need) to read this book this year because I have been thinking of studying English in college and if I liked classics it would be a much more enjoyable experience. I have heard the synopsis of this story many times and love it, so I feel like if I stick to it I will love the actual book itself just as much!

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Another classic but I actually did try to read this one before. I believe I got around 50 pages into it but then put it down because not a lot was happening. In the book’s defense, it isn’t a YA fantasy book or anything like that, or even anything similar to a YA contemporary. I think I went in with that head space even though I knew it wouldn’t be anything like that because that is just what I am used to reading. If I go into it with fresh eyes and an open mind though, I think I could enjoy it just like a lot of others seem to!

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Great Gatsby is a super short book and I have only heard great things…plus, it comes with the movie adaptation starring Leonardo Di Caprio so it is a must read I think. I have taken this book out before but never got around to reading it as one does when they take out too many books from the library. However, because of its incredibly short length I don’t really have an excuse during this year for not reading it. Even if I am busy, I should be able to fit it in and get it read before my senior year is over.

Those are some of the major books I want and NEED to get to before college next year and I hope you enjoyed! If you have read any of these books let me know what you thought about them, and also give me some more recommendations! 1. This looks like a lovely list, I’ve never read Cassandra Clare and would like to try some of her books as I haven’t read fantasy for a long time.

I hope you do enjoy Pride & Prejudice. It does take a while to get used to the style, but I loved the book and found it very entertaining with wonderful characters! Good luck with your reading list and with college 😊

  2. Great books you have in your list. I have read mortal instruments of Cassandra Clare and now i am headed to Infernal devices series also by her! πŸ˜› Have you read any of Jennifer Armentrout’s? You definitely should read Lux series, I am totally into it. She is an incredible writer.
About Jane Austen! I did the same thing. I couldn’t read more than 80 pages as my mind has YA stamped on it LOL
