After doing that book tag last week, I was really in the mood to do another tag but this time writing themed! I have seen this tag floating around YouTube and really enjoyed hearing everyone’s answers to these questions about the writer life, and really wanted to answer them myself so that is what I am going to do. Make sure you check out the original tag here, but here are my answers!
Writer Tag Questions
1. What do you eat or drink while writing?
I don’t always drink or eat while writing, but when I do I will either have water or green tea next to me. I don’t like to eat while writing because my fingers get all sticky or crummy which then gets on my fingers which THEN gets on my keyboard and I’m not about that. I do get thirsty though, so I’ll usually have some green tea or water with me.
2. What do you listen to while writing?
When it comes to music, if I am having a hard time getting in the writing zone I will put on some atmospheric music to get me there. Usually it will be something I found on Spotify labeled “Fantasy Music” or “Mystical Music” since my WIP is a YA fantasy. I need to do this more often though because I have been having trouble writing and need to get into the right mindset quickly.
3. What is your biggest writing distraction?
My phone. I tell myself that I don’t get distracted by my phone and that I deserve the “break” to go on it whenever I do, but I always end up taking WAY too long of a break. I need to keep off the phone when it is writing time and not have it near me.
4. What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to you while writing?
Honestly, just feeling like whatever I am writing sucks. It is crushing to fall out of the writing mode and realize that what you wrote probably isn’t the best thing ever. That’s okay though and I have to remind myself to just keep going, keep writing, keep producing because it WILL get better. Eventually. After lots and lots of editing.
5. What’s the best thing that ever happened to you while writing?
Probably the opposite of the worst and really enjoying what I just wrote. Like how it is crushing, it is super uplifting to genuinely enjoy your story and I think it is important for all of us to appreciate those moments where we like our writing. The road of writing is bumpy and windy and unpredictable so take advantage of those good moments!
6. Who do you communicate with or not communicate with while writing?
I try not to talk to people while writing but when I am done I talk to my mom a lot about my writing. I like to talk to her about how I am feeling about my writing and what I want to do with it when I am done. It gets me really excited and motivated to write, and I am really lucky to have someone to talk about my writing with.
7. What is your secret to success and your biggest writing flaw?
My secret to success is to just keep writing. Finish whatever WIP you are working on and then move right onto the next. Writing one book and hoping for it to do well won’t bring you success in the writing field but if you keep writing, then if that first book doesn’t do well, you will have another one and another one ready to go. My biggest writing flaw would definitely be acting like I don’t get down when writing when I do. I lock it all up inside and don’t let it out until it all comes crashing out. I have gotten better about it though but am still working on it.
8. What inspires you? Or what makes you productive?
Watching AuthorTube writing vlogs on YouTube really, really inspire me to write and be productive because after watching a tenish minute video of someone else being productive and writing, I get the feeling that I need to write too. I definitely recommend checking out authors on YouTube like Kristen Martin, Kim Chance, Viven Reis, etc because they are amazing!
9. What is one thing you do or other writers do that’s annoying?
Hmm. Maybe closing ourselves off from the world (I do it too though so no shade at anyone!) and honestly, I don’t want to make it a habit! I don’t want to waste my entire life writing even though it is something I LOVE to do and is definitely my passion, but I want to also see the world around me and sometimes I have to remind myself this.
10. Are you willing to share something you’ve written?
I will in the future once I have something semi polished so stay tuned for that! I know I don’t share a lot of my writing on my blog but I do want to start doing that. I am not ashamed or embarrassed to show my writing at all, I just always forget to if we are being honest!
Anyways, those are my answers to this amazing tag and I hope you enjoyed! If you want to do this tag then I tag you, and let me know in the comments if you have done this tag so I can see your answers. Don’t forget to check out my last blog post as well as my social media accounts below 🙂
