Sorry I have been off the past week, I was super busy and found no time to even write a single blog post. Sadly, it is only getting busier but I am still going to try and post 6/7 days a week! Anyways, NaNoWriMo is next week, ahhh!!! I am honestly so excited and cannot wait to get started. For today’s NaNoWriMo prep, I will be sharing some tips and tricks on “first chapters” because those are extremely important.
When it comes to writing your first chapters, keep these things in mind:
-Start as far as you can into the action
-Have a great, intriguing opening line but also follow through with a great second line and so on
-Avoid clichés
-Make each chapter have a beginning, middle and end like a story
-End chapters on cliffhangers. You want your reader wanting to read more
When it comes to world building in your first chapters, you don’t want to go overboard but you do want to paint a pretty clear picture for your readers. Here are some tips to remember:
-Show what your character is seeing
-Again, make sure it has a role
-Avoid to much backstory or a simple list description
-Don’t try and explain to much in one chapter. You have plenty of time to show readers your world.
Those are a few tips on how to get through a first draft and I will most likely be posting one more writing prep so keep your eyes open!
