Being a better writer is what we writers all strive for. No matter how good we are we know that we can better. Here are a few tips and ideas on how to make yourself a better writer! Hope they help 🙂
Writing Events/Conferences – I haven’t ever been to a writing event or conference but I am this fall so I am very excited! These are a great place to get feedback on your work and it will really improve how you approach your writing the next time you open your laptop or notebook. You will also most likely listen to other authors give advice and go to workshops which will definitely help you out!
Writing Books – I have read so many different writing books and I have learned a whole lot from them. Everything that applies to my writing in them I write down in a notebook so I have the information handy. This can be free because you can go to your library and pick them up. While I recommend you to pick up writing books in your genre, also try picking out ones that aren’t in your style or genre because it still teaches you things that may be key in your writing.
YouTube – You can find some many different videos on YouTube for basically anything so why not writing? A lot of authors actually have YouTube accounts and give out tips and advice which I think is really awesome! You can also find author talks as well which may have some information your looking for.
NaNoWriMo – NaNoWriMo may be the most AMAZING thing ever for writers. If you didn’t know, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and basically in the month of November every year, you have exactly from November 1st to the 30th to write 50,000 words. Along the way, you can find pep talks on there website from authors and also there are prizes if you can complete the 50,000 words! This really motivates you to pump out those words and I just think it is the best thing ever.
Podcasts – I have recently been obsessed with writing podcasts and I think they are a great way to learn how to be a better writer and get an inside of the publishing side of being a writer! Another great thing about podcasts is that you can download it and then listen to it anywhere. Two writing podcasts I recommend are Writing Excuses and 88 Cups of Tea with Yin Chang.
And those are all the tips I have on becoming a better writer! Well they aren’t exactly tips but tips on how to find the information to be a better writer. I can say I have improved so much within this year after discovering all these different ways of learning new things about writing and publishing! I hope you liked this blog post and don’t forget to check out my last one: New September TBR!
