Today is the last day of the BookTube-A-Thon and I am very happy to say I completed all of the books I planned on reading! BookTube-A-Thon was very fun and exciting and I really enjoyed participating in it this year and will without a doubt be participating next year! I won’t be going into full detail about what these books are about but if you are interested then check out my BookTube-A-Thon TBR 2016 post.
Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson – This was the first book I completed for challenge #1: Read a book with yellow on the cover. I really enjoy all of Morgan Matson’s books so it was fun reading this one! I am glad I chose to read this book first because it was a really easy read that set me in the mood for more reading! 4/5 stars.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling – It was so good diving back into the Harry Potter world! I flew through this book like always and loved every single second of it. I used this book for 3 challenges and they were challenge #2: Read a book after sunset, challenge #5: Read a book that is older than you, and challenge #6: Read and watch a book-to-movie adaptation. I also really loved reading the book and than rewatching the movie so that just made completing this book so much more fun! 5/5 stars.
Champion by Marie Lu – I read this book for challenge #3: Read a book you discovered through BookTube because I first heard about the Legend trilogy over BookTube. I really liked this book, but it was a bit slower than the first 2 books in the trilogy. I still flew through and overall I really enjoyed the series! 4/5 stars.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan – I completed this book for challenge #4: Read a book by one of your favourite authors. I absolutely loved re reading this book! It was easy and so much fun and it didn’t even feel like I’ve read it a couple million times… Anyways, of course I loved this book and I am so happy I decided to read it again! 4.5/stars.
Those are all the books I read during the BookTube-A-Thon! I would have chosen and read more but I went camping for the last 3 days so I decided to just read 4 books. Hope you liked it!
Ahh Camp NaNoWriMo is almost over and I am starting to loose motivation so I decided to make another one of these writing tip posts in case any of you are doubting your work!
Writing Tip #1 – Running out of ideas for a story? Look at a picture and write about it. A picture tells a thousand words so you should easily be able to get your ideas flowing by doing this.
Writing Tip #2 – To improve your vocabulary which is very important for a writer, subscribe to online vocab building websites because you will be able to do activities that teach you knew words that you may be able to use in your story!
Writing Tip #3 – Doubting yourself? Give yourself a writing goal to achieve every week and if you complete it reward yourself. Example: Say your goal by the end of the week is 10,000 words and if you complete it then treat yourself to a chocolate bar, or an 10 minute longer break during writing. Whatever you want.
Writing Prompt of the Day – It was like nothing happened. He didn’t remember a thing and I was off the hook, or so I thought…(From WritingPrompt.com)
Writing Quote of the Day – “Be courageous and try to write in a way that scares you a little.” – Holly Gerth
Hope you guys liked this post and I hoped it help! If you have any writing questions don’t hesitate to ask!
Since it is BookTube-A-Thon I decided it would be a good time to do a reading update! I am currently on page 276/369 in Champion by Marie Lu and while it is a bit slower than her first two books in this series I am still really enjoying it! Last night I finished Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling and it was so good being back in the Harry Potter world! Today I am planning on finishing up Champion and then starting my fourth and final book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The reason I am only planning on reading 4 books is because I will be camping from Friday-Sunday so I won’t have really any time to complete anymore books…oh well I am happy with what I have done so far and it has been fun!
Anyways I hope you enjoyed this little reading update and if you are participating in the BookTube-A-Thon then keep reading! 🙂
It’s a bit halfway over the year so I decided to go over my top 5 favourite TV shows! All these shows are ones I started or continued this year and are ones that I loved the most. Don’t forget to check out my last post as well which is Camp NaNoWriMo Writing Tips #3
5. The Bachelorette – This is my guilty pleasure and honestly I could watch this show for days on end. It’s just so dramatic and funny and it makes my day watching this show. Cannot wait to see who wins this season because I have no idea!
4. Castle – Castle is a murder mystery show that I have adored for several years and I was so sad when they announced season 8 was going to be there last season (which is the season that aired this year) I just love all of the episodes and the cast is amazing and hilarious and I will forever love this show.
3. Gilmore Girls – I only started watching this show this year and I fell in love with it with the first episode! Right now I am on season 6 and its a bit slow but I am hoping to get back to it before the new episodes come back which I am so pumped for! If you haven’t watching Gilmore Girls…do it!!!
2. The Vampire Diaries – I am currently obsessed with show…again. I watched it a few years ago but got bored around season 2 but I gave it a second try this year and BAM! I am sucked into the world of the Vampire Diaries and I cannot seem to get out.
Annnnnd 1. The 100 – I loooove this show, and I need season 4 ASAP. How season 3 ended…well lets just say that was NOT nice of the creators. This show is just so action packed and keeps you on your toes with every episode. Go watch it right now if you haven’t and while the first few episodes are a bit slow, you will not regret it!
Those are my top 5 favourite TV shows at the moment during 2016 in order, and I really hope if you guys haven’t checked any of these out please do! Don’t forget to comment your favourite TV shows!
I really like doing these blog posts so here are some more tips, prompts and inspirational quotes for all you writers! Whether you are participating in Camp NaNoWriMo or not, I hope this will help you with your writing journey. 🙂
Writing Tip #1 – Have any of you ever been working on a writing project and then suddenly get another idea? Well here is a tip on what you should do when that happens. If you suddenly get an idea while you are writing, don’t abandon your writing project! Write down the idea in a notebook, and let it sit. Finish the project you are working on and then if you can’t stop thinking about that other idea start it! If you end up forgetting about the idea then it might not be as important as you thought it was.
Writing Tip #2 – Sometimes you just don’t want to write. I get this all the time, but don’t let that stop you from writing because to be a writer you actually need to write. Don’t let yourself stop writing just because you feel blocked. When you come to this, just free write for like ten minutes! Get your brain moving, and write about whatever you want. Write about why you don’t want to write, what else you could be doing, really anything that just keeps you writing.
Writing Prompt of the Day – You fall in love with a sorcerer who changes you into anything they want, until you… (Prompt found on WritingPrompt.com)
Writing Quote of the Day – “Hard writing makes easy reading. Easy writing makes hard reading.” – William Zinsser
Today is the first day of the BookTube-A-Thon, and while I don’t have a YouTube channel I am still going to try and complete the reading challenges. I will also be participating in the Instagram challenges and Twitter sprints so I am very excited for those as well! So yeah, here are the books I will be reading this week!
Challenge #1 – Read a book with yellow on the cover – For this challenge I will be reading Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson because I want to read another Morgan Matson book and this one had yellow on the cover so it worked out. This book is about a girl named Amy who’s father recently died so her and her family move from California to Connecticut to have a fresh start. To get there though, she has to go on a four day road trip with an old family friend named Roger who has a past of his own. So far I am really liking this book and I can’t wait to finish it!
Challenge #2 – Read a book after sunset – I will be reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling for this challenge and I am SO excited to be re reading this book. I just love the feeling when I read Harry Potter so I am glad I have an excuse to pick it up again.
Challenge #3 – Read a book you discovered through BookTube – For this one, I will be reading Champion by Marie Lu because I did hear about the Legend trilogy through BookTube and since I need to read the last book I decided to add it in here! If you didn’t know, the Legend series takes place in a futuristic version of the USA called the Republic, and the story follows a boy named Day who is a convicted criminal and a girl named June who is beloved by the Republic. When June’s brother is killed one day, all signs point to Day so she goes on a mission to hunt him down. When she does find him, she realizes he may not be the criminal everyone says he is, and he shows her the Republic isn’t as trustworthy and great as she thought it was.
Challenge #4 – Read a book by a favourite author of yours – I will be reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan for this challenge, because he is definitely one of my favourite authors. The Percy Jackson series was one of the first series I read so I have a sentimental love for it. That and his books are so much fun to read. Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is about a boy named Percy who discovers that he is a demigod which means he is half human half Greek God. Because of this, he is escorted to a “safe haven” for demigods called Camp Half Blood but immediately finds out he is being convicted of stealing Zeus’s Master Bolt. So he and 2 other friends go on a quest to find out who actually stole it and clear Percy’s name.
Challenge #5 – Read a book that is older than you – Since you can combine challenges I will be combining this challenge with number 3 and 6 so I will be reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone since it is older than me.
Challenge #6 – Read and watch a book-to-movie adaptation – Surprise! I will also being reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for this challenge.
Hope you enjoyed this TBR for this week, and I really hope I can get through them all!
I cannot wait for the rest of 2016 to come because there are amazing authors coming out with amazing sequels to their previous books. This is my list of the 5 I am most anticipating in 2016 and 2017! (Not in Order) Don’t forget to comment your most anticipated sequels and check out my last post: Camp NaNoWriMo Writing Tips #2!
A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir – I am SO excited for this book because An Ember in the Ashes was such a fantastic book! When I finished it I needed the sequel but sadly it’s not even out yet but it will be on August 30th of 2016! If you haven’t read An Ember in the Ashes I highly recommend it because it will blow your mind.
The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan – I love all of Rick Riordan’s books, and while the first book in this series, The Sword of Summer wasn’t my favourite, I still really liked it and cannot wait for the sequel! Also I will be meeting Rick Riordan on his fall tour of this book and I am SO excited!!!
Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas – This is the 5th book in the Throne of Glass series which is definitely one of my favourite series. Sarah J Maas is such an amazing writer and her stories are always so detailed and beautiful! I haven’t read the 4th book, Queen of Shadows, yet but I am planning on reading it once Empire of Storms comes out as well which will be on September 8 of 2016!
Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare – This is the second book in the Dark Artifices series which I absolutely LOVE!!! Cassandra Clare has been my favourite author ever since I read her Mortal Instruments series 3 years ago. When I read Lady Midnight, the first book in her new trilogy, I thought I couldn’t have been more blown away because it was phenomenal! Please read all her books if you haven’t because they are soooo worth it. This book is coming out sometime in April of 2017!
King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard – I really did enjoy her first book, Red Queen, and I am excited to finally get the 3rd book too! Despite the fact I haven’t read the second book…but I will, I promise! The story is just really fun and easy to read and if you haven’t read any of the two already out definitely check them out! This book will be out in stores on February 7th 2017!
Those are some sequels I am most excited for that are coming out in the next year! Hope you enjoyed it 🙂
Wow, Camp NaNoWriMo is almost halfway over! Whether or not you are halfway done, or barley have any words down this post is made to help you! Here are some tips, prompts, and inspiration writing quotes to get you away from writers block, or wanting to procrastinate.
Tip#1 – If you don’t want to write, or have writers block than just free write. Get out a notebook or open up whatever document you use and just write. Write about why you don’t want to write or what better things you could be doing. If you free write like this for around ten minutes then it will help you push yourself to actually write your story.
Tip#2 – Another way to get over procrastination or writers block is too give yourself a One-Day-Writing-Workshop. Basically all you need to do is set a start time in the morning, so like ten, and a finish time, maybe around four or five, and then you just write. It doesn’t have to be involved with your story, although it would be better if it was, but just write what you feel like. It will open up your brain to writing.
Prompt of the Day – You wake up one day and discover that you are your four year old self. What do you do?
Writing Quote of the Day – You might not write well everyday, but you can always edit a bad page. You can’t edit a blank page. -Jodi Picoult
Hope this helped in some ways! If you need some more inspiration then check out the Writer’s Digest or Market!
