Reading Update

Hey guys so I decided to update you on my reading progress because since I posted my May Wrap Up I have finished 2 more books…so that means I read 7 this month. Reading 7 books in 1 month is pretty crazy for me because I am usually not the fastest reader but I just read so many amazing books that I would fly though one, pick up another and fly through that one as well. The 2 other books I finished in the last few days were:

Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky which was a fantastic read and I am so happy I decided to pick it up when I saw it at my library. Yes it was depressing but it was also somewhat funny and incredibly entertaining. I read this in 2 days because it was only 200ish pages and I couldn’t put it down. 5/5 stars, please read this!

Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead which is the third book in her Vampire Academy series. I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first 2 and I just found myself always wanting to read it. So much happened that made me squeal and gasp and laugh and it was such an amazing read. 4.8/5 stars!

Now I am currently reading Blood Promise by Richelle Mead which is the fourth book in her series and also The Crown by Kiera Cass which is the fifth and final book in her Selection series.

That was my short reading update and I hope you liked it 🙂

Top 5 Favourite OTP’s

This was a very tough decision but I managed to narrow down all my favourite OTP’s to my top 5…which was difficult. If you didn’t know, OTP means One True Pairing and it is a pair of two people who you think are magic together basically. Here are my top 5 OTP’s!

Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase from the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series are one of my first and favourite OTP’s. They challenge each other in different ways and are amazing together so yeah, I’m going to obviously ship them.

Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn from the Lady Midnight Trilogy are another personal favourite of mine just because it has the whole forbidden love vibe and that just makes it much more interesting. Aside from that fact, they just deserve to be happy with each other and they compliment the other in so many ways. Ugh, it needs to happen.

Lola Nolan and Cricket Bell from Lola and the Boy Next Door. Ugh Cricket is so adorable and sweet to Lola and they are just a fantastic couple that you cannot help but love.

Juliette and Warner from the Shatter Me trilogy, like seriously you guys I hard-core ship these two. I love Warner sooo much and him with Juliette is such perfection. He is so misunderstood and shows no emotion but he when he does my heart literally melts.

Clary Fairchild and Jace Herondale from The Mortal Instruments because they were my second OTP and I really love them together. Clary doesn’t always make smart decisions and neither does Jace…but they would do anything for each other which is very romantic…even when they are about to get killed.

Those were my top 5 OTP’s and I hope you enjoyed 🙂 Don’t forget to comment below your favourite OTP’s!

How To: Get Books for Cheaper

You guys really liked my How To: Write a Novel post so I decided to write another How To post! This one is all about where too get books for cheaper because that is always a struggle for me. I hope you all like it!

Websites – bookoutlet.ca/com is a great website where you can get books for really, really cheap and they have a great variety of books. I don’t use this website much just because I prefer to buy my books in store but if you like online shopping then definitely check this website out!

Used Book Stores – Used book store are a great way to get cheap books. I have this amazing used book store where I live and the books are in good condition and are half the original price if it was brand new! I know that a lot of used book stores have crappy books or ones that are in crappy condition but if you go searching you will find a good one!

eBooks – I like eBooks for travelling because it makes things so much easier and luckily eBooks are usually cheaper and you can usually find good deals. I do prefer physical copies of books but for travelling eBooks are perfect!

Publishing Companies – By publishing companies I don’t mean them sending you a book. What I mean is that if you sign up for them to email you on deals and new releases, at some point you will be able to claim a free eBook or get some fantastic deals. I go a free copy of Delerium by Lauren Oliver one time! Some examples are Simon and Schuster, Penguin Random House, etc.

Those are some ideas! Comment ways you get cheap books below.

P.S. this post was in no way sponsored these are just some ways I get cheap books.

June TBR!

I cannot wait for June because it means the end of school and more reading time! I don’t have that hard of exams this year so I am still hoping to read a good amount of books by the end of this month. My reading challenge is to at least read 50 books this year and by the end of June I should have read 25 and I am 22 so I think I can make it! Anyways here is my June TBR!

Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead is the first book I am hoping to finish in June because it is my current read. I am about halfway done and I am really, really liking it. The first 2 books in this series were a tiny bit slow for me but the story is really picking up the pace in the third one and I am very happy about that! If you want a more detailed summary of this series you can check out my last post: Series to Binge Read, because I talk about it in there.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas is a book I really want to finish this month because it has been on my shelf forever. I am not the biggest high fantasy lover but I do love Sarah J Maas’s Throne of Glass series so I am hoping to love this equally as much!

Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen is another book I have had forever and since it is a contemporary novel it will throw me into a more summery mood hopefully. This book has good reviews on goodreads too so that motivates me to finally pick it up!

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is the last book I want to get to by the end of June. I recently bought this book because I have only heard fantastic things so I really want to jump on the bandwagon and love this book as much as every other person on this planet.

Series to Binge Read

We all love those series that you can just sit down, read, finish the book, and then continue on with the series without getting up…well obviously you get up at some point but you don’t want to. For this post, I will be telling you guys some series that you will start and not want to stop.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – I am currently reading this series and I am loving it! I am on the third book and I never want to put them down. It is about two girls, Rose Hathaway who is a dhampir (protects vampires) and Lisa Dragomir who is a royal Moroi (vampire) and their life at St. Vladamir’s. The books follow them as they face enemies while trying to maintain a decent image. This is a good series to binge read because there are six books in total, Vampire Academy, Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise, Spirit Bound and Last Sacrifice. Go! Read them!

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan – This series is such a fun and easy series to binge read so if you haven’t read these please go now and read them! These books are about a boy named Percy Jackson who discovers he is the son of a Greek god and how he has to learn to live with that because that isn’t a small feat. There are five books in the series and I love all of them. The Lightning Thief, Sea of Monsters, Titan’s Curse, Battle of the Labyrinth and Last Olympian. A totally easy binge read!

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass – There are now 5 books in this series (The Selection, The Elite, The One, The Heir, The Crown) and they are just so easy to read. I read the first 3 books in one sitting because I was absolutely hooked. I really recommend this as a binge reading series.

Lux Series by Jennifer L Armentrout – Again, there are five books in this series (Obsidian, Onyx, Opal, Origin and Opposition) and they are really interesting! My favourite is probably the first book but all the books are very good. Please read this series if you haven’t yet!

May Wrap Up

May is already almost over and for me it was a pretty decent reading month. I read a totally of 5 books and each of them were a very enjoyable read! Comment below the books you read this month because I would love to know 🙂

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi is the second book in the Shatter Me trilogy so I will not go into to much detail because of spoilers. Basically, this trilogy is about a girl named Juliette who possesses the power to kill anyone by her touch, and after being locked up for a few years she is released to become a weapon. I really liked this book and the whole series is just fantastic so I definitely recommend it! 5/5 stars

The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan is the second book I finished this month and it is the first book in Rick Riordan’s new series based around Apollo. This book is about the god Apollo who is cast down to Earth after angering his father…the twist is he is mortal. Now, with no godly abilities, Apollo is forced to face enemies he has made and learn to adapt with his new body. I found this book very funny and easy to read like Rick Riordan’s books, and while it wasn’t amazing or anything I am still excited to continue on with the series! 4/5 stars

Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi is the last book in the Shatter Me trilogy and can I just say this book was as amazing as the others. I described the main idea of this trilogy already so I will just give a brief opinion. I thought this book was a great conclusion and I loved how things ended up. I wished their was more and more but all good things must come to an end. Please read this series if you haven’t because of all the epic feels and Warner…ah Warner. 5/5 stars

Frostbite by Richelle Mead is the second book in the Vampire Academy which I am currently getting through and I am so excited to be continuing on with this series! It is so easy and fun to read that I find myself finishing them quickly. They are about these two girls, Rose who is a dhampir (protects vampires) and Lisa who is a vampire, who attend St. Vladamir’s which is a school for vampires. The books follow their journey at school and as they face their enemies. I totally recommend this series! 4/5 stars

The Heir by Kiera Cass is the fourth book in the Selection series but also the first book that follows Eadyln’s point of view. This was a reread since the Crown came out recently and I am glad I reread it because I definitely enjoyed it more this time. I still found Eadlyn stuck up and annoying but for some reason I liked the book better. 4/5 stars

Book Haul!!! (May 2016)

I just recently was on a short “vacation” because I had a few extra days off school and obviously over those few days I accumulated some books. Luckily not an over alarming amount but just three books which I think is a pretty good amount. Please comment any books you recently got or are going to get soon! Oh and it would mean a lot of you checked out my last post How To: Write a Novel and comment if you want more blog posts like that!

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is the first book in her newest series. I have seen this everywhere on YouTube and it has gotten so many amazing reviews that I was dying to buy it for myself and now I have and I am so excited to read it! I am not really sure what it is about but I know I will love it.

Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead which is the third book in the Vampire Academy series. I recently finished the second one so I got the third one to continue on because I am really enjoying the series! I like how easy it is to read and I am excited to see what happens next.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi is the final book I purchased and is the first book in the Shatter Me trilogy which is absolutely amazing. I also recently read all three of these books but I borrowed them from the library so I finally got myself a copy of the first book and I am so excited to have it. Hopefully soon I will be getting the rest of the trilogy…once I get some money again.

Thanks for reading my book haul, I hope you liked it!

How To: Write A Novel

I decided to start a new category on my blog that consists of different “How To’s” because I really enjoy reading these kind of posts and I hope you guys like it too! Comment below what you think and if you want to see more like this. Also, check out my poll I created and answer it, thanks! 🙂

How to Write a Novel

Step One: Brainstorming

Create an idea that can be expanded into a novel. To do this, brainstorm different ideas and play around with them. It may take a while to decide on one but make sure it is one that you will enjoy writing about. Some different methods of brainstorming are the web, lists and point form. I personally plan out in lists because I find that I am more organized but whatever method works best for you, that is the one you should choose.

Step Two: Beginning, Middle, and End

Once you have your main idea created, start writing out a loose plan of your beginning, middle and end and some important scenes that happen in between. They do not have to be insanely detailed but just detailed enough so that you fully understand what is going on, making it easier to write it out.

Step Three: Characters

The next step to writing your novel is the characters because the characters are an extremely important aspect to your novel. If you like to draw, you can sketch out a picture of what your characters look like, along with a short description about them. A lot of authors create characters that resemble some aspects of somebody they know or met or even of themselves. I do this as well because it helps me feel more connected to my characters which is important when creating a good novel.

Step Four: Test Run

By now you should have your main idea, your plot, setting, characters and major events all mapped out. Now, I encourage you to give all your creative ideas a test run and write the first chapter of your story. Don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t sound amazing. This is your first time putting all the pieces of your story together so it will not be perfect. The idea behind this step is to see if there is anything you want to fix or change.

Step Five: First Draft

By now, you would have completed a test run of your story (a chapter or a few pages) and if you didn’t need to change or fix anything  or already did and are now fully satisfied with their idea it is time to write a first draft! Unlike the test run, this is a draft of your entire story! Novels are about 100-150,000 words so that gives you an idea of what number to get to at least. It will not be perfect but your main focus is to get your words written down. Don’t worry about editing otherwise that will slow you down, wait until the end.

Step Six: Editing

After completing your novel it is time to edit! Now editing can be somewhat enjoyable until a certain point but don’t loose interest! Keep pushing through and complete editing your entire novel because it will be worth it in the end. If you are not the greatest at editing, first try it on your own and then once you finished get someone else like a parent, teacher or friend to edit it and catch the mistakes you missed.

TV Show Recommendations

I have been watching a lot of Netflix lately so I decided to give you guys some TV show recommendations that you have to watch. Most of these are pretty popular so there is a good chance you have heard of them already but I am here to motivate you to watch them!!!

The 100 is a fantastic TV show that takes place 100 years after the Earth became radiating by mankind and now, people are living in space. In the show, you follow 100 prisoners as they are sent to the ground to see if it is survivable and a whole bunch of crap goes down and it is amazing. Season 3 is ending this week I believe so you will be able to binge watch it for quite a while! The first few episodes are bit slow for some people but the TV series just gets so much better with every season.

Gilmore Girls is such an amazing TV show  from the early 2000’s about a mother and a daughter and their lives. To some it may sound boring but they are such hilarious characters and the show is extremely addicting. I am currently watching this and I am almost on season 5 and I cannot stop watching it. Another reason to watch this show is because the revival is coming out this fall!

The Mindy Project is so hilarious and entertaining that I think my life would have boring without it. The Mindy Project is about a girl named Mindy (obviously) that thinks life is like a movie and she is always looking for “the one”. This TV show makes my day and I am waiting for season 5 to come on Netflix so I can continue on.

How to Get Away With Murder is so addicting and cool! I won’t give away the plot to much but I think the title says a lot…this TV show is just so messed up (in a good way) and so are the characters that it is just so interesting to watch and you need to find out what happens next! Netflix needs to hurry up and add season 2 so I can be happy again.

Castle is a murder/mystery TV show that is probably one of my all time favourite series. It follows Richard Castle, a mystery writer who joins the NYPD to get info for his book but soon ends up becoming their partner. The humor is amazing in this show and all the episodes are so entertaining to watch. The show is almost done their eight season but sadly they will not be continuing with a ninth which makes me so, so sad but you still got to watch this TV show.

June TBR

I am super pumped about June because there are a bunch of books I want to get to!!! All of these books are books I have not read and have just been sitting on my shelf for like ever and I am finally picking them up to start my summer!

New Moon by Stephanie Meyer is the first book on my June TBR. I am not a major fan of Twilight but for me the books are readable and I am slowly making my way through the series. I read Twilight about a year ago and I enjoyed it enough to want to continue so we will see how it goes!

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas is another book I have had forever and am finally getting to it. High fantasy books tend to intimidate me just because they are hard to get through but once I get through them I cannot stop, like Throne of Glass. I have heard amazing things about this book and the second book came out recently so I need to catch up!

Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen is a book I received for my birthday last year and the reason I haven’t picked this book up is because I thought it was some depressing contemporary and it might be but I look up some reviews and they were really good so that motivated me to finally add to my TBR!

Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead is the last book on my TBR. I am currently reading Frostbite and I am really enjoying it so I am excited to be continuing on with the series!
